What if everyone has Asperger's Syndrome?

:kaukau: I had a dream last night that everyone in the world had Asperger's Syndrome. I was sitting down at a table with several of the popular kids back in high school, and the difference was striking. Overall, though, it was almost impossible to imagine this world. I dunno. Hey, I'm not the only person with Asperger's Syndrome on this site. Has anyone else ever wondered about such a hypothetical world?

Not this exact hypothesis, no, but I have been developing a story that imagines a world where people on the spectrum manifest their uniqueness in reality-bending superpowers - making them the most powerful individuals in the known universe.

I never really thought about this, but to be honest the idea doesn't really appeal to me. Even though it might make it easier for me to understand and being understood by others, I'm a strong believer in the concept of "neurodiversity". That means acknowledging every neurological condition comes with strengths and weaknesses. I think real acceptance would come not just from everybody having similar strengths and weaknesses, but from people learning to accept each other's differences instead of judging those who diverge from some neurological standard.

I think it's been imagined pretty thoroughly before - it's basically the main premise of a few of the Asperger's message boards I've seen online over the years. Most of this doesn't appear to exist in the format I remember anymore, but you could look up "Wrong Planet" and "Aspergia" for more on the idea.

The idea never held much appeal for me, and I've always felt a little weird about getting too involved with strictly Asperger's discussions - I'm at a similar spot on the autism spectrum but don't quite meet the criteria for Asperger's.

I never thought about it. Huh.  While i would then be better understood and probably have a much better childhood, I am hesitant to want to have that become a reality, because I honestly like being different from most people despite my constant frustration or confusion or misunderstanding with humanity. Selfish i know, but true. I would love to see such a world though, just to sate my curiosity.
