Brickfair Mosaic Project

If you have read this entry or ChocolateFrogs' entry, you will know that CF and I are devising a plan to make an epic mosaic that will be Bionicle-related to be shown at BrickFair 2010, where each different square plate of it was made by different people who had either confirmed that they were attending BrickFair or BZP members who were going to make a plate at home and then mail in before the start of BrickFair.

Currently, we are still searching for an image that would be idea to use for the mosaic. We were thinking of this one of the Toa Mata, but we realized that it might make it so people would have to go buy extra colours of bricks (such as green for Lewa) that they might not want to or were unable to purchase. We also started thinking about using this image of the half Hau-half island pic, but parts of it become rather flat once we put it into the mosaic maker program, and that just isn't too exciting.

What CF and I are asking now is for members such as yourself to give us some ideas for a picture that we can use as the final mosaic. We're thinking of one from the beginning years of Bionicle, but if you have an image that isn't, go ahead and post a link to it anyway!

Make sure, however, that the image you may have in mind is a decent-sized one. For example, here is a image of Hapori Tohu that I blatantly ripped off the front page and then resized:

Again, where are these image links disappearing to?-Future Nukaya

Note the fact that since the image had to be resized so much, a lot of the details are lost once the picture is converted into mosaic form. So, please please please try your best to find a decent-sized version of the image.

Colour is also an issue. In LEGO mosaics, some designers will use every colour of brick that LEGO makes, and others will limit to solely using the basic five: red, yellow, blue, black, and white. Most images will work rather well as a mosaic using the basic five colours, but others where there might be a large amount of colours that require blending to make them appear (i.e., greens, purples, etc.) either requires having a larger variety of brick colours or making the mosaic bigger so when you look at it from afar, the colours appear to "blend". This leaves us with two problems, as this would either require us to make a extremely large mosaic that we might not get enough people to help us complete it, or we would have to require people to go out and buy bricks in colours that they might not want to buy or are unable to go and buy. Personally (as a college student who watches her money disappear to paying tuition and saving up for BrickFair) I would prefer to have it so we only use the basic five colours, as those are the ones that most people will have the most of in their collections. So, keep in mind that the image that you might have in mind should be one that should work well whether it is using all the colours or just the basic five. Most do, so don't worry too much about it.

I am really looking forward to seeing how this all comes together, especially as mosaics falls under the Other category at Brickfair, and I'm volunteering as the Other category coordinator, so it would be absolutely phenomenal to have something made by so many Bionicle fans, especially from the BZPower community at BrickFair. Also, check out ChocolateFrogs' blog for more info as well some things that I probably forgot to mention. Keep your eyes peeled for more information to come in regards to this project!

(and 295 days until BrickFair!!)

I'm posting here because no one else had and you need a comment of support.

Yay! Great idea!

I'm glad this was thought of so much in advanced, because we have a little bit of time to get everything together, as opposed to wanting to do it in, say, June.

A few members have already given some ideas, and even pictures already scaled down, so we certainly have some support. At this pace we should have people begging for more squares to make.

We need a banner....

295 days yay!
