The Doctor's Note

The Doctor’s Office just called somehow last night I left my TV on so whenever the phone rang the caller ID would show up. I was awake and just sitting in bed when the call came through, my mom answered the phone. Of course, on her way bringing the phone to me she tried to persuade them into telling her, “Well can’t you just tell me, I’m his mother.”

She opened my door and said the Doctor’s was on the phone and handed it over. It wasn’t actually the Doctor himself, but one of his office/nurse/assistants. She said she had a message from him for me and I said okay, so she started explaining:

“Doctor Bowman got the results from your Upper GI and Small Bowel Follow Through (AKA the test I had and blogged about Monday.) Everything came back good and the Crohn’s is in your small bowel. He said you can lower your dosage on your medicine to two times a day. He also wants you to have some routine blood work; we can send you the paperwork in the mail.”

I was just saying okay, okay, okay, etc. Towards the end my mom was going ‘you need to tell her she can tell me.’ Then the lady started talking about that…

“You need to give me permission to tell your Mom this information or you can just tell her yourself.” I just said okay and handed the phone over, although I wish I had just told her myself.

For some reason, in my family whenever something gets repeated it gets changed. I don’t know if it is like that with everyone but when I repeat information, I always do my best to say it as it is. For example, if I was telling someone how remake a Toa Mata, I wouldn’t tell them to use a six length rod for the leg connectors. If I was telling someone how to make a cake I wouldn’t say use three eggs instead of one. If I was re-telling a story I would stay as accurate as possible, sure I might paraphrase but I wouldn’t change the details of the story itself.

The first thing my mom did after the lady told her what she told me, was call and tell someone what they said.

“He said the Crohn’s is still active and he can take one less dose of medicine a day.”

They never said anything about it being active or in remission, even if it was active or in remission, the Crohn’s is still going to be there no matter what. My small bowel is thickened and shows the signs of the disease, unless something short of a miracle happens, my bowel is going to look like that always. And they didn’t say I could take one less dose of my medicine, they said I could take two doses a day. I currently take two pills four times a day, so now I can just take two pills twice a day. I don’t know if I’m just better at repeating things or what, but it gets on my nerves when people turn things into he said, she said, they said that is inaccurate.

I shouldn’t try and be a downer though. My paranoia was all for nothing and I should be glad with the news I got. Everything is as it is, and I’m going to be taking less medicine. It doesn’t look like he’s going to be weaning me off it entirely anytime soon though; I guess taking less is better than nothing. So there’s nothing new to be worried about and everything is good. I just have to go get a regular blood test to make sure the medicine isn’t affecting me and I go back to the Doctor in six months for another check up. By the looks of it, I won’t see the doctor again until January 2011 unless something changes but hopefully nothing does.
