Generally, randomness sells (only you don't get any money from it). I don't know what it is, but a twenty-second entry about llamas doing the hula is guaranteed to get more comments than a half-hour entry about an everyday visit to Hawaii. Unless you met the hula-dancing llamas in Hawaii.

And participation helps, too. If you have content blocks which invites members to contribute, such as a Spam Museum or a list of crazy signatures, members get interested in wanting to help.

Sporky/Dok sometimes blogs lists of questions, such as "How tall are you?" or "What's your favorite emoticon?" People love answering questions about themselves.

Or, you could do what Mad Dog Turahk did and fill your blog with cool pictures of BoA.
