okay this is something that's been on my mind for awhile now and i think it's time i finally say it

now this isn't some big farewell about how i'm never going to come back to BZPower ever again or anything but i've seen so many great people just disappear from here without saying a word, and i don't want to leave anyone who might care wondering why i left or what happened to me.

for a long time, the only reason i kept coming back here was because of my friends, but once i was able to find most of them on other websites i just forgot about BZPower almost entirely. there is literally nothing here to keep my interest anymore, and even excluding that all of the drama surrounding this site is just something i don't need or want to deal with anymore.

i'll always have a soft spot for this site - it's where i met most of my internet friends and when i was younger it was great for talking about Bionicle and Lego. but as time went on it seemed as though the mood of this website changed, possibly because everyone was growing up. i used to think of BZP as a really welcoming site with a friendly community, but now it's just barren and the only discussion that really takes place anymore happens in whatever the latest fuss in the blogs is, and even then a lot of the arguments contain thinly-veiled insults and generally just a negative attitude.

there's not a whole lot else to say, really. if you want to find me elsewhere shoot me a PM and i'll get back to you.

and with that, i say goodbye, BZPower. you used to be fun, but now you're just depressing.

but i was bored so i took the 15 minute quiz anyway for anyone who cares

i was expecting that i'd get a True/Lawful Neutral alignment so that's not big surprise and i have absolutely no idea what any of the other stuff means but maybe it tells you a lot about me as a person i dunno you D&D nuts tell me

it's common knowledge that all you have to do to look 1208% more incredibly awesome is to simply wear a trench coat. while there are other items of clothing that can make you look instantly more cool(see: fingerless gloves, scarves, dark sunglasses, sombreros, etc.), none work to the sheer extent of the trench coat, and thusly they need to be appreciated.

yes i'm aware that this blog has turned into a place where literally just post my drawings and stuff about Pokemon WHAT'S YOUR POINT

first off i'm going to show you this old picture of some "ninja worm" fakemon because some of you might remember it. well they've since had a COMPLETE design overhaul. their typing is Ground/Dark, but they still don't have names or anything yet. here they are:

    Ninja Worms

next up i'll show you my Mega Spiritomb drawing from a little while back. all i've done since then is color him in, but i'm still happy with how it came out. the one on the right is supposed to be the shiny form.

    Mega Spiritomb(Colored)

and finally we have a design and concept i've tossed around for a LONG time but never have posted anywhere. the idea behind him is that he was created by Arceus to constantly watch over the world in the event that it becomes corrupt with evil, so that he can then wipe the slate clean and give it a second chance. this is my first legendary fakemon, and he wasn't really based on anything and still doesn't have a name or typing.

    Unnamed Legendary Fakemon

and there you go! i intend to post fakemon updates in this sort of style now, with multiple colored images. next time i'll probably post the new Cathodoom line, so stay tuned for that(ha get it stay tuned and they're televisions oh man i'm so funny).

...but honestly i can't think of much to say about it. 2013, at face value, was a lukewarm year that somehow managed to seem shorter than even 2012. nothing really bad happened, but at the same time nothing really good happened. i could bore you all and talk about how i've matured and grown as a person and how i've learned a lot about myself this year, but WHO CARES ABOUT THAT GARBAGE AM I RIGHT

so i guess i'll just take the cheap way out and say something like "see you next year" or just put "TWO-THOUSAND AND FOURTEEN" in all caps.

(But seriously though I love you guys and I want to wish you all a very happy New Year. I hope you all can spend this time with the ones you love the most and the ones who love you. God bless.)

over one year ago, i posted my very first Fakemon: two gingerbread men named Doughjoy and Gingerdead(soon after renamed to Gingrdread). the original drawing was exceedingly horrible, but i continued to redesign and alter them over the course of 2013. today, i have finished what i believe to be the last version of the duo in the forseeable future, and in recognition of that, i thought it would be a good idea to look back and see how Doughjoy and Gingrdread have changed.

    the original design
where it all began. as i said, this drawing is ridiculously bad, but it did establish several key elements that would carry over to all of the future iterations, such as:
    Doughjoy evolves into a part-Dark type(originally Dark/Normal, later changed to Dark/Fairy)
Doughjoy has a heart shape on his chest, while Gingrdread has an "X"
instead of gumdrop buttons, Gingrdread has skulls
Gingrdread has large section missing from his head, as well as his hands

the second design(ingore the words and stuff(also i know i spelt "pastries" wrong okay))
apparently at the time of drawing this i thought it would be good for them to have eyes that were the size of Texas. their entire design was obviously refined in this image when conpared to the first one. it also introduced Gingrdread's eye scar.

the third design(ignore the words again)
...and in this version i must have thought it would be good for Doughjoy to look insanely creepy. aside from that, this drawing introduced their "gloves" and overall made them much lankier.

    the fourth design(Gingrdread only)
speaking of lankiness, Gingrdread suddenly got extremely tall and thin in this version. i don't really like this one at all; it didn't keep in style with the previous versions, and he didn't really look that much like a gingerbread man anymore. this design was eventually scrapped, and was not used as a reference when drawing their most recent versions.

