Turaga (7/293)

  1. *** Toa Onua Nuva scanned the horizon watchfully. Internally, he was meditating. He was worried about the team he had sent to find the Great Beings - it had been many days since their departure and he'd heard no word from them. He was resting near the body of the fallen Great Spirit Robot. He had chatted with the Toa Hagah as they had worked to evacuate Rahi, but Gali had sent that team off to find the Mahri, who had apparently been missing for several weeks. Then Gali herself had left for New Atero - he had heard that negotiations there between the Agori and the Matoran were going poorly, and Tahu had asked for her help. They'd come back briefly and he'd heard Pohatu and Kopaka discussing with them the possibility that Lesovikk had broken the Toa code. Then they had left again, and so he was alone. This Onua had seen. He had kept quiet, for the most part. He was not sure how he could help. The sun's bright light had partially blinded his eyes, which were accustomed to the dark tunnels of Onu-Koro, and he had found himself with little to do. So he waited, and he watched. There was a noise behind him and he spun. In front of him stood a gold-and-white being; it had clearly emerged from the giant robot. For a moment, he thought it might be Takanuva. But no, this being looked more like - "Teridax!" Onua bellowed, leaping to his feet, his shield and Ghostblaster aimed. Truth be told, he was confused. The last time had had seen armor like that was in Teridax's lair deep inside Mata Nui. And then, it had been blackened and rusted - now it shined brilliantly in the light. And he also knew deep in his heart that against Teridax he stood no chance. Even Takanuva, the bastion of light who wore a weapon specifically designed to kill Makuta, had never been able to finish Teridax off. "Yes, that is my name. But I am not the Teridax that you know." The being in front of him spoke gravely and solemnly. He was reminded, for some reason, of a Turaga. "Some weeks ago, a Matoran of your universe crossed into mine. He brought me back here to combat the darkness that had taken hold of your Teridax. I was attempting to destroy him, but it appears someone beat me to the chase." Onua looked at Teridax and slowly lowered his weapons. "Alright. I'll believe you for the moment. But make one wrong move and I will destroy you." "I'm not here to fight you. But when I was in that robot, your Teridax pitted several shadow Toa against me. They had come from alternate universes and had been corrupted by shadow leeches for use against Toa. But Mazeka has told me that in your universe one Toa of Light still exists." Onua sighed and nodded. "Yes. Takanuva. After the Great Spirit left us, he went scouting. He came back and said he'd found something dangerous that he wanted to destroy. He went that way - " Onua pointed, "three days ago. I was considering searching for him when you arrived." "No need. I will find him. Thank you for your assistance, Toa Onua."Onua chuckled. "You know, you couldn't be further from our Teridax. You any good with that stick of yours?" In reply, Teridax shattered a nearby rock into dozens of pieces with a blast of concentrated light. Onua winced. "Glad to have you on our side." "It is an honor to serve Mata Nui." With that, Teridax strode off into the desert towards Takanuva's location. Onua shrugged and resumed meditating. And then he felt a surge of intense pain and collapsed to the ground. His weapons fell from his limp hands and his face buried into the sand. He'd felt this sensation before but before he could place where his eyes closed and he slipped mercifully into unconsciousness.
  2. i'm a bit confused. so we won't be looking into the journeys of orde/chiara/zanni and kopaka/pohatu, then? they'll be addressed offscreen? doesn't look like you'll be following velika's story, at the least... seeing as how he stuffed the bomb into a box and directly blew it up in the fortress, effectively ignoring what happened in PtB. dang, little guy's fast. missing a punctuation mark at the end of this sentence. Thanks for the review, I really appreciate it. What I meant is that I won't directly show what Onua's team and Kopaka/Pohatu are up to, at least not at the start, because A) I don't know enough about the Red Star and Kabrua to do so and B) I I really really dislike how Greg handled Onua's team (especially the gender roles, that was disgusting, but that's for another topic) so I don't want to have to write them. They may make an appearance later on but they won't be main characters for sure. Velika's story, on the other hand, is going to be central to this. He and TSO will be the main new villains now that Teridax is dead. We won't see from his perspective much (can you imagine making the Great Beings POV characters? that'd be a nightmare) but he'll definitely be causing all sorts of mayhem. I also intend to include many, many more characters than have already appeared; I'm writing this story in an attempt to give closure to the characters I've grown to love. I'll definitely fix that grammatical issue now. Thanks for the input, and I hope I won't disappoint you!
