Server strain. That's actually the same concept behind post flood control - you can type a legit post in under thirty seconds.

I can indeed type a legit post in under thirty seconds. I regularly get the flood control notice two different times in one thirty seconds. But enough boasting

if you made a bot to search a bunch of times in a row, you'd make the server explode.

B6 doesn't like cleaning up after 'sploded servers. Nobody does.

They are somewhat messy.

From what I understand, searching strains the server because it has to turn it's attention from letting people post and stuff to searching it's massive storage space for whatever you want. If one where to rapidly search a dozen different terms, then the server would shut down briefly from the overload. So thus BZP quits working for a little while until it completes the requests or times out.

This being the reason searching use to be a premier member only thing.
