My 20 Fave Bionicle Artists

1. Rahi Zaku. Hands-down the most influential Bionicle artist of all time. Without the RZ-man, where would any of us be? Morgan Biddinger brought the pseudo-chibi—or “hard empire”—style out of the BZP underground and sent it rocketing into the mainstream of Bionicle art. He also created countless kits, won a BBC in a landslide and influenced an entire generation of Bionicle artists—all in the span of only three years.

2. Nikira. Probably the most likely candidate for the “new RZ” title, Nikira took the anthropomorphic qualities of pseudo-chibi and pushed them to the edge of the envelope. Add a cup of anime and two tablespoons sci-fi and you have a Bionicle art style faithful to the sets and the movies but not austerely mechanical--and with a tiny little dash of sexual energy. If Rahi Zaku was Bionicle art’s Elvis, Nikira is certainly its Beatles.

3. Schizo Kaita. Although you don’t see much of Schizo nowadays, he was one of the hottest Bionicle artists going in his day. His mixture of flashy comic art and godlike Photoshop skills won him quite a following. Schizo is often credited as one of the few artists who could keep up with RZ.

4. Razor. Razor is the most influential spriter of all time, period. His sprite kits were (and still are) so commonly used, they soon became cliché.

5. Toa of Art. Arguably the first really prominent Bionicle artist, ToA was also the first to take the intricacies of set-style and make them rock. I still can't figure out what he was doing.

6. Lady Kopaka. A massively talented and creative individual with an artistic passion like the flames of the Mangai Volcano, Lady K helped popularize Organic Bionicle art along with her contemporary and polar opposite, Nikira.

7. Toa-Po. Toa-Po, without question, is one of the most underrated Bionicle artists of all time. His mixture of set-style (in the ToA sense) and anthropomorphized personality (in the RZ sense) is truly a killer approach. He is not known for being prolific, but when he does turn out some art, it never fails to disappoint.

8. Raka. Raka is a die-hard metal fan and it shows. His drawings, depicting bloodthirsty demons and buxom biomechanical babes, would not look out of place on anything from Century Media. Like RZ, he received a lot of flak for his anatomically correct artwork. He is also credited with the brief-but-bright Bionicle band fad along with his buddy Vezok’s Friend.

9: Kanta of Le-Koro. Kanta is an artist with the rare ability to mix set-style and Hard Empire in equal measures, resulting in a dynamic, Gundam-esque style.

10: Mahalis. Not very well-known today, but back in his day, people drooled nonstop over his 3D renderings.

11: Naed3. I’m not sure if he’s on BZP, but he is one of the few artists who can make minimalism really work with Bionicle.

12: Jaligenius. Jali excels at bringing those unrevealed characters of Greg Farshtey’s to life, most notably the Toa Hagah and the Mangai. Her style is extremely similar to that of ToA with a little Carlos D’anda thrown in for that extra spice.

13: InnerRayg. When people got tired or Razor sprites, they used InnerRayg’s. However, this artist is not limited to the mundane field of spriting.

14: Zyrael. Zyrael’s style is impossible to describe, much less replicate. She is probably the first artist to mix organic and set-style and certainly the first to make it look good.

15: StubbedToa. Back in his early days, he was best known for his hilarious avatar. However, this artist has risen with some pretty phenomenal fantasy-comic pieces.

16: Vezok's Friend. VF's style is much grittier and less refined than that of his inseparable partner, Raka. However, the two are pretty much on par artistically. (Raka was boosted eight points for inspiring the short-lived Bionicle Band fad.) In his own right, VF is a brilliantly edgy artist with a lot of guts--an attribute not normally seen in the Bionicle art community, especially if you don't end up like poor RZ.

17: Macku: Toa of Bubbles. Although Macku is more famous as a critic, author and the mother of Turakii #1 Lavasurfer, Macku is also an excellent hand-artist. She stands out from the hordes of other pseudo-movie-style artists because her art freakin' ROCKS.

18: BordakhBlue. Around 2005, BordakhBlue was the set-style artist par excellence. Back in his/her day, his/her art was so realistic people believed he/she was just editing photos.

19: Uncle Krekka. His name is pure win and so is his art.

20: Data2048. Not on BZP but rather on an enormous art-hosting site everyone knows the name of but I will not say here. Certainly the raunchiest of the New Wave of Human Bionicle artists.

Anyway:

*Gets ego boost* :3

Totally agree with the others and I'm glad you took notice of the older classic fellows. Though I know this entry is on your personal taste in art, you did forget Brave_Dragon/VF's/Dok, those three are amazing.
