Ringworld

I might as well start from the beginning. Casty's new WIP is pretty amazing. That said, he says the inspiration comes from the sci-fi book Ringworld. If you don't feel like reading through all that right now, then know this: "The "Ringworld" is an artificial ring about one million miles wide and approximately the diameter of Earth's orbit (which makes it about 600 million miles in circumference), encircling a Sol-type star. It rotates, providing an artificial gravity that is 99.2% as strong as Earth's gravity through the action of centrifugal force. Ringworld has a habitable flat inner surface..."

What's cool, and what makes me want to read this book, is that I really like the concept. I've had a similar idea for a very long time, actually, though slightly different, and would love to see how he portrays the setting.

My idea, however, is not a ring-world, but that idea as a whole sphere. Like the ringworld, there is a whole society on an inside that has a sun in the center. But my idea is a whole world with a sun in the middle. Like an inside out planet(/solar system).

Just a cool concept I though of, and seeing a similar idea really wants me to pick it up so I can see how the environment was done to make it believable and enjoyable. (I'll just add it to the mile long list of other books to read.)

Already an existing concept, look up Dyson spheres.

Right. Wikipedia also mentioned those, so any story idea I have is pretty much shot. Still a cool concept though.

Also Halo Wars had one of those type planets.

But anyways, I want to read that book really badly now. :D

The Halo Wars version is technically a mini-Dyson sphere, but it's really the only feasible form, as a full-sized one ends up at something like a few hundred million miles in diameter.

See: Ghosts of Onyx. (There's a full-sized one in that book.)

Not in the usual sense, the one in GoO is built inside a slipspace pocket, with access from the core of a planet in realspace.
