College Football Week 1 Wrap Up

Well, the first week of college football is pretty much in the books. (18th ranked Tennessee plays at UCLA on Monday). So here are the results. My week 2 poll will be released Tuesday with the conclusion of the game mentioned earlier.

1. Georgia won over Georgia Southern 45-21.

Not surprising, Georgia dominated the whole game, with most of Southern's points coming in garbage time against Georgia's bench.

2. Ohio State won over Youngstown State 43-0.

Ohio State won easily, but at what expense? They lost Chris Wells, who is a Heisman trophy candidate and will be muchly needed for their game against USC. Hopefully he will be able to bounce back.

3. USC won over Virginia 52-7.

Wow. No team goes to Virginia and just completely pounds the Cavaliers into the ground. This team looks awfully good right now.

4. Missouri won over #19 Illinois 52-42.

Missouri's offense is no doubt elite. The defense has some big problems though, giving up over 450 yards of offense to Illinois and 42 points. That will need to be fixed quick if they want any hope of making it to the national championship game through the treacherous Big XII Conference. And the loss of Maclin is a huge concern, who is no doubt Mizzou's game breaker.

5. Texas won over Florida Atlantic 52-10.

Texas made a clear statement today. They are back. After a shaky first half on defense, while the offense was perfect, in the 2nd half, Texas defense stuffed Florida Atlantic's superb passing offense, which comes a season after Texas' pass defense was a laughing stock. And this young secondary just got tested to the max this week. In a couple of weeks, this team will be the team NO ONE will want to play.

6. Florida won over Hawaii 56-10.

Florida looked crisp today. The offense was amazing, the defense was swarming. If they play like this every week, they will be unstoppable.

7. West Virginia won over Villanova 48-21

Pat White led his team to victory, tossing 5 touchdown passes. The Mountaineers offense hasn't lost its touch and the defense is solid. Will they break through this year?

8. Oklahoma won over Chattanooga 57-2

Oklahoma shows its offensive power and suffocating defense. They may be the 2nd best team in the Big 12, and its not 2nd to Missouri.

9. Auburn won over Louisiana-Monroe 34-0

Auburn's defense remains superb despite losing Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator and the offense looks good. But they are stuck in the SEC. The Supreme Epic Conference, with as many legendary match ups this season.

10. Clemson lost to #23 Alabama 10-34

Goodbye national title hopes.

11. LSU won over Appalachian State 41-13

LSU wasn't allowing a repeat of what happened to Michigan last year.

12. Texas Tech won over Eastern Washington 49-24

Where is that improved defense?

13. Kansas won over Florida International 40-10

Looks like last year was no fluke

14. Arizona State won over Northern Arizona 30-13

Arizona State struggled quite a bit. Don't look like defending conference champs. Maybe they are still getting their heads cleared from the crushing they got from Texas in the Holiday Bowl.

15. BYU won over Northern Iowa 41-17

They looked like the solid choice for BCS Busters, until Utah won at the Big House. The Mountain West is in for a wild wild season.

16. Wisconsin won over Akron 38-17

Looks to ride on the legs of PJ Hill, one the best running backs in the nation the past 2 years.

17. South Florida won over Tennessee-Martin

I see another Big East challenger. They do have West Virginia's number, winning 2 straight against them.

18. Tennessee @ UCLA, Monday

19. Illinois lost to #6 Missouri 42-52

Tough loss for Illinois, but they are a legit team, just need to improve on defense, the offense is just fine.

20. Virginia Tech lost to East Carolina 22-27

How dissapointing, they are supposed to be the ACC's next best team outside of Clemson.

21. Penn State won over Coastal Carolina 66-10

The Nittany Lions look to hunt down Ohio State for the Big 10 title.

22. Wake Forest won over Baylor 41-13

This now looks like the best team in the ACC.

23. Alabama won over #10 Clemson 34-10

Can the SEC get any tougher? Oh wait, it just did. Here comes a rising tide.

24. Oregon won over Washington 44-10

The uniforms always will look hideous, but with the way they play, they at least are able to make themselves look good.

25. Nebraska won over Western Michigan 47-24

Now that is more like Nebraska football. Still not lookin' like Blackshirts yet though.
