S&T Contest #2 Review: "Kazi Verses the Meteors"

If you read through the S&T 2 contest entries, then you know there were so many great stories, it was hard to vote for just one. Because of this, Macku: Toa of Bubbles and I have decided to dedicate some of my blog entries to highlighting a few of our favorite stories. We're going to start with the ones that didn't make it beyond the preliminary voting, and the very first one is Darkwatch's (formerly Raziel: Keyblade Master) "Kazi Verses the Meteors."

Granted, the original version of this story didn't exactly line up with the Bionicle story line. It starts out with Kazi getting fired from his job, for reasons unknown. As he looks for a new job the next day, he hears a large crash and discovers a meteor shower is approaching Voya Nui! He and his friends build a tractor beam to deflect the meteors and--with a little covert help from Axonn--save the day. Like we said, not pure Bionicle, but it gets our award in the sci-fi/Bionicle crossover category. We love this story.

Darkwatch's rewrite, "Kazi Versus the Comets" fixes the story line errors. Kazi starts his day in introspection, but something about the air worries him. He rushes home and looks through "a makeshift telescope made of logs and a crystal" to see "a small cloud of flaming comets in the blackness of space." He has a few more obstacles to overcome in this version than in the first version, including a fallout with Piruk. The two make up later on, which adds that charming human touch to Bionicle, and together Kazi and his friends, again with Axonn's help, save the day.

If you haven't read this one yet, please do. We think you'll find it an entertaining read!

This is yet one more great idea by Turakii.

I remember reading that story while judging. It was fun to read :). Nice review.

Chances are that if it wasn't for me, he might end up entering his original draft. Or another judge would have judged it instead.

The first draft was, well, intresting. To be honest, I couldn't find anything that wasn't in some way against the rules =P but he got into the polls because he gave his story a massive overhaul.

It's kind of redundant giving out Seals of Approval now but he should get an award for 'Most Effort In Redo'

I also think Reya should get an award for 'Best Sportsmanship'. Admittedly, all this 'vote for Turakii' jazz would have been frustrating for me if I was him but he took it very well.

Also, there shouldn't have been so much chatting in the Mata Nui final poll and you were behind alot of that, Turkey-Eye =P

You're story deserved to win though. It blew your IPD tribute out of the water =D

Hey there, bngi!

Raziel/Darkwatch's story was indeed a fun read. The best parts were probably the tractor beam and the landspeeder.

Why not try "Cucumbers of Approval?" :P

Oh, by all means! He took the time to completely rewrite the story, with just as much imagination and creativity as the first. I love both versions.

I also think Reya should get an award for 'Best Sportsmanship'.

Although he got second place, he got more votes than either SPIRIT or Lady Kopaka!

If only they had picked two stories out of each poll to be official.

:lookaround:

:P

Traku and I were really excited. I'd never made it out of the preliminaries before, let alone found myself tied for second in the Finals!

Actually, I think Traku got even more into it then I did, and that's saying something.
