By the way #2: Yes, brandy is an alcoholic beverage. Liquor, actually. However, most (though technically not all) of the alcohol is cooked out in the course of baking, leaving the flavor but not the intoxicator.

Both, actually. At least, I think it's brandy she uses. Might be some other kind of liquor. I'd ask, but it's nearly 01:00 AM, so she's been asleep for two hours already. Nor am I going to dig through all of her recipes (half of which have been inherited from my grandmother) in the middle of the night.