    the final(?) design(non-colored)
    the final(?) design(colored)
and here we are, over one year and three noteworthy drawings in the making, i give you the most recent, and what i believe to be the best, versions of Doughjoy and Gingrdread yet. the lines are cleaner, the proportions are better, and in the end it all comes together to make a more cohesive and believeable design. but i guess you never really know what the future holds, and thus they may be revisited once again, but for now i'm really happy with these, and i feel comfortable in calling them the finshed product.

it sounds weird, but Doughjoy and Gingrdread will always have a special place in my heart, and not just because they were my first Fakemon. to me, they sort of symbolize my growth as an artist. just comparing the first drawing to the most recent one, it's dramatic seeing how much better i've gotten, and during the time it's taken for me to get to the final designs, i've started digitaly coloring and manipulating images, things i had no idea how to do when i first created these two. i still might not be that great of an artist, but i'm sure as heck a lot better than i was one year ago, and i'm excited to see how i improve next year.

happy holidays from Joshua, AKA Squishy. =)

yes, i said that Sawk was my favorite Fighting type. yes, i said that this series was over. yes, i said that i was starting to like Hitmonlee less and less.

but i was thinking about how unsatisfied i was with choosing Sawk. every other Pokemon on the list i was entirely happy with, but not Sawk. something just didn’t feel right about it. i have no real connection to him, considering i bought White and White 2, where he is virtually unavailable, and in reality he’s just kind of… boring.

Hitmonlee, on the other hand, was the MVP on my most successful RU team(which was still not very successful). he could singlehandedly sweep teams with his Normal Gem+Unburden+Fake Out set. and come on, he’s just too weird to not love with his glaring eyes, stretchy legs and lack of a mouth.

so while this pretty much invalidates everything i did before, i honestly don’t care because this was something that had to be done, and i’ll be able to sleep better tonight knowing that you all know that i know that we know that i do, indeed, like Hitmonlee better than Sawk.

disclaimer: Togekiss is my favorite Fairy type, but i already drew her for day 5, so i drew my second favorite instead.

i liked Spritzee when i first saw her, she was undeniably cute, but i didn’t think of her as anything too special. until, that is, i read about how people thought she was inspired by plague doctors. plague doctors would keep perfumes in their masks to help keep the smell of dead bodies out, and Spritzee is tied to perfume, as well as her face resembling one of their masks greatly. this made me appreciate Spritzee more, because while she was a very cute Pokemon, she had an origin rooted in rather creepy things, and that was interesting to me. plus she looked a bit like a flamingo, and flamingos are really cool. it made me very excited to see what she would evolve into with all that potential, and what do we get?…

one of the most hideous, uninspired Pokemon designs ever, at least in my book. i was so sad that they just threw away all the great potential with plague doctors and whatnot and gave us some abomination that didn’t even remotely resemble a bird anymore. i might go as far as to say that Aromatisse might be my very least favorite Pokemon ever, because even though there might be some designs i like less, they just tossed anything that made Spritzee remotely interesting out the window. but i guess that’s neither here nor there.

and with that, this little series is over. so i ask, did you guys enjoy this? would you be interested in seeing something similar in the future? what was your favorite drawing of mine?

just realized that none of my favorites come from gen 1 or 2, which is strange because i do like a lot of gen 1 and 2 Pokemon. oh well(inb4 “the original Pokemon were the best though”).

ah, i remember when i first saw Honedge. i instantly loved his design. it was just so perfect and so clever the way his sheath made a fake face and his his tassel looked like an arm, plus the way he unsheathed himself was so cool… oh yeah, it was love at first sight. he was so perfect, in fact, that i was scared he would evolve into something lackluster and predictable, like a haunted suit of armor that everyone seemed to want.

well, a few months later they revealed Doublade. i’ll admit, i was a bit disappointed at first, considering they literally just stuck two Honedge together and made them pink. but over time, his(their?) design grew on me once i realized that “one Honedge = cool, so two Honedge = twice as cool? also pink is an awesome color so”.

and then, as fate would have it, i was spoiled by a leaked picture of Aegislash. and i was really quite dissatisfied with his design. it took away everything i loved about Honedge and Doublade. instead of a sheath that cleverly made a false face, it just had a shield, and its disguised tassel arm now was two straight-up arms, complete with elbows. it just… wasn’t the same.

but i found myself coming back to that photo, and each time i did that i warmed up to Aegislash more and more. and eventually i ended up loving him just as much as his previous forms, and even more now(i think what sealed the deal was his adorable eating animation in Pokemon-Amie)

well that was a boring story sorry about that

disclaimer: Tyrantrum is my favorite Dragon type, and Zygarde is my second favorite, but i already drew them for other types.

i’ll be honest here and say that Garchomp isn’t entirely my third favorite Dragon type. indeed, he shares that spot with another Pokemon, Latios. i was originally going to draw both of them and post them together but Garchomp took a long time to draw and Latios was proving to be a pain and i realized that if i were to draw both of them that i would have to delay this for a day, and i didn’t really want to do that. i probably like Garchomp a little bit better than Latios anyway.

