Terra: Quick R T S Idea

Inspired by a phone commercial of all things.

This game would probably work like a typical RTS, where different buildings give you different units, you gather resources, etc. For example, a port would give you nautical units, an airfield would give you aerial units, a barracks gives you infantry, a garage/stable gives you land vehicles/animals, etc. The game takes place on a planet called Terra, colonized by humans sometime in the future, year PE 1017 (post exodus). You take command of a faction of the colonists, armed with your own unique units, buildings, etc. Each faction occupies a seperate technological era, so you can have space marines slugging it out with mobsters, or knights and wizards up against an army of pirates. I envision ten to twenty nations with a unique set of units and buildings each, every one occupying a different point in Earth space/time.

However, the unique ability of this game is the capability to alter the landscape at will. Grow mountain ranges to block of that enemy's tanks! lower the landscape to avoid airbursting firebombs! Erupt a volcano in the midst of a heated battle!

Now this terraforming ability would be be powered by a regenerating resource, preventing you from doing too much at once. It would also be restricted to wherever you have line of sight, as it wouldn't be fair to immediately create a volcanic eruption in the enemy base. Certain factions would also be able to command certain landscape features better than others. For example, a faction based off of, say, 17 and 18th century pirates may be able to grow islands and seas faster, but might be very bad with volcanoes or canyons.

Just an idea, never to actually happen in all likelihood
