Superdance 2008

Yesterday was my high school's 33rd Annual SuperDance, as you might know.

That said, I'll say that this was a great dance. I was working a lot, making the dance run smoothly, but that's all in my job. I was on the Committee with about 80 other Juniors and Seniors planning this for the past 3.5 months.

In the end, we raised a lot of money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which does research in finding a cure to Cystic Fibrosis and make life easier for those that have it. I don't know the exact number, but we usually raise well over $150,000 with this event each year and have raised over $3 million total.

The whole Committee did a great job setting up and executing this event, including planning DJ's and bands for 12 hours. The whole school grew as a community and had a blast dancing.

The bad news: Well, not really bad news, just a slight setback, because we got through it. The power went out at 4 o'clock (we started at noon), due to the storm that was occurring outside. I had just finished a shift serving cups of water to thirsty dancers and was in the Committee break room. Luckily I had a small LED with me and attached it to my carabiner (which I always have with me). So I go back downstairs and instead of going to the gym to finally dance, I decide to help out because the Security Committee needed a little more help with this small set back. Soon after I helped serve dinner (donated pizza's and subs) which I was shifted for. This was in the dark, with flashlights, but fun nonetheless. Sometime between now and the end of dinner for everybody a generator was brought and we had music again! The Dance continued! Everybody had fun, because we don't need/want light to dance anyway. Unfortunately we had to stop at 7 o'clock instead of midnight, because the fire marshal said it was unsafe and all the other details around that and his position. Then the Committee cleaned up and at 9 o'clock we went to IHOP. I hung out there with friends until about 11:30.

Wow, that was a big bad news paragraph. But it showed you what happened and how we made do.

The dance that did occur rocked. Most of the music was good (but, IMO, we can't dance to rap, which one DJ was dead set on playing.), it was great to hang with friends, and the most important thing was raising money for the CFF and the fight against CF.
