The Project

Hello, my fellow BZPers and bloggers. Today I'd like to post some plans and information on a fanfic crossover that Tahu: Spirit of the Mist and I were planning on writing but just recently scrapped for reasons that we will go into below. With permission from Tahu I am now going to post what little we had planned and why we are not going to be working on it anymore:

"The Project," as I later dubbed it, was first proposed to me by Tahu: Spirit of the Mist on September 28, 2009. His basic premise was the characters from my fanfic series, the Shika Trilogy, would meet the characters from his own epic, The Mask of Dimensional Gates. I agreed to it and we began planning as soon as possible. We decided that we would write it sometime later on, since we were a bit busy with our other writing projects at the moment, but we were determined to write it just the same.

However, due to my later lack of interest in the Project and Tahu's own decling interest in BIONICLE itself we dropped the Project a few days ago. We will not write it, nor will we do any planning on it in the future. It's a bit of a shame, really, but for reasons mentioned above there was no reason to continue planning. So now I will reveal some actual plot information on it, with a summary provided by Tahu:

Toa are mostly scarce within the universe.

Xhin dispatches the Toa Naram (Jaagand, Jualsan, Nolka, Bahlka, Kerah, and Tavra) on a mission in the jungle south of Coryuga, for there had been a lot of strange things happening there. So they go there, where they find a pool of purplish liquid. The pool is glowing from the bottom. Nolka uses her Elda in order to find out what the glow is, but finds nothing but a light. So, the Toa leave it alone. They try to go around it. However, before they can, it erupts, grabs them, and pulls them under.

Just as they go underneath the surface, they find themselves in a small Matoran village. Strangely, many of the village huts have been set aflame, with many villagers fleeing. They enter the village, weapons drawn, and find 5 Toa (the Shika) fighting two beings. The Shika successfully fight the beings off, and then Addis sees the Naram, the latter of whom are all wearing cloaks. The Toa Shika then mistake the Naram as being evil. However, they are corrected, and Jaagand decides to ask who the two beings were. Addis replies saying that they were "just about the world's biggest problem: Drighkens."

It was myself who gave an explanation for how the Toa Naram and Toa Shika could meet without contradicting either of our stories, considering the very different situations our characters were currently in:

The Project would have taken place in an entirely separate continuity from the Shika Trilogy and The Mask of Dimensional Gates, but would have shared the same characters from both universes. That way, the Toa Naram could have met the Toa Shika without having to go into a lengthy explanation as to how this is possible, and vice versa. Solves a lot of plot issues with both of our epics very easily IMO.

Some information on what the Drighkens, the primary antagonists of the Project, are, courtesy of their creator, Tahu: Spirit of the Mist, as well as some other information regarding the Project's plot:

"Drighken" was the name of the Toa Karda of Ice in one of my old stories. He had turned evil, gone through many different mutations, and then, after a while, he became good again. He was the ruler of Tahyungusta, and even killed one of his teammates (Kerahn, whose name was then spelled "K-e-r-a-n").

In this universe, Drighkens are are the Tahyungustans who worshipped Drighken, the Toa. After a while, they became a tribe of primitive, thin and tall humanoids who have long, slender heads, and carry crude blades and spears as weaponry. However, despite their poor tools, they know how to use them so that even someone like Brutaka wouldn't be able to beat them. They where black plating, and have beady, yellow eyes beneath the small eyeholes of their helmets. They speak Matoran very poorly, but they excel like no other at the language Drighken himself used.

As for the Toas' cloaks--They were given them by Xhin, yes, in order to be more easily camouflaged in the jungle.

As for Nonzra's death--You stole the words right out of my mouth. He was killed by the Drighkens.

We never got around to giving the Project a proper name because at the time we couldn't think of a good title for it, so we went with the placeholder - and now, I suppose, official name for it - the Project. I did suggest that the title could be "Star Protectors," but since that was at the point where we had no plot we scrapped it and eventually ended up with the Project. I am sure, if we had continued, we would have given it a proper title, but since we have scrapped the idea it will simply be known as the Project.

Our basic idea on actually writing it was that we would have alternatively written chapters and post them on a weekly basis. For example, I would write Chapter 1, then Tahu would write Chapter 2, I do Chapter 3, etc. That way we would both have gotten a chance to write it equally and we would be sure to avoid continuity issues by sending each other the latest chapter via PM so we can edit or write off it. Tahu did suggest that we could do two separate epics, but we went with the idea of one epic with two authors instead.

We really didn't plan a whole lot, which was probably for the best, since we eventually scrapped it anyway. I'm glad we didn't start it and then abandon it, because I hate writing unfinished stories unless I have to work on something else first, so that's one good thing to come out of it.
