Dry Run

Kopaka's Ice Engineering

Okay, seeing as I've never messed with a blog before, this might be rough at the outset.

This is a first post, just to see if I'm doing it right. And if I didn't, then oh well.

Two first topics, I suppose:

Thursday was the start of the 2006 hurricane season, and I'm still not in my apartment. FYI to those unaware: I moved to New Orleans in February 2005, getting a job modelling the sewer system of Metairie and Bridge City, LA. Katrina made for a lot of work & job security, but I've been forced to commute >60 miles (>100km) to work (each way) for the past 9 months. And then there's gas prices.

Friday I went to an Astros game with my mom & dad on his 56th birthday. 9 Amigos (the restaurant behind the right-center seats) is great, but RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Two entrées totalled up to $45. But hey, it was better than a $10 hot dog.

No amount of condiments can make a hot dog worth $10.

Meanwhile, the Bengals beat the Texans 14-3. Oh wait, it was the Reds beating the Astros 14-3.

Man, I should've gone to the World Series last year while I had the chance....at this rate I may be 46 before they get it together again, Rocket notwithstanding.

Ooft, that's a long commute: roughly an hour at average speeds. That doesn't even sound like fun work, especially if the smell is as bad as or worse than I think it is. :wired:

Well, gas prices seemed to have come down just a bit at least over the past couple weeks... yeah, that'll last. :glare:

So you're an Astros fan......I live in St. Louis. And am thus a Cardinals supporter.........yeah.

Anyway, I have sympathy for your commuting situation. Up in good old MO, things can get pretty congested at 7:15 (that's when I leave for school). Probably nothing compared to you, though.

Good luck with life, my friend.

I'm sorry to hear that. :P

It's not so much traffic as it is just a long way to drive to get to work.

Cars lose value according to their use and mileage: the more a vehicle is driven, the more wear and tear and the less it is worth.

I bought a new car on March 30, and today the odometer will reach 10,000 miles on the way home from work.

10,000 miles is usually what a car gets in a year, and I've done it in 3 days shy of 10 weeks.

Believe you me, I'm ready to move back.

Yikes. 10 weeks is not a long time. I remember reading in a book somewhere that the minute you buy a car, that car depreciates in value drastically. In other words, always invest in real estate. :)

By the way, your Astros were just one-hit by the Cubs. I was watching it on ESPN, and the Cub's pitcher drove in four runs, while taking a no hitter into the eighth. Hmm....it looks like the Reds are in position to take the lead in the NL Central.
