Mearhghreumgerfug. There. Needed to get that outta my system. So. PBZP's. Stands for Project Bionicle Zone Power. In essence, where you sculpt a likeness of a BZP member. But, I have been seeing some things about it that irritate me. Maybe this is me being narrow minded, but when people PBZP any old member, it irritates me to no end. Because in the end, all they do is first, PBZP the *drum roll* admins! Of course? If you're gonna have people in your list, why not do the most important people on the site? That'll get ye popular, right? Sure totally. I PBZP and admin, they promote me, s'all good. Except it doesn't work that way. Then people say "oh hey look who's in my PBZP. All the important people! And others!" and they get to finish off a PBZP line too. I don't even know if this is how PBZP's work, but in my mind, people have to ask you to be in your PBZP line. They didn't ask for it. They have no prior knowledge as to it's coming. They can say, "oh yeh, thanks" but in the end, they didn't ask for it. They had no control over it. So in the end, I can build 26 MoC's, slap some random BZPower member names on there, and be done with it. Now, MoCing people you know, that's different. They can be friends, or aquaintences, or you can have true inspiration to MoC someone. But slapping on names is different. It defeats the soul of the PBZP line. In my opinion. So yeh. Thats me letting of some steam. I encourage people to share their opinions on said matter, but if this turns into a flaming contest, I'll have to lock it. Then again, I approve all comments on this anyhow. So please, feel free to share your opinions on this matter, but remember. I control everything you say. Muhaha.

Yeah, especially when said member hasn't been on in over two years.>_<

Ah, Tigs and him PBZPing YamiYugi, yeh? I know. It irrtates me so.

It's pretty annoying, especially when the MOCist doesn't seem to have asked the member what they want to look like.

Exactly! Defeats the soul of it all, I tell ya... This is why I put "PM me" in the line...

I agree, pbzp lines are meant to take time, I've completed my own pbzp line, and I'm the second person to be engaged in a pbzp-2 line, I know how the system works, and unfortunately, many members don't. And that is unfortunate. Multiple members for one letter toting C, C2, etc. No, just no. You finish one line before posting the same letter again.

It's disappointing really. -_-

Quote from Turakii's PM to me about PBZPs:

A PBZP (Personal Bionicle Zone Power, or Personal BZP) is when a member makes creations out of Bionicle pieces in the form of what he thinks another member would look like. You can do the entire alphabet, usually. For example, A for Angry Nidhiki, B for BugBoy, C for Clataclism...
He said you can do somebody how he looks like, but it irritates me when what somebody did is a really distorted, thrown up MOC. It would be better for everyone if there would be rules on PBZPs, but would not restrain on how to make them. Maybe a rule how to plan PBZPs.

No, you weren't trying to offend anybody, but it inadvertedly happens. It irritates me, because the member in question has not been on for 2 years. They didn't ask you to PBZP them, and couldn't care less if you did. You did it so you could finish the line. Which isn't the point of the line at all. The point of line is to sculpt a likeness of the recepients choosing. They didn't choose. "The problem, is choice"- The Architect, Matrix Reloaded

While being guilty of that crime myself (^^') I agree. I'm glad I have people on my side...

Huh... mebbe someone should PM Tufi, and we can make a topic like that. I disagree with Tuhrakii about the bit about what you think a member should look like. Glad to see people agreeing with me ^_^. It makes me feel less wrong.

I'm glad that people support me on this, Tigs I know you don't try to annoy people when you do it without someone's permission it ticks someone off like a clock which you twist the hands yourself. I do hope this settles down before it gets out of hand. A topic about the PBZP line seems like a good Idea, especially for new members.

You aren't wrong, as far as I'm concerned, your viewpoint is the correct viewpoint.

As for my own pbzp line, some members I asked what they wanted to look like, other mocs I made them in secret. As long as you have a good idea of how to make the member appear incarnate in plastic, you're good.

Ah, excellent. I might PM Tufi about that, see what can be done... soon as I stop being lazy...

^_^ Being right is fun. I agree, nothing thrown together constitutes a PBZP.

As far as I'm concerned, only two (or was it three?) people have finished a PBZP. Shan and Mikerahk. They put time and effort into their MOCs, and for the most part followed these "guidlines" you stated (Which are pretty much true). Most members now who do a "PBZP" just make an effortless MOC (Good example being Mike's FSS) and slap on a name. Sometimes they ask, yes, but unless they put time and effort... Just no.

And they do that because, for whatever reason, they think that if they finish a PBZP line they'll be cool 'n stuff 'cause "not many people have." (And, again, to me, that's still true)

I'm going to take this point by point.

Because in the end, all they do is first, PBZP the *drum roll* admins!

I don't see how this is wrong. The Admins have kept this site running long and well. What's wrong with gratitude? It's not like they haven't deserved it.

If you're gonna have people in your list, why not do the most important people on the site? That'll get ye popular, right?

