Orionids

The Orionid Meteor Shower started yesterday, and will peak with over 30 meteors per hour around the night of Oct. 21 and the morning of Oct. 22. Orion rises in the east at about midnight, and comes into best viewing time around 2 in the morning (note this is CDT times). I hope you enjoy these meteors, as these produce lots, yes I said lots of fireballs. What's a fireball? A fireball is a meteor that's so bright and so close that you can even see the smoke trail it leaves behind!

I hope you'll join me (although probably not in person) in viewing these!

Is this a specific time zone event or can I see it here in DC? (not considering light pollution)

Meteor showers are so cool!

Actually, the farther east in the US you are, the better the view will be. I don't recommend looking at them just yet, they are at about 7 or 8 meteors per hour now, but by the time they peak, they will be very easy to see, and there will be a lot of them. Orion should rise in DC on the 21-22 of October at about 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. EDT. If light pollution isn't a problem for you, I'd definitely recommend you seeing this. Feel free to ask any more questions.
