I remember I used to watch some sort of Gundam on Toonami. I loved the announcer dude at the beginning of each episode, in that spotlight.

The main character had black hair, and piloted a stereotypical blue/red/white gundam. Any idea what one I'm talking about?

Same one! The announcer dude is so random. It's like, where'd he come from and how does he know what's been going on with our heroes? Ah well.

And it's blue/red/white/gold.

Actually, until they brought out the God Gundam, the Dragon Gundam's design was probably my favorite... although I am a bit biased.

I will have to find that series, because that was the only Gundam I ever remotely liked.

And I think that Gurren Lagann parodied the ending a bit, from what I remember about it. Gundam, not GL. I just watched GL.

Especially the part where Simon takes off his cape to give to Nia.

No, the Shining Gundam's the same. But they called the Devil Gundam the Dark Gundam or something. And it doesn't really make sense to change the God Gundam's name... there's a reason the show is called G Gundam.
