A New Direction
I've begun to think I should write The Beginning of the End in a style similar to One Piece; that is, while the story is overall serious, it's not afraid to point out or emphasis just how bizarre some of the characters, situations, locations, and weapons/objects are (when appropriate, of course).
Just think about it. I am writing a story set in a world where the YGO monsters all exist. Think about how crazy a world where wizards, dragons, robots, warriors of various types, insects, Eldritch Abominations, and various other equally bizarre things live must be. I usually write pretty serious stories (although I do throw in some humor when it makes sense), but I am thinking TBotE might just work better written like OP. Not exactly like OP, of course, but I feel the story might justify being written similarly to OP because of the sheer bizarreness of the general concept.
Not that I am in any way comparing my work to the awesomeness that is One Piece (I don't know if I'll ever become as good a writer as Eiichiro Oda is, personally). I am simply wondering if this story would work better as a more humorous though still serious story, similar to OP. It'd be different from my usual style, but I've always enjoyed OP's humor and perhaps could try it out in TBotE, at least for the first draft, just to see if it'll work.
Thoughts on the subject, if you have any at all?