  3. It's possible that they waded through water before reaching the location of the fortress, thus making it an island. Of course, that's purely speculation. It's just that this seems to be the only fortress around. Again, wading is possible. I guess I assumed it was an island because it's on Aqua Magna - it could very well be connected to the mainland Spherus Magna though. There's the possibility as previously mentioned that Onua or some other Earth Toa removed part of the land, but that seems like quite a stretch. The Lifer's fortress? What story was this in?
  4. Review Topic Toa Helryx was out of her depth. It was not a sensation she had felt in a long, long time. She had led the Order of Mata Nui, a secret organization of powerful beings devoted to Mata Nui’s service, for thousands of years. In that time she had fought off a hundred crises. She knew how to lead. But now Mata Nui was gone. And she was without a guiding light. Without a duty. Without a destiny. Before her stood something of tremendous power. A Great Being. She had heard rumors of such creatures in the past, but she had never believed them. How could something be more powerful than Mata Nui himself? And yet…here the being was, chained in a tower somewhere in Bota Magna. Powerless. She was trying not to look at it; its chains writhed as if they were Bog Snakes. Miserix’s first thought had been to free the Great Being. Undoubtedly he planned to turn the thing into his ally…or more likely, his slave. She would not allow that to happen. They had been betrayed by the Brotherhood one too many times. "No. It stays here until we learn more." "I do not take orders from Toa," Miserix spat. “I will do as I please." "I am not a Toa, not anymore. I am a servant of Mata Nui." "So was I, once. Long ago." His eyes turned wistful. “And for my devotion, I was locked away for thousands of years. My Brotherhood stolen from me and twisted into a vehicle of destruction. Where was Mata Nui when I lost everything for him?" "The Great Spirit does not interfere directly. You know that." "Which explains why he abandoned us the minute Teridax was killed." It was true. They had all felt his presence disappear. It had been, in truth, a weight off her shoulders. She had been burdened with command for far too long. Next to her, the others were speaking hurriedly. Brutaka and Axonn were obviously sizing up the being. She could trust them if it came to fighting - she hoped. Vezon was watching disinterestedly; there weren’t any explosions, so he wouldn’t care. Tuyet was most worrisome. She had, in the past, broken her Toa code to exploit an object of great power. She might do it again. She sent a mental message - the Order had all been trained to do this - to Axonn and Brutaka. Get her out of here. They nodded simply, and then Brutaka opened a small dimensional gate. Before Tuyet could reach, she was standing out in the jungle. Content that she would pose no threat for the time being, Helryx again turned her attention to Miserix. "We make no moves on the Great Being until we can summon reinforcements. Is that understood?" She glared at him, challenging him to disobey. The Brotherhood and the Order had never been the closest of allies, even before Miserix was deposed. He glared back, but nodded. slowly. Satisfied, Helryx was about to speak to Brutaka when there was a pounding on the wall. She shook her head. Tuyet was trying to get back in. “Don’t let her in." "Wait." Axonn spoke for the first time since they’d left the Great Spirit robot. He strode over to the wall purposefully and with one powerful swing shattered it. Outside stood a small brown Matoran. “You’re Velika, aren’t you? You Voya Nui Matoran are always getting yourselves into trouble, aren’t you?" From the back of the cell, the Great Being, who had not spoken at all while they argued, began to laugh. A sinister, evil laugh. But he said nothing. Axonn looked back and forth between the two of them. “Why did you come, Velika?" Velika bowed his head and handed over a small gift. It was a box that seemed to be glowing, inscribed with strange symbols. Axonn took it and held it close to his chest. "What is it?" He asked. But Velika merely turned and walked away into the jungle. There was no sign of Tuyet. They all stepped closer to the box, intrigued. What was it? Axonn began to feel something in his chest. The box was heating up. He looked at it. Something was changing. "No!" He yelled, and leaped away from them, curling into a ball around the box as it unleashed a wave of energy. The others in the room were thrown away painfully. Only the Great Being was unmoved. Brutaka rose to his feet first. He ran over to Axonn. The axe-wielding warrior lay on the ground. At first he thought his friend was dead, but then Axonn opened his eyes. "Listen to me." "There isn’t time for that. I have to get you to the healers." He prepared to use his Kanohi Olmak. "Too late. Listen, brother. Velika did this. Find out why and stop him before he allows anyone else to be harmed." "I can save you!" Brutaka shouted. “You saved me from the darkness and the horrors and brought me back to the light. Let me do the same for you!" "I’m sorry, brother." Axonn’s eyes slowly closed. Brutaka placed his head against his best friend, his only friend’s chest. He kneeled there a long time, holding Axonn’s body gently. The