as for why i like Garchomp, well, just look at this thing. it’s a freaking land shark that can fly and is also a dragon and it doesn’t get much manlier than that. he’s a bit more of a conventional choice compared to some other Pokes on this list but i don’t care lol.

well, here's the obvious one lol. you don't even really have to know me at all and you can guess that Cofagrigus is my favorite Pokemon, seeing as he's my avatar on here and several other sites.

so, what about Cofagrigus makes him my favorite Pokemon? the answer is simple: everything. no, seriously, everything. i love his Pokedex entries about how he "punishes" grave robbers, i love using him competitively, i loved using him in-game, i love his cry, and i LOVE LOVE LOVE his design. for me, it doesn't get much cooler than an Egyptian coffin with four shadow arms, a mask that bears the face of when they were human, piercing red eyes, and a terrifying smile. all they need to do is give him a Mega Evolution in Pokemon Z and i can die happy.

if you ask me, Snorunt is one of the cutest Pokemon ever. the way they constantly shiver and look like they’re cold, well, it just makes me want to cuddle up with one lol. i can just imagine a group of them huddling up together in a cave or something, keeping each other warm. sadly, it seems not a lot of people find Snorunt as cute as i do, but i guess he’s not as conventionally cute as, say, Eevee.

UGH CHANDELURE IS A PAIN TO DRAW. it took my like five tries to get something i was pleased with and even then i’m not crazy how this came out but w/e

i’ve always liked Chandelure, even from the moment i saw him. he’s suitably creepy, but also manages to be very cute. i also really like the progression from candle > lamp > chandelier. really i just seem to end up liking a lot of the “inanimate object” Pokemon that people love to hate, like Klefki, the Drifloon line and heck, even the oft-dreaded ice-cream Pokemon.

i used to not like Togekiss at all. i thought it was dumb looking and when i started to play UU on Pokemon Showdown i realized that its paraflinch set was the worst thing ever and i hated it even more.

then, one day, i was creating a new UU team but i couldn’t decide on a last member. i looked and looked until finally, i settled on Togekiss. specifically, its bulky Nasty Plot set. it only took a few battles until i realized how incredible this thing was. i honestly can’t tell you how many times Togekiss saved me when the odds were stacked in my opponent’s favor.

guess that, somehow, when i saw her competitive worth, her design started to grow on me as well. and now she’s my favorite Flying type and Fairy type, too.

also i know i said hands were the worst thing to draw but i lied; wings are the worst thing to draw

lampreys have the creepiest mouths in the world, which makes them both extremely awesome and extremely scary. while Eelektrik and Eelektross(both of which are also awesome) are more straight-up lampreys, Tynamo manages to have the mouth, while also being RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE. seriously he’s so cute and i don’t normally say that about anything fish-like.

sorry about the relatively boring drawing today, but there’s only so many things you can do with Tynamo to make him interesting.

(btw if you haven’t noticed i’ve been drawing the types in the order they’re listed on Bulbapedia. so if you really care that much you can see what order i’ll be drawing the types in ahead of time I KNOW EXCITING RIGHT)

remember how i said Chandelure was a pain to draw? well Deoxys is about fifteen times worse. seriously, it took me like ten tries for me to get something i was even remotely happy with, and even then this drawing has so many obvious flaws(giant head ahoy).

while i like all of the Deoxys forms, his Standard form is my favorite as far as appearance goes. it has something to do with his face, i think. i also think it’s cool how he changes his DNA strand arms into actual arms, which is something his other forms apparently can’t do. he also has one of the best themes in Pokemon, imo.

question: what’s the first thing that you think of when you hear the word “fossils”? for me, and i’m sure many others, it’s dinosaurs. apparently that’s not the case for Game Freak though, because it took them until the fourth generation to make fossil Pokemon based off of dinosaurs, and until the sixth before they made one based off of inarguable champion of dinosaurs when it comes to popularity, the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

but boy, was the wait worth it. they literally could not have made a better T. Rex Pokemon. he looks like a fat and greedy king, complete with crown, while also appearing extremely ferocious. both of those are qualities that a good T. Rex needs to have, and they captured them both perfectly in one of my favorite designs of all time.

we’re halfway through! also a bit of trivia: this is the first Legendary to appear on this list.

today, i bring you Zygarde, a new legendary Pokemon from X and Y. thus far, Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde are my favorite legendary trio to date. all of their designs are really cool, and i love how they’re based on the Nordic myth of Yggdrasil, while also incorporating the X, Y and Z axes, which fit their respective habitats(it’s also extremely fitting because these are the first Pokemon games in full 3D). it’s all really clever and all i wish is that the mythology behind these three is fleshed out a little bit more in the inevitable Z version.

more on Zygarde itself, the main reason i like it is just how alien it is. the sporadically flashing lights, the weird tombstone-things on its back, the utter lack of any relatable face or even eyes… it just feels very distant and inhuman unlike other Pokemon who lack human qualities or features. and something about that makes it really cool to me.
