Sleep Disarming

I woke up this morning and thought it was 11:45, which meant that I slept through my alarm and missed my 9:30 class. Oh well, I guess I'll just go back to sleep (which would be crazy at that time of morning, maybe), but first let me turn my phone's alarm for 9:00 because I don't need it on anymore, right?

Um...so I wake up at 9:17 according to my clock and that gives me just enough time to change and go to the bathroom. (And grab a poptart and fill a bottle with water.)

What just happened here?

I turned off my alarm and continued sleeping. Rather, I "woke up," turned my alarm off, and slept.

This isn't the first time that has happened.

Except last time, it went off at 8:30 and I turned it off in my sleep (though I also remember turning it off while it went off) and my roommate and I didn't wake up for our 10 o'clock class until 10 thanks to a friend calling. (We got to class ten minutes late.) We missed our 9 o'clock class, obviously.

This is probably why it's good to try to get a full 8 hours of sleep. So you don't do crazy things in a half-awake state.

LOL.

I sometimes wonder what goofy things I do in my sleep...I know one time when i was in Canada for 4 months on the evening I got back home I went straight to bed. Apparently I woke up at night on the first floor, went downstairs, actually ASKED my grandma who happened to be awake where the bathroom was (though I know the house inside out) , used that and went back to sleep on the couch. The next morning I woke up and had NO recollection of the night whatsoever, I just went nuts over how i got from the first floor down into the livingroom.

Very true. I hate being half asleep; you still have a strong desire to continue sleeping, and you're kind of... confused. You don't really know what you're doing or what's going on, and you kind of do stuff haphazardly, like in your situation. Because you were half asleep, you fiddled around with your alarm clock wrong, and you were almost late. Weird how things can happen like that.

That's why I always make it hard for me to turn off my alarm. Like I have to disable the mousetrap first or something.

Only after a few nights of each particular alarm setting, my half-asleep state figures out how to disable/ignore the alarms and go back to sleep. I try heaps of stuff, like moving the alarm(s) to hard to reach places with alarm tones I haven't used in a while, but it never has a 100% guarantee to work.

The one method that does work for me is my cats.