others did not move. When he rose at last and turned to look at them, it was with dead eyes. “Velika will pay for this." Before any of them could react, he had summoned a portal and was gone. Again the Great Being laughed cruelly. “You see, you need me. None of you can hope to stop my brother. He will kill you, one by one. Brutaka is next. I am the only one who can save you. Free me and I will destroy him." Helryx agonized over the decision for three seconds. That was all. The Great Being was clearly insane and she doubted she could trust him. But Velika had killed one of her most powerful agents without any powers. He had almost killed all of them. She made her choice. Grimly, she walked over and sliced the chains from the Great Being’s body. "Then I guess you’d better get to work." *** Voporak ran. Clutched in his arms was the Great Kanohi Vahi, the Mask of Time. Under The Shadowed One’s command, he had spent several thousand years tracking it down. After a brief and altogether unpleasant encounter with Makuta Teridax several thousand years previously, he had at last managed to take the Vahi for himself. And then… Things had changed. Teridax had taken control. Voporak had tried to find his master, but chaos had began and the universe as he knew it had been wrecked. At last making his way out of the giant Great Spirit robot, he had found himself in a vast, open desert. And so he had ran. It was all that he had left to him. He was nearly invincible, but he had been left without the leader he had so long depended on. Ironically, just as the thought crossed his mind, he saw a familiar figure several hundred meters away. Crossing the distance quickly, he bowed before his master, careful to stay further than arm’s reach. His powers would kill anyone in close proximity. The Shadowed One spoke without turning. “Voporak. My faithful one. You have remained loyal unlike all the others." He turned slowly, and Voporak was surprised to see that his large eyes blazed with a sickly, burning green. "I have brought the Vahi as you commanded, Master." The Shadowed One looked surprised. Then he grinned. “Ah, yes. I was so busy with Kojol’s toys I forgot all about this one. Yes, I think we can put this to good use…" *** Helryx watched with grim determination as the Great Being rose, flexing its limbs. "So. Velika is one of you, then?" The Great Being laughed. “Yes, and no. Velika was always a little different. Always curious to learn more. He wanted to observe our creations. Perhaps spending so long in such a feeble body drove him mad." "As the Ignika drove you mad." "The Ignika set me free!" He roared and her suddenly, and she backed away. Chained, he had been a pet. But now he was in control. She knew that for all their power, they were no match for the being before them. "I am going after Velika now. I will kill him. Stay out of my way." And with that, the Great Being was gone, disappearing in a flash of green light. Artakha spoke then, for the first time since they'd left the Matoran Universe. “Helryx." Instinctively, she saluted him. “Artakha. It has been a long time." "Indeed. Too long. You’ve been busy." "Yes." She sighed wearily. “The Order has been my life. I’m not entirely certain what to do now that Mata Nui’s gone." "Perhaps I can help with that." "Oh?" She looked up, confused. "As I recall, you used to work for me. The Hand of Artakha, you called yourselves. You were good warriors, but the universe was not ready for you at the time." "What are you suggesting?" "It seems that with the Order gone, there are many who would welcome a new organization. Or an old one." "You want me to reform the Hand." She nodded slowly. It made sense. The Toa had their uses, but they could not always do what was necessary to triumph over evil. "Yes, but that comes later. There is something more pressing that requires our attention. The Mask of Time has fallen into the hands of our enemies. We must find it and ensure that it is never used." She looked at her former leader and considered what he was offering. Then she nodded, smiling. She’d missed being a hero. “Where do we start?"
  5. Main Topic Legacy of the Great Beings is a continuation from where the serials left off. I do not intend to address the main plot threads of The Powers That Be / The Yesterday Quest - there are just far too many unanswered questions and far too many ways Greg could have gone with those. Instead, my story will be dealing with how the old characters adapt to their new life on Spherus Magna. In particular, what evil will be up to now that Teridax is (presumably - it wouldn't be the first time he's escaped certain doom, after all) dead. Unlike my previous attempt at epic writing, I've outlined where I want the story to go and there are multiple plot lines that will converge in one place as the story plays out. I'd appreciate your comments to tell me what you like (implying you'd like any of my horrid writing), what you don't like, and in particular if there's anything that doesn't make sense within pre-established canon. Because make no mistake, this is not some Alternate Universe fic; I intend to make this as canon-conforming as the official serials were. This may or may not bring the BIONICLE universe to a close - I'm considering writing a sequel afterwards, but we'll have to see what the aftermath is from this before I can decide.
