Another One Of Those Responses

Queen of Noise

Have you noticed that some people seem to think they can justify anything, even the rudest or just plain stupidest behaviour, by saying "it was supposed to be funny" (and other variations, such as "I did it for the 'lulz'" and "it was humor")?

I always find myself wondering who misinformed them--don't you? It's so very obviously not true. I mean, I could go into someone's home and call him a string of expletives and epithets. Would saying "I did it for the 'lulz'" prevent me from being arrested for committing a hate crime? Of course not.

Do these people honestly think that by slapping a clause onto the end of a hateful statement makes it "okay"? Or are they just total brats?

Oh, it really makes me wonder...

I was just kidding. You don't need to totally flip out like that.

How am I supposed to know genocide was a sensitive area?

I indeed noticified it and have pointed it out before; people often "shield" an incorrect opinion by framing it as a supposed joke.

It's kind of like strapping the phrase "no offense" to the beginning or ending of your statement, which is terribly annoying.
