If your friend is your age, then no. It is too dark and gritty compared to the lightness of SG-1 and SGA. If he is midway through high school, then I think he should give it a chance. (Warn him that it is unlike SGA and SG-1 in style and storytelling, but after episode 10 it gets better.)
