Sometimes I Feel So Cruddy

I know I need to draw... I just... I dunno... Can't. D:

It doesn't feel like lack of inspiration or stuff to do, I don't have a broken drawing hand... So what is it?

I hate my laziness. If I were a real artist, I'd give myself a nice kick in the rear and get to work. :/

If you really wanna be a artist, just draw. Get a sheet of paper, a pencil, and doodle until your hands hurt. It doesn't have to look good at all, just do it to keep you in shape and habit. That's what I do. Secondly, just relax about it and put your standards down, that usually messes you up big time.

Or just don't think about it, and take a break from it completely for a week or so. It isn't going anywhere. I think.

Quoted for utter truth and epicness.

See, that's part of the problem. I can't just sketch for the sake of sketching. I think it's because I'm such a perfectionist that I can't "just sketch;" I either HAVE TO finish it, or else I just throw it into my wastebasket.

I feel special.

Then you need to train yourself to sketch. Every artist does it, I don't know anyone that everything they draw ends up looking decent/epic. I'm a terrible perfectionist too, but you have to drill it in your head to do this. I mean, everyone has different ways to draw/improve, but this is sort of a necessity. No one else has to see the drawings; you will improve A LOT, maybe even more than drawing a big image; it's fun once you get in the habit, because you never know what will show up on that paper.

I totally relate, so I don't want to be rude, but if you really want to get somewhere, you just gotta stop with the excuses, tell yourself to deal with it and draw. Sometimes it will be miserable, but usually, if you pull yourself through it, you'll get some amazing stuff done I'm sure. It's sadly a vicious cycle, so just expect it and do your best.

edit: want me to upload some random doodles/sketches? It might burn your eyes out, but it may help.

I can just say that I know how easily one can get frustrated when a piece of art isn't working out the way it was intended too, which is the main-reason my recent output in art is so low.

You've got to find a balance. Which is why I sometimes just doodle something up when I am bored.

As another tip for that though, if you are a perfectionist in such a way, I recommend drawing simple things.

For example, just draw an eye, or some other random single simple object. It leaves your focus open for details without worrying to spend too much time when there is the rest of a bigger drawing waiting to get the same intense attention as this specific part.

Or you can work on and off different pieces of art simultaneously. Draw a little here, finish a good detail, then switch to another drawing and finish some small part of that. Of course that slows down the rate at which you finish your work.

Maybe these ideas are helpful for ya?

I agree with Lady K here. With artist's block, I've taken time off of drawing for the longest periods of time but the best and surefire way of actually getting somewhere is just throwing your emotions down on a page. In art form :P

And idk if it's just me and my obsession with them but drawing shadow leeches can really remedy bio-artist block.
