I've heard that it was better than the original in that it was pretty true to the comic, but the original has Sylvester Stallone and that 90's factor.  I'd have to read a few comics and then (obviously) watch the movies before coming to my own conclusions.  And by the way, I forgot that Dredd was that recent.  I could almost swear it's been out for a decade.
