Bink's Trip To Denmark
OK, so by now the story's been out in BrickJournal for a day or two, about my little trip to Denmark to interview for the position of Bionicle.com Web Producer. My story was basically written for adults, although it's certainly fine for younger readers. But since I've gotten a couple of questions about it, I'll just lay it out here a little more plainly.
* I'd heard last November that LEGO was looking for a new web producer for Bionicle.com.
* I sent in my resume via a couple of LEGO contacts I have.
* Heard back, and had some good conversations about the job with the guy in charge.
* Had some serious talks with my wife about the possibility of moving from Oregon to Denmark.
* Got invited to interview in Billund, Denmark, where the LEGO Company is headquartered.
* Went on the trip, got to meet people and see things that were nifty-cool.
* Got shown around for a couple of hours by Jan Beyer, one of the LEGO community team. He was awesome, showed me the factory and some cool stuff.
* Talked with Leah Weston for a few hours (she's the first Bionicle.com producer), she's as fun in person as she is through email.
* Talked with a lot of people who work for LEGO, who were all very friendly and outgoing to this bumbling American.
* Boy howdy they've got a great work environment!
* Flew back home.
* Slept, then slept some more.
* Talked with my wife about the whole thing. That was a tough weekend, and the repurcussions are still reverberating. She didn't want to move, and I didn't want to drag her and the family if they didn't want to go.
* Got the call on Monday seeing if I was interested in the job. Interested, heck ya - but I couldn't accept it, unfortunately. Much as I really, really wanted to.
* Went back to my current scaggy workplace, where they treat me like dirt. A cog, with no added value than pushing buttons. Where they keep yanking my job around (two redefinitions in the last week about what I'll be doing).
So, here I am. Would I still want to do the job? In a heartbeat *snaps fingers*. But I just can't relocate right now.
Job Posting: Web Developer seeks challenging position that allows creativity as well as experienced project management. LAMP (Linux/Apache/mySQL/PHP-Perl) development specialty. Contact Bink any time.
But at least I have "extra" time to work on other projects, some of which I'll post here later.
