Ubuntu: The Start

One of my Comp Sci friends finally put Ubuntu (Linux) on my computer today. (I say finally on my part, not his, because I was sort of hesitant.) But he assured me nothing would go wrong. *crosses fingers*

It's cool. I can't fully use it yet, because I can't access my C drive folders/documents, but I'll fool around with what I can do. The screen also has to be smaller for some reason. But it looks nice, has its features, and once he works a tad more on it I'll hopefully be able to use it for everything. I can easily move from Ubuntu to Vista as needed, but can't copy stuff.

For all the tech people who would understand this: So...it's on a VM right now. I boot up Vista and then Ubuntu. Which is also why I can't access any of my files from my main computer. I might go buy an 8 GB flash drive, which will then not be a VM. Or we might put it on my computer a different way, which would allow me to get my files and stuff.

For some reason the "back" button on my mouse does not work, so I have to press the key or the button on the browser. He should be able to fix that too.

-CF :kakama:

And...I'll go back to Vista and give you a QotD: As you make your way through this hectic world of ours, set aside a few minutes each day. At the end of the year, you'll have a couple of days saved up.

Ooh! Virtual PC! Those are awesome, I've got my old computer on this computer here. I assume you're using VMWare?

Also, if your friend knows what he's doing, you can transfer files over relatively easier if you access the Vista over the network from your Ubuntu. I've used that to transfer my old documents over from my old computer inside my VM.

I wish they would have built an easier file transfer manager into the program, though...

My horrible roommate had something like that... two separate monitors running on different systems and whatnot. The computer was so huge and generated so much heat he turned the room into a sauna. I didn't like him or his equipment.

ubuntu: smart, secure, lean, good-looking. . . but a relative challenge for the unaccustomed to work with.
