REVIEW*

Will the game be praised or slaughtered?

First, I'm going to start out on a good note.

This is FACT.

Anyway, recently I picked up a game called TWEWY. Or at least that is what I call it. Normal people call it "The World Ends With You", and crazy(read: awesome) people call it "It's a Wonderful World". Regardless, of what you call it it is a video game for Nintendo's handheld juggernaut the DS. At least that is what the PSP has been crying about. *punches PSP*

TWEWY is an action RPG. Like all RPGs it has crystals and dragons... wait... that's wrong. TWEWY is DIFFERENT. It doesn't have these things where you have to find four generic crystals in four generic locations. Like every Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts game... EVER.

The game takes place in Shibuya, a district in Tokyo. A real place without crystals. With a real neat art style.

You play as an emo kid named Neku Sakuraba who is rude to everyone about everything. And he is forced to team up with a partner Shiko... err Shiki. He has to team up with her if they want to survive, if they fail they get erased. Along the way Neku does open up, and he becomes a likable character, until that happened I wanted to put a Beat down on him.

The things that want him erased are the Noise and the more powerful Reapers. The Reapers send out missions to your fashionable cell phone, you have to complete the missions in order to proceed through the story. You have one week. Fail and face erasure. Of course, the story is longer than one week.

However, you need to battle the Noise with Pins, which give you numerous psychic abilities, from moving objects to pyrokinesis. These abilities are for Neku, the confusing thing is the character on the top screen also attacks using the D-pad or the A,B,X,Y buttons. These two battles happen at the same time, which is difficult to master, however, you can change the difficulty to make things easier. You can even have the CPU takeover the top screen character.

You can level up your Pins in three different ways, battling, mingle mode, and not playing the game. Battling is obvious so I'm not going to bother explaining it. In mingle mode, you get Pin Points for any DS on wireless mode, regardless of the game they are playing. If they are a TWEWY player you get more goodies such as seeing the stats on the other player and a shop they have. You can also get Shutdown PP, for not playing the game. You comeback and your pins gain experience.

Fashion is important in Shibuya, and you can choose what clothing you wear. It can boost your defense completely!

The food system is also awesome, you eat food it raises your stats. Then battle a bit to digest the food. Once done, you get the stat boost. Just like in real life you can only eat so much in 24 hours.

Slabs of Ham, Celery and Horseradish, Tons of Asparagus... What? I wasn't rambling. Honest!

The characters are awesome and the setting is awesome. And so is the soundtrack. The music from the game is epic, easily one of the best game soundtracks. The music fits the game, and it is excellent. It is really hard for me to choose a favorite song... so later I'll post some lyrics from my favorite songs.

This game was a welcome change from a rather stale and predictable genre. So if you have a DS go buy this game. If you got through my rambling review and don't have a DS, go buy one then the game. You deserve a reward. There are so many things I could say about this great game, I haven't really touched on the unique characters. Of which it has plenty. Perhaps that will be for another entry...

*Intentionally a rambling review to destroy your mind.

No number reviews for me!

Sorry for the time it took for me to get this up, I realize it was so zetta slow.

One thing I love about the game is the adjustable difficulty... you can change it from easy to the unlockable ultimate at any time, lower your HP, or set how long it takes for the CPU to take over your partner. But of course, higher difficulty means better items....
