Opinions

Just a quick comment - why do I notice so many people posting things like "That's your opinion, it's not a fact!". This seems like a stupid statement in my opinion (). Why should someone have to say that what they say is their opinion, shouldn't everything they post be their opinion? You could argue that there would be confusion about whether someone is stating an opinion of fact, but shouldn't facts be shown in quote tags, noted with their source or "but this is a fact..." being included in the post? Just something I thought of when I was reading a post. :)

What gets me is when I disagree with someone's opinion, clearly show why, and they just answer "this is my opinion." XD Occasionally I feel like replying "and this is mine; what's your point?", but I don't. :P

In an ideal world, that would be the case. But since we don't live in one, I can understand why people want to say that, just so it's crystal clear. Personally, I always include the IMO acronym when I'm saying something people might think I think is fact. So I never need to say it. :)

That's my point, what's the point of saying "that's just your opinion" etc...? Of course what they say is their opinion, whose is it if it's not? :P

The sky is blue. Now wouldn't it be annoying if I constantly have to cite my source for that? Trust me, I think it's a lot easier to just put IMO in an opinion, espeically since facts seem to be more common. :P

Most of the time one BZPower I've noticed is all about asking for opinions about the sets or story etc... and you do not ALWAYS have to show a quote ot note the source, but just say that it is a fact. :)

I don't really see many people saying "That's your opinion" in those topics. It's usually the complaint topics. :P

If you want an example, there was one about how they thought the quality of the comics was declining. The topic starter in that topic clearly seemed to be stating his opinions as facts, hence the amount of people there reminding him that it's not fact. :P

(This is from someone who doesn't know what topic you're talking about) - but if it is a subject involving taste etc... how can it NOT be an opinion? To me it just seems to be members like you and me nitpicking. :P

I think what you need to remember though is that a lot of those members don't actually think about what they are writing and exaggerate a lot. Also, as I said in the entry, they were probably stating their opinion as a fact to make it seem more important and get the message out there. :)

My personal opinion is that people shouldn't state their opinions as fact, it's too confusing to some people. Also, it does irritate people. :P

Can you provide me with several examples of this and your response to them?

There are no facts in this world. What we call facts are simply popular opinion.

OK, so the fact that I think I am currently on what I call planet Earth is not a fact?

You seem to be thinking that what they are typing is what they mean EXACTLY. Imagine what is being viewed is being said by a member. Of course when someone says "The new sets are awful", it's not a fact. It should be obvious that it isn't, It's only a problem when they SAY it's a fact. :)

But in the first topic, the topic starter implied that he just realized that it's opinion, meaning that he actually thought that it was fact.

In the second topic, I think the person still thinks that. :P

No, he said that he realised that his opinions weren't other people's opinions, not that his opinions are facts. :)