That's not how I see it at all. The only way you get 'popular' on BZP is to continually release somewhat quality MOCs. Because in the end (unless we're reffering to a BBC contest), people are going to like a MOC that's interesting that a name. And if you do it often enough, your name becomes synonymous with your style of MOCing. If you release five good MOCs and 21 stinkers, yeah people will post in your topic(s), but you'll be forgotten in less than a month.

I PBZP and admin, they promote me, s'all good. Except it doesn't work that way.

You're right. It doesn't work. So why would someone attempt a form of obvious flattery knowing it's destined to fail?

Then people say "oh hey look who's in my PBZP. All the important people! And others!"

I'm pretty sure that when most people attempt to form a PBZP line, they tend to admire or respect the people they choose to represent. They just don't select a member at random. They'll pick a member that has had some sort of impact on their stay at BZP.

But what if you wanted to surprise a friend with a PBZP? Or acknowledge a staff member, but are too shy or nervous to out right ask them? I had a PBZP planned long ago before I was a staffer, and I was terrified to ask some of the Staff I wanted to portray.

Additionally, I've been MOCed before. Not asked either. The MOC didn't come out to represent me in ways I thought it should. However, I was still greatful for the effort and time. And if some people can't appreciate that sort of gratitude, maybe it's not the MOCer's fault.

Now, MoCing people you know, that's different. They can be friends, or aquaintences, or you can have true inspiration to MoC someone. But slapping on names is different. It defeats the soul of the PBZP line. In my opinion.

Again, I don't believe someone'll just take a name at random and celebrate them. They're more likely to choose someone who has done something in the past to make BZP memorable for them.

I have nothing against showing gratitude to the admins. I have issues with the fact that the people PBZP admins because they have some crazy idea that it will get them in good favor with our lords and masters. I think that's wrong.

As stated below, surprising a friend, all fine and dandy. If you perhaps want to surprise an Admin, yeh, thats cool. But all of them? Seems a little over the top.

Again, I highly doubt it. Let's take Tigs last PBZP. Xemnix. As apparent by his post here, he didn't seem to happy about it. I doubt Xemnix made BZP special for Tigs.

Thanks on that last quote, all I was trying to do was make a moc of him, and someone even told me he likes to be pbzped, and I got nothing showing that he was happy, he just told me the negative stuff, and it hurt.

I didn't mind anyone saying that the line was thrown together, I see how that has happened, and I'm taking all that advice (look at the one I have made for my new line, big improvement) I just wish that when I pbzp someone that I get some good stuff to. (and I didn't know you were supposed to ask them if they wanted to be pbzped) and I still got blamed.

Link to comment

Ugh. I find myself rather ashamed to have started these controversies.

The point of PBZP was to honor BZP members, but have a little more order about it. Yes, it is usually customary and polite to ask the advice of the member who is being MOC'd. And I can't say I like most of Tigs' MOCs in his PBZP.

But beyond the basic 26 member idea, I was completely unaware of any real requirements. It's however you want to interpret the member. If your idea is a Neo-Matoran, that's fine. Usually I like to make something more personal and intricate as a representation. If another member doesn't do the same thing, it's their choice.

And as far as members meaning something to the MOCist... At some point, you're gonna run out of friends with the letters of the alphabet. I know very few X's on BZPower; Xemnix and xccj are the two that only two that immediately come to mind.

There are more arguments in here too, but I don't wanna get into all the ins and outs of BZP popularity. I'm sick of hearing preaching on that subject. >.<

I'm not making a rule for this.

Honestly, Makaru's already brought up just about all the points I could make. You seem to be solidly convinced that people only ever build admins/staff to flatter them: I can't exactly say I've seen overwhelming evidence that this is the case 100% of the time. Sometimes people want to make MOCs in tribute of other members: generally, tribute is a far different beast from 'look at this wonderful MOC I made of you you beautiful thing eh eh eh'. Sometimes people just want to surprise their friends. This is no crime, and it won't become one.

Just because someone posts a whole bunch of MOCs you see as sub-par is no reason to get on their case. It's not your place to chew them out. If you think there's a problem with someone, then PM myself or any of the other BBC staff and we'll examine the situation ourselves.

Thanks a ton tufi, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong with surprise pbzps, it does feel like I've been put down a whole lot in the past week, it just hurts.

But what about in Tigs' PBZP line, it has two MOCs without anybody repesenting them? He keeps on pressing that he can do anything he wants in his PBZP, but isn't that wrong? I told him that PBZPs are for BZP members, not some other thing from out of the blue, but he ignores it. Is it wrong to do something else except BZP members in a PBZP?

Ah, geez, it hadn't been intented to be so controversial. I wasn't trying to chew anyone out, I just wanted to see whether people agreed with me or not. Some people do, some people don't. Tigs, I have no disrespect for you, but the way you achieved your PBZP line irritated me a little. I just wanted to see how my point was taken. Not too well, apparently. I think I'll probably lock this. Untitled: Yes, it is technically wrong, but if you want to pursue that... yeh. I dunno. Sorry if I myself offended anyone... I think this might be how Mihkerek felt about the FSS... but really, sorry. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
