But You Didn't See What Was Behind The Glass

So anyways....

Notes towards an essay from a cold place- no, scratch that.

Points towards, possibly, a rant. From a very unsanitary location.

Bionicle, in it's present state, being little more than a cash cow now, compared the thing of quality it was years ago, needs changes. Possibly, these changes would cause a monetary loss, but I'm not looking at this from the standpoint of a company, as such entities simply bloat themselves on cash which they, given the quality of their product in a storyline sense, do not deserve.

Changes. For the better, before you get any ideas in your head. I remember when the nature of "Teridax" was revealed, and I remember at that point thinking the rocket boosters had just kicked in. No, not in a glorious sense, not related to an error of that magnitude. Rather in the sense of sled, slipping and bouncing topsy-turvy down a hill, propelled to it's doom by a solid-fuel rocket engine.

There are things that shouldn't be revealed. And certainly, there are events in past story for which we lack answers. But, and this is I think the largest of the points I'm trying to make, they are for the most part little things. Back in 2001, if you can remember that far back, we knew barely anything. Up to the end of the Bohrok saga, including the Kal, there was still a great deal of mystery in regards to rather major plot points. It would, I think, have been better to keep much of that in shadow, things like the Vahi, or the origin of the Bohrok(which, as it is, really sucks, thanks Greg).

Anyways, I may have lost track of where I was going with this(which happens, I can't rant with an outline), so I'll say one thing and post this.

Indeed, the mysteries of the universe are what kept me into bionicle for a long time. As cool in concept as the whole truth seems now, it was always better when you had, you know, needed to use your imagination. Kids these days...

Bionicle has changed. Unfortunate, yeah, but still... it has.

And Bara Magna seems pretty cool.

(Though, agreed on most points. More mysteries [good ones, I mean] would be really nice. And ones that aren't just answered in the next book or when someone sends Greg a PM asking about it.)

Well, I voted all because there was more than one answer that fit. Although the community doesn't quite define Bionicle for me (though it may help now), answer 1 was the only one that we seem to have lost, IMO.

But that's not the point. The point is, I agree on the mystery part. I saw your post and Bink has replied, asking if this mystery really is what makes it a great mix. We need to reply to that and tell him things like what you just mentioned here.

I totally agree on the MoMN's real name, and how there are still some things that don't need to be delved into. There are also mysteries that would be cool to work around, but LEGO does not--like maybe having a Toa team of the other elements (sonics, iron, magnetism, etc); that would add to the story/environment/things yet explored. But instead we stick to the six elements we've always known (not that it's terrible).

But lo, in the end, Lego will not listen to us.

I haven't even followed the story since 2005ish, so I don't know the origins of the Bohrok. If they're really that bad, I'm glad I don't know.

About "Teridax"... yeah, I definitely agree on that. Creating an entire Brotherhood of Makuta watered down the original, real Makuta's image. And I would have preferred that he remained unnamed, but if Greg HAD to name him, why couldn't it be a Polynesian-esque name? Just for him? I don't mind these poorly disguised English words on other characters, but Makuta?

What bugs me more than the story, though, is the sets, and how they've gone from innovative, incorporating cool functions (see: Rahi, Boxor, Bahrag) to sets with no functions whatsoever. Unfortunately that is what kids today are like. People want to rush straight ahead to the finished set, shoot some flashy missiles for a few minutes, "pose" them on a shelf and then go back to their consoles for the rest of the day. LEGO has to cater for this generation as best they can if they want to make money and unfortunately for us this is the way forward.

Wait, he revealed that? YES IT WASN'T RUINED FOR ME.

>It's a multi-choice poll

Now I found out. >> Oh well I voted MOCing. and glad to see it is in second over the storyline. =]

It used to be the first option and that's what kept me with BIONICLE. In the last few years, it's fallen apart IMO. :/

Now the story's gone all over the place, all the mystery is gone.

As a result, my interest in it is almost non-existant now.

They should just stop with the Matoran Universe for a while. Wait a couple years and then be like OH NOES MAKUTA IN MATA NUI'S BODY IS HERE TO RUIN THE DAY!
