No Sound - Help Appreciated

Oy.

So uh, my laptop's audio got shot. I was installing Skype and checking my non-existent microphone's drivers, and my sound totally disappeared.

All my audio devices are listed as installed and working (save my microphone, which I finally realized I don't really have xD) and my volume levels are all on. When I try to test my speakers for my laptop, I get an error message saying it failed to play.

=(

Help?

EDIT: FIXED!

Three solutions:

  • Reinstall your audio drivers (Should be on CD's that came with your laptop)
  • Call your manufacturer's customer support (And then get relayed to Microsoft, and then to the manufacturer, and then back again)
  • Switch to Mac (Best solution)

Or, of course, you could do things the fun way and totally dismantle your laptop. You never know, dust could be the culprit. It's been my problem lately. Ended up frying the CPU because of too much dust!

But thankfully enough, the problem was solved by tearing it apart and installing new components (Which weren't so new considering how old they are!)

Techie Support, Limited is here! (and if you think that Limited is a joke, think again  )

Okay, I assume you have XP. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools and select System Restore. Follow the instructions (its a guided thing), making sure that you restore the comp to a date before you lost your sound.

System Restore is a handy tool that usually fixes things up.
