Medical Emergency
Yesterday went from relaxing to fun to scary very quickly.
At 10:30, my mother told us that we were going to a party to meet international students who came to the United States to go the college that we learned about through church. I met some really nice people from China, Japan, Vietnam, and Nepal. The hosts of the party (which was Luau themed) hired a group of dancers to perform. The danced native dances from Hawaii, New Zealand (maori), The Society Islands, even Japan, Mexico, and Ireland. Then they taught some volunteers some simple hula movements. Eventually, we will be assigned a student and we will take them shopping and go to movies and eat at restaurants and other fun things like that to teach them about American culture.
Now for the serious part of the blog. About halfway through the party, my little brother (you may know him as ~Po~) started feeling strange. He said his heart was beating too fast. So, when he told my mom, she told the hosts we needed to leave early. My mom and dad took him to a small medical clinic. The doctor there said that there was nothing he could do for my brother and said that they needed to get him to the ER right away. They raced him to the hospital and waited about 3 minutes before the preliminary check. The doctor took my brother's blood pressure and his jaw dropped. They raced him into the ER and administered a dose of medicine via IV drip designed to stop your heart for a moment then start it back up at normal speed. The medicine didn't take. They had paddles at the ready to try to shock his heart back to normal speed, but first the tried a second dose of the medicine. This time the dose was bigger and they pushed it through the IV drip. His heart stopped then started again like normal. He was fine again.
My brother was diagnosed with something called Supraventricular tachycardia; basically it means his heart was beating too fast. he is going in for a doctors appointment to see how they can stop it from happening again. I am not ashamed to say that I was scared spitless to lose my brother. I prayed for the peace that passes all understanding and I got though it. I am eternally thankful that I have 2 brothers this morning. God was watching out for him.