  6. Something's been nagging me for several months. In Time Trap (which I unfortunately do not possess due to budgetary reasons - if any kind forumer wants to type up the relevant text from it that'd be most appreciated), then-Toa Vakama experiences a vision. According to the Bionicle Wiki: And BS01 has this to say on the scene: So the obvious questions are: what is this fortress, when does this take place, and from whom is he defending it from? (Also: why is he the lone defender? what's happened to the several dozen Toa and ex-Order agents on Spherus Magna?) When I asked this question to several other fans some months ago, they replied along the lines of "I assumed it was Metru Nui during the events of Destiny War." But there are several problems with this theory: Krakua did not defend Metru Nui alone. Far from it; in fact, this was probably the largest battle in the entire history of the Matoran Universe. Krakua's personality in Destiny War is...frankly, a little pathetic. He seems to be a recently transformed Toa who is still trying to get used to his powers. Hardly the ideal candidate to defend a fortress by himself and send an absolutely vital message across time to Vakama. Perhaps most condemning of all, the two most prominent BIONICLE wikis make it clear that these events have not yet taken place, as of The Powers That Be / The Yesterday Quest. This could be the fault of the editors making unverifiable assumptions from circumstantial evidence, but I'm inclined to trust their word on this one. So, my questions from earlier are: what is this fortress, when does this take place, and from whom is he defending it from? My theory is that...*drumroll*...he is defending the Gold-Skinned Being's Aqua Magna fortress. BZPower says on Krakua's fortress: And then on the Gold-Skinned Being's fortress from Bionicle Wiki: If this fortress is located on Aqua Magna, it is certainly an island. Perhaps more importantly, it's the only known fortress on Spherus Magna. That still leaves unanswered the questions "when, who, and why". I'm writing a fanfic at the moment that'll show off my own personal ideas on the subject - on this one, your guess is as good as mine, because we have honestly no idea who the main enemies will be (would have been, I guess) on Spherus Magna. An alternative theory is that he was defending a newly constructed New Atero. But this doesn't seem likely, as why would New Atero be situated on an island? And where would the Agori and Matoran be? Anyway, that was extremely long, so I won't take up any more of your time. What are your thoughts? Is he going to defend the Gold Skinned Being's fortress? Why would he do that? And as an extra teaser, just for fun - what turned him into an awesome-warrior-from-the-future?
  7. IC: Lepidus Snkkt! A vine wrapped around Lepidus's leg, pulling him up into the air in seconds. Before he was able to react, he found himself hanging upside down from a large tree. Traps...but what for? The Makuta is vanquished. He had stumbled into many such devices as he'd wandered through the jungle. After the Rakshi attack, he'd thought such weaponry would no longer be needed. Then it came to him. They don't trust each other! The more he thought about it, the more certain he was. This wasn't a trap for infected Rahi, this was set up to catch Matoran. Well, he wouldn't be beaten so easily. He pushed his feet forward, then backward, then forward again, building up momentum. Faster, faster, faster...he spun around the tree branch that held the vine. As he did, his lightning quick instincts went into action, and he grabbed his Warblade, cutting the branch in one smooth motion. Tumbling to the ground with some pain, he got up again and looked around. After the attack, he had sought out his friend Litozen, in order to journey with him. But the next day Litozen was gone. Lepidus had seen no sign of his friend. He'd been searching for him all this time. Along the way, he'd been practicing his fighting. He felt ready for anything! He'd just have to find the De-Toa and see where he was needed. Suddenly, his superhearing picked up voices. Familiar voices. Almost trembling with excitement, he dashed off through the forest. He soon came to Litozen and a Le-Matoran he did not know. They seemed to be looking at a Kanohi mask for some strange reason. Bursting out, he called "Litozen! Litozen!" He was very happy to have the mufflers in his ears that Kehuri had given him just seconds before the attack. Yelling would have been out of the question without them. "I've been looking for you!"
  8. Yes, one of them is Dume. The other is an entirely new character. What about Jovan? If the battle began directly after the Great Cataclysm, then he might still be alive. Of course, you could just say he was killed in the cracking of the Southern Continent.
