Autobots, Rollout!
Transformers was awesome! Probably my #1 movie of the summer. (I want to see this again, and can't say that for Spidey 3 and Pirates 3. Although by the time I have time to see it again Harry Potter will be out and that's also on my list of things to see....)
The movie was packed with action, for one. Other than that, the Transformers feel was there, especially, well, when they transformed.
And now I have to use spoiler codes just in case I let something spill about details in the movie, and possibly talk about who dies in this one and who dies in the original 1986 movie and comparisons to the first episodes of the original show.
Spoilers Ahead!
I don't usually have favorite scenes in movies I watch, I prefer to just soak in the whole movie and enjoy it all. But for this I must say I liked the part when all the other Autobots came onto earth.
The way they can change what they look like is good too. Not exactly like in the first episode, in which a probe went out and scanned planes and cars, then the Transformers got scanned by their spaceship that crash landed on earth (and then on earth they had to find energy to get off, not a cube that can transform normal technology into Transformers). But the difference was acceptable; it made things easier for the story in general and for some non-otaku watching the movie.
The action sequences were amazing. The hand to hand combat is classic Transformers, and the details/graphics looked almost real. Seriously, on the topic of graphics, if you thought about looking for it, the Transformers looked like real metal running around wherever they were.
Back to action, I would have liked a little more laser shooting from Ironhide (I think, the guns guy)
If there were two scenes I would take out, it would be the scene where Sam's parents try to get into his room, and the part with the car dealer's grandma. On the first: I really don't like that kind of humor, it just isn't for me, and was not needed at all for the movie. Heck, they could have said something like, well, I have some ideas that are similar but more "acceptable" (but still, not acceptable at all) but I still shouldn't mention them on BZP. That scene shouldn't have come in that way (they should have changed it). Yes, there is hentai and fan service in anime, it's hard not to see some skin or a joke in anime, but Transformers has never been about that and I frown on Michael Bay (the director) for putting that scene in.
Two things I didn't like: One is the parents, I just didn't like their personality/character.
And although the music was awesome (not the songs, but the background music), I was disappointed that I never heard the original Transformers theme. Not even in the credits, which didn't get music but songs instead. (But I'll definitely get the background music soundtrack)
More spoilers! Now, on the topic of deaths: (suggested not to read if you haven't seen the movie)
In the original 1986 movie, Prime dies. He sacrifices himself and makes somebody else the leader. What a leader!
Now, in this movie, with today's society and all, you can't have the good guy leader die. So Megatron dies. Well, I like that and all, and the fighting probably wouldn't have stopped if Prime died, but that was a big change from the original.
Now, how Megatron dies is also interesting. Prime was going to place the cube in his chese to fuse with the All Spark. He said that he probably couldn't control it so he would sacrifice himself because it would destroy him as well as it.
Problem: If there was the chance that Prime could control it, then there was the chance that Megatron could too, so what Sam did was very risky. (/stupid/not thinking)
But good guys win, yay!
End Spoilers
I would recommend Transformers to anyone who has even a slight inkling to see it. (but one person I know said he would rather gouge his eyes out with a spoon. Too bad for him, especially since the phrase is "with a spork")
I definitely want to get the score soundtrack. Although I was disappointed they didn't have the original Transformers' theme in there. (I was thinking it'd come in the credits, but no, they put in a Linkin Park song instead...)
