Chapter 8: The Silvertounges

We arrived at a jungle area where the general said there was a friend there that could help us. We walked into the forest. I looked around, and it was the most beautiful thing I have seen. Yet it felt so familiar.

“Drakis, what’s wrong with you?” Garion asked.

“I’m not sure..”

I kept looking around. I saw a huge tree with some kind of broken contraption next to it. The contraption looked like a cocoon and it had a rope leading up. We kept walking and I saw a huge hole in a wall we passed by. I looked inside and saw mining equipment. I asked Visarra.

“Visarra, what happened here?”

“I think this was some kind of old road to this jungle, kind of a dumb place for a road, huh?”

I stared for a long time.

*static*

I saw images again of a small person hitting a wall with a pickaxe. “Onepu is my best friend in all of onu-koro” he said. Then another image where I heard someone say “Fine, I’ll take you Taipu”.

“So weird” I whispered to myself.

We kept walking and then I heard a rumble in the bushes. Me and my friends were startled. We looked around but we didn’t see anything. We were armed and ready.

“Alright coward, show yourself” I said.

“Uh..guys” Visarra said pointing her shotgun towards a bush.

I walked up to it. I opened it up and saw a humanoid creature with claws, had a long tail, and the pairs of long sharp teeth. It also had a greenish color to its skin, and was very skinny.

“Silvertongues!” Garion and Visarra said.

It jumped towards me roaring. I ducked and it missed me by an inch.

“Silvertongues?” I asked

But before they could answer, I saw my answer. The creature had a huge long tongue that was a silver, and sparkly color.

It charged at me. I knocked it back and It looked dazed.

“Now would be a good time to run”

We ran towards the place we needed to go. But the silvertongues were slightly faster. They kept catching up to us and they seemed to never tire out. We were about to give up until we saw one of the silvertongues fall down. Then we saw a guy in a tree house. We could barely make out what he was saying but it sounded like.

“Get over…now…before they…you”

“We should head to the treehouse” I said.

So off we went towards the treehouse. A few minutes later and we reached the treehouse with only 5 silvertongues on our tail. We had killed 7. we started climbing the ladder as the guy was pulling us up. He pulled the ladder up as we went in. the silvertongues were locked out. We saw them struggling to get in, but apparently they can’t climb. After a few minutes, they gave up and went away. I walked up to the guy and said.

“Hey man, thanks for saving us. We owe you on…”

“Yeah, sure whatever”

We stood there in silence for a while.

“Ok listen were just gonna keep going… so uh, bye” Visarra said.

She was heading for the door, but the man stopped her. And he said.

“Listen here missy, you aint goin’ anywhere with them creatures on yer tail”

“Well what do you think we should do”

“My opinion, I think you should stay here for a whi…”

He stopped. He was looking at something. He was looking at Visarra’s shotgun.

“Uhh..oookaaaay, why are you looking at my gun”

“You really messed it up”

“well yeah I needed to hit those silvertongues with it ,so of course its going to crack”

“Listen, yer not just playin’ with darn little toy, yer holdin’ a W1200 pump shotgun in your hands”

It went kinda back and forth like that, but long story short we ended up staying overnight with him. He layed some extra beds on the floor and we slept in his ‘highly protected’ treehouse. We gave him our weapons because he wanted to fix them for us. Apparently he’s a weapon maker. So off to bed we went. It didn’t seem to matter we were sleeping in an old guys treehouse. At least we can finally get some rest.

Maybe this isn’t so bad.