  9. Apologies for the late response. I suppose you're right about his desirability as a character. As to that last...hmm. I guess I'll just ban PCs from using his species. Or else I might make some of his abilities order training. (Perhaps Botar's replacement was in training for thousands of years before he was ready to serve?) I think I might make Kualsi-like teleportation innate, and the ability to carry weapons, and that would be all. His replacement would be a character, but not really important to the story - the replacement (he'll need a name at some point) will merely bring the convicted prisoners down into the pit.
  10. I've noticed that trend, but I reckon originality is good. Also, there is a war going on. And that'll be front and center in the game. But the witch hunts will add another layer of complexity. Well, the Matoran got special tools with powers. I'm not sure whether the powers were innate or simply came from the weapons...it seems like ordinary Matoran wouldn't be able to use energy weapons, though? And that's true about Botar...I didn't know people wanted to play his species? I assumed Toa, Matoran, Skakdi, Makuta, etc. would be more popular. Anyway, in this RPG he'll be one of a kind, and he's dead before the start of the game, so his species won't exist.
  11. Thank you for your review, Canis Lupis! I've written up some answers to your questions. Toa Nuva disappeared. Pretty standard. Why did the Mahri defect? How did these rumors get out? That's not entirely clear at the start of the game, but the details will emerge over time. The game will begin with Jaller being brought before the council, Dume having accused him. As this first trial progresses, we'll find out more about the Mahri's alleged betrayal. So the Toa Nuva's location is still known? Why Tridax? Wouldn't Icarax be a better choice? He was the one trying to take over the Brotherhood. Well, the Nuva left for Karda Nui to battle the Makuta strike team. That's all that anybody knows. No one's seen the Nuva, or Antroz, Chirox, Gorast, Mutran, Icarax, and the rest since. They might be dead, or still fighting, or may have gone to some other location. The point is they're out of the action for now. Icarax would be the second choice, but he's in Karda Nui. Tridax and Teridax are the only canon Makuta not in Karda Nui at the moment, and Teridax is...busy.You said that in the first paragraph. I'm just clarifying what each faction is up to.May I ask how Keetongu, a Rahi who didn't like people and couldn't speak Matoran got on the council? I'm not sure on that either, to be honest. I was looking for a third member and Keetongu seemed best to represent the various outcasts. But yeah, he's not really fit for the job. I'll try to think of someone else...Courtroom drama ought to be exciting. I thought so too; seems like there'll be plenty of room for interesting scenarios to emerge.Like I said before, why did the Mahri deffect? That will be revealed...Did I read that right? Did you say Makuta?Indeed. Makuta are fairly OP, it's true, but then again they're pretty outnumbered. The vast majority of the Makuta are in Karda Nui, so the remaining ones will be directing the war and sowing seeds of confusion more than engaging in direct combat.What Voya Nui Matoran abilities? They were normal Matoran... And you're letting us play as Makuta? The most OP race ever other than Botar? The Voya Nui Matoran have the powers that Karzhani gave them when they passed through his realm. And yeah, a few people will be allowed to play as Makuta, but keep in mind that actual Makuta are prime targets for assassination. If the leaders are killed, then the Brotherhood will fall. So the Makuta have to be cautious. (And dctually, Botar is far weaker than a Makuta...Icarax murdered Botar without breaking a sweat in Federation of Fear. And that was while he was also fighting Trinuma.)
  12. Well, here's a little idea I'm working on. Thoughts? Treachery With the disappearance of the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui, tensions are running high across the Matoran Universe. The Makuta not engaged in the universe core have launched a massive assault, and The Shadowed One has reluctantly allied himself with their Brotherhood. The battle becomes even more desperate, however, with the sudden defection of the Toa Mahri to the enemy side. Fears that other Toa are secretly Makuta agents have spurred a massive witch hunt, encouraged by Turaga Dume himself. Treachery takes place all across the Matoran Universe as the final battle for the fate of Mata Nui is being waged. Mata Nui's protectors are beginning to crumble, however, as their unity shatters from within. The Brotherhood of Makuta are the ultimate evil. They are leading attacks all across the universe under the orders of Teridax. Most of the Makuta themselves, however, are battling the Toa Nuva in Karda Nui; Tridax has taken direct command of the Brotherhood from its headquarters on Destral. Teridax's current location is unknown. The Dark Hunters were convinced (or possibly threatened) into joining the Brotherