we hate it

we fear it

we covet it

we write poems

and books

and movies about it;

we laugh

we cry

we scream

we sing

we wonder

and we dream.

The further we reach the

farther

the answer runs ahead

laughing;

for some questions are their own answers like

Give me more

pass it under the table

make me high

make me laugh

make me sing

make me cry

I want to live

even if it hurts

more than anything else in the world

but yet

the world is life

and life is the world

so give me the world

let me scale Mount Everest

to find it;

let me

dig through the deepest,

darkest cave

let me ride the buckin' bronco

and the roaring wave

let me live.
