Sketching For Perfect Art?

Clark Kent

Well, I ahev another question about drawing:

First off, I never sketch first and then outline back in pen as you can see Heir of the Chronicler's art here.

You can see where he sketched out how Gali's hand would be.

So I'm wondering, do you sketch first then draw cause I always draw the final piece, I rarley sketch it out first so yeah.

I usually sketch like crazy, complete with stick-figure skeletons, lines across the face, and measuring lines. For me, it makes my drawings less likely to be off-balance or out of proportion. When I'm content with it, I clean up some of the confusing lines, ink it, erase the pencil, and then color.

I always sketch first – usually a very rough, light outline to get the pose and proportions right, and jot in a few details, and then I go over that in harder pencil. I almost never ink stuff unless I'm going to color it with colored pencils... Leaving it in pencil gives me the opportunity to change it if I want to.

I always sketch first to lay out basic proportions and stuff, so that if I make a mistake or something comes up that I don't like or think could be done better, I can change it - Ink is mean and harsh and does not let me do that unless there is a pencil base underneath. I also cannot do the ink right on the paper and get it to look nice on the first try. :(
