Apple does well in the customer service department, but their customer service technicians are blind.

How so?

Well, the frame to my iPod touch is quite obiously bent; like someone grabbed both sides of it and twisted a little. As a result, the main body of the iPod sits cockeyed in the frame, and the power button doesn't function properly. So, I sent it in to Apple for servicing. After a day of "diagnostics", the technicians emailed me saying that they couldn't find anything physically wrong with my iPod. According to them, it's still in perfect condition, and they're sending it back to me.

Figures. My advice to avoid such things is to get an mp3 player that has some level of actual durability to it.

Every iPod I've ever seen looks like you could snap it in half by breathing on it, and everyone I know who owns one is on at least their second or third due to them breaking.

This is actually my fourth iPod in five years, and none of them have ever broken or had any troubles at all. Half of the people at school have had, or do have an iPod of various design, and none of them have broken theirs either. Quite frankly, I disagree with you guys on saying that they're especially fragile. The only thing that would make them more fragile is the much more extensive amounts of technology in them.
