Maya
Maya is really cool!
...
>> IT'S A PROGRAM. 3D modeling program. Despite carrying an absurd $7000 price tag, it really is quite powerful. We've just started learning it, in class, and once you figure it out...
It's amazing how they did it...
And where they come up with the names for these tools. I mean, "loft"? When you're connecting two lines with a surface, why call it "loft"? What's that supposed to mean?
It's like how they assigned new meanings to common words when they created the computer GUI. Menu? What am I, ordering at a restaurant? File? Which file cabinet is it in? Window? Oh yes, it's a beautiful day outside. Exit? Why, don't you want me in the room anymore? Enter? Don't mind if I do. Return? Sure I will, tomorrow. Backspace? Okay, I'm stepping back, is something going to blow up?
"Move" and stuff make sense, but some terms are just strange, y'know? Like "NURBS." I know it stand for something (I forget what) but wouldn't "curvy" do as well? Eh, I guess not, since there are NURBS cubes, but still.
Anyway, it's a fun program. Today I'm much better at it, and we've learned much more useful stuff that allows for much more freedom, but all I have uploaded is yesterday's creation, here:
Click here, since it's fairly large
All basic shapes of course, absurdly simple, but hey, it's better than a cube or a sphere I applied random distortions to.
Today's exercise is a "park," starting with a bench, then the trash can. I've done both, and am now making a tree, just trying it out.
