CHAPTER73 : Jinzo's Trump card

Alrighty.

It's almost good I'm not going to open the discussion for this topic, because how people answered could have possibly changed my otherwise positive opinions of them.

What am I saying? Of course I'll leave the discussion open! Who wants to live in a fool's paradise?!?

A Moderator can lock it if the civility factor is compromised too badly.

Here goes.

Homosexuality.

In some cases, it is a "lifestyle choice". Much as Michael Jackson, for WHATEVER reason decided to first change into a woman, then again into something eerily more necrotic-lookin', so too can one "choose" to be homosexual.

From what I've seen, it's not the majority of them.

Just like you and me, they are born, then wake up one day with a drumming sound in the ears.

Unlike us, the beat of the drum only pounds around the opposite sex. Go fig? But that's the deal.

Who else is like this?

Who else is "born"?

People of a different skin color.

They are born, and by NO FAULT OR CHOICE OF THEIR OWN, they are what they are.

So. Let me get this straight.

One kind of person innocent of their body's attributes can write stories of romance... for if they were told they could not, BZ would almost certainly be sued and or wind up on the evening news.

One kind of person innocent of their body's attributes has to just bite the bullet?

Sure, sure, there's people who, by no fault or choice of their own, wake up and decide that immoral, humiliating, murderous acts against their fellow man is somehow "normal"... and while that's unfortunate, it is uncommon. Lives are at stake and people DEAL with it accordingly.

But this?

We already evolved fairly well to not slam a person for being a certain color on the outside.

So how on earth is this going on with those a different color on the inside?

Hideous. Though one more time, I do believe that a "wrong" was not the intention.

Hopefully I have altered what was the real problem with the rule being enacted, which was merely the staff's perception of the situation.

Well, the staff that agreed / authored it. It is ENTIRELY possible that the obvious parallel present between one being born a certain color and one being born to a certain disposition were missed.

In fact, I missed it earl on in the discussion myself... despite it being slap-in-the-face right in front of me.

Peace?

Think no less than one minute on what you just read before even THINKING of hitting that reply button.

You have all the time in the world to formulate a coherent, respectful statement of your position, should you disagree with mine.

Rule 13 (yes, Necro. Come In And Give Us Your Opinion)

STOP ARGUING.

Seriously. I may not like the rule, but I see why the staffies made it. So everyone who's arguing, shut up and get on with your lives so we can get on with ours. You don't like it, I don't like it, but you know what I like less? Seeing BZP being run down by your incessant arguing. And I'm sure you'd rather see us all happy. And the best way to do that? STOP ARGUING.

... ... ...The world does NOT work this way. >__<

We'll get there, eventually. Society changes slowly, but it does change, and we've been making some lovely progress in recent years as far as the acceptance and rights of LGBT folk goes...

Though... why do you think the staff's 'perception' of the situation is wrong? Whenever people have posted gay love stories, or even just talked about being gay in blogs, other people have gotten incredibly rude and started flaming them or sent HH angry PMs. I'm not quite sure how that could be misinterpreted. And one runs into the same sort of thing again and again and again out in the real world.

Now, disagreement over how to handle that, that's another thing. Which has been gone over quite thoroughly many times now and does not need to again.

Ignoring my position, I'd like to point out that skin color, which comes from one's ethnicity, isn't that comparable to preference. If somebody is born African-American, for instance, they will forever be African-American. Surgery can't change that; there are no cases of people changing ethnicity. (I'm not ignoring the Michael Jackson case; he didn't change ethnicity, merely his appearance.)

There are plenty of cases, however, of people's preferences changing. And that's what homosexuality is: a preference. One can claim to be "born homosexual," but there is no proof that that actually happens. Also, there are many cases of people who were homosexual becoming "straight" and vice versa, which further establishes homosexuality as a preference as opposed to a "born" condition. Therefore, you cannot really compare homosexuality and ethnicity as closely as you did.

I hope I don't sound like I'm simply putting down your arguments. If I understood you correctly, though, the main argument of your blog entry was the correlation between homosexuality and ethnicity, and I disagree that this is a strong correlation.

(Just because I've seen how quickly people's tempers can flare up on this website, I'm including a smiley for the good feelings it conveys. Like Jinzo said, can we have some peace?) :)

I... I'm not even sure what to say to that.

Certainly there are cases of a person being mistaken about his or her orientation, hence the whole notion of someone "discovering" that he or she's gay. There's also the possibility that the person in question is bisexual but might not identify as such. And I'm sure there are people deviant enough to flip around on both sides just for the heck of it. But at any rate, ask most any gay guy or lesbian or bisexual off the street whether they ever had any choice in what gender they felt attracted to, and I can nearly guarantee the answer will be "no."

But.

There is no way an open discussion of sexual orientations is going to end well. And frankly, there's only a tiny step between broaching this subject and getting into content very strictly not allowed on BZP, so I am declaring this subject matter closed.

Actually, this whole entry is walking on thin ice to begin with... If people stay completely civil and respectful, it could go fine, but it could also go into the more offensive end very easily. So I'd keep a close watch on this if I were you, mmkay?
