So I Started Playing Omega Ruby Today

Toa Smoke Monster

I've had the game for a few months now, but I was still playing through Pokemon Y again when I bought it. And I didn't want to be playing through the two games at the same time. So I finally finished Y a week or so ago and now have started Pokemon Omega Ruby. And can I just say that I've enjoyed it a lot so far.

The game looks beautiful. It really uses the Pokemon X and Y design to make Hoenn look amazing. Just seeing the title screen of the game alone gets me pumped up to continue my adventure. The music is also really good. The original Ruby and Sapphire games had some great music to begin with, and hearing it in this game just brings back many childhood memories.

I also feel like the game improves on some of the things from X and Y. The Pokedex in X and Y was a little too complicated IMO, and I only really used it for tracking down the Legendary Bird when it showed up in the games. The Pokedex here, however, feels simpler to use, and I think that great because it makes it more useful to me. I also really love how it looks. It's simplistic design is just look great to me. :)

The new APP device for finding Pokemon is really neat. I've used it to find some interesting Pokemon, including one I wanted to use on my team, a Taillow. Of course, the one I found was at level 15, knocked out my starter in one hit, and the only reason I caught was because I threw a Pokeball at it at near full health and somehow it didn't break free. Now it's mine, and I haven't even challenged the first gym yet! (I just got to Rustboro as of this post.) I kind of feel overpowered at the moment. :P

Overall, I'm really glad to finally be playing this game. I knew I was going to enjoy playing it, but I didn't expect to feel the excitement I feel as I play it. I can't wait to continue exploring this region again. :)

Yesss, another ORAS player. I actually just got the game for Christmas and managed to beat the League Champ like five days later. We could exchange friend codes, and then when your team gets more powerful, we could try a battle maybe? :D

I would like that, though it might be a while before I get to the League. I don't get a chance to play my games everyday, plus I want to explore and enjoy the Omega Ruby and see what has been changed in it from the original.

But once I do beat the League, I'll take you on. :)

Sounds good! :D Do be warned though, my teams usually don't have much of a plan beyond being as powerful as possible. I'm not the toughest of opponents. :P

The PokéNav (especially the DexNav function) is really amazingly great. After so many Pokémon games, I'd almost grown tired of wild battles due to the Pokémon all being so similar (pretty much all wild Pokémon of a certain type in a certain area differed only by level), and at the same time, the metagame almost made catching wild Pokémon laughable (since the only reliable way to get Pokémon with good stats was generally by breeding them). The DexNav changed all that—suddenly it was exciting to catch Pokémon again, and it even rewarded you for going back to look for more of Pokémon you'd already caught! And I could continue to catch Pokémon the way I liked (in the wild), rather than having to become a mad geneticist just to get Pokémon with decent stats.

I really hope the advances made in ORAS are implemented somehow in future games, because they made catching Pokémon fun again.
