Sango, Kohaku, And Kirara

Kohaku

Inuyasha is ending its run on TV soon. By that I mean no more new episodes. Which saddens me, although we must celebrate in some way... Therefore I will give you some information on the characters. Starting with Sango, Kohaku, and Kirara. Not because they are my favorites, but because of the episode that airs tonight: Sango, Kohaku, and Kirara: The Secret Flower Garden.

I'm not going to post the entire history of the characters, as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who is interested in getting into Inuyasha. For Kohaku... it is a bit different.

Sango

[Picture Here]

Sango is a highly skilled demon exterminator. Sango, like all other children of the village, had been training to master the art of demon extermination from a very young age. Her preferred weapon is a gigantic boomerang made of the bones of demons, and it is called the Hiraikotsu.

She is a valiant warrior in battle as she is the best demon exterminator from the village, and with her Hiraikotsu she is not an opponent to be taken lightly. Sango also has her fire cat demon companion, Kirara. She hopes to defeat Naraku and be reunited with Kohaku who was manipulated by Naraku with a Shikon Shard to do his biddings.

Weapons:

Hiraikotsu - The name of Sango's giant boomerang, and also the name of the attack using it. It was made from the bone of a demon, and this makes it nearly unbreakable and powerful. 'Hi-' means 'flying', 'rai-' means 'return' and '-kotsu' means 'bone', so the name can also mean "bone that flies back."

Demon Paralyzing Poisons - Sango's knowledge of various poisons (particularly ones that affect only demons) is extensive, and she employs a few different kinds throughout the series. She wears a custom-fit gas mask to protect herself from some of the more potent ones.

Dagger gauntlet - Hidden in the sleeve of her kimono is a retractable dagger, but she rarely uses it, unless her Hiraikotsu is knocked away. She also uses it for defense if the opponent gets too close.

Katana - A weapon that she sometimes uses in close combat or if she loses Hiraikotsu, but she prefers her main weapon.

Chain- uses the chain as a whip and constrict foes.

Kohaku

Kohaku is Sango's younger brother. When Kohaku turned eleven, his father told him that he must now put his training as a demon exterminator to use and help the rest of his family (who are also demon exterminators) with their next mission. The mission is exterminating a Spider demon who is tormenting a castle. Kohaku is scared, but he does not want to disappoint his father. Sango cheers him up by telling him he will be safe with her. However, during the mission something goes horribly wrong. Kohaku becomes a puppet of the Spider demon, who has taken the form of the Castle's Lord, and kills his family. Sango sees the spider thread the demon is using to control Kohaku connected to the back of his neck and knows he is not himself. Sango tries to wake her brother up and a battle ensues. They fight until the false Lord orders them killed. Sango is wounded and Kohaku is released from the demon's spell. He rushes to aid Sango, only to be shot dead by the Lord's archers.

Later on in the series, Kohaku is brought back to life by Naraku, and is kept alive by a shard of the Shikon no Tama lodged in his back. He remembers nothing of his past life and so, he becomes Naraku's servant.

Kohaku has recovered his memory, but keeps it a secret and decides that even at the cost of his own life, he will kill Naraku.

He traveled with Kikyo for awhile to try to redeem himself. After Kikyo's defeat, Naraku succeeded in reuniting and corrupting all of the Shikon Jewel, except for the shard in Kohaku's body.

Kohaku now follows Sesshomaru's group. It was recently discovered that using the Tenseiga to bring Kohaku back to life would not work, if Sesshoumaru would even bother reviving him.

Weapons:

Kusarigama - Chained Sickle

Katana

Kirara

Pronounced kee-LAH-lah. [Kirara Small] [Kirara Large]

Kirara is the demon companion of Sango, the demon exterminator that hails from a mountain village of other exterminators. Despite her demon blood and appearance, she is fiercely loyal to Sango and her friends and has been in Sango's family for generations. She has taken a particular shine to Shippo, keeping the young fox demon company when her presence is not required in battle, and she has aided Inuyasha on occasion by teaching him how to wield his sword, the Tessaiga. Kirara is a formidable opponent, and she displays her strength and agility on several occasions. She also seems to have an unusual resistance to poison and is able to pass through certain kinds of barriers.

Kirara usually appears as a tiny and cute feline no larger than a kitten with white fur, various black markings, large red eyes, and two tails, but her true form is a large Saber toothed like yōkai-cat. She has long, saber fangs and the fire that wreaths her legs and tails. She is also able to fly in her larger form and can easily carry three people on her back.

It is strongly hinted at in the anime that Kirara, or one of her ancestors, was at one time the companion of Midoriko, creator of the Shikon no Tama (The Jewel of the Four Souls).

I hope you enjoyed the first installment of Inuyasha characters.

For some reason, I never really got into Inuyasha. Don't know why. My sister is a pretty big fan, though. I'm sure she's not too happy that they won't be airing any new episodes. But hey, she has Bleach, Trinity Blood, and Eureka 7 to watch. :P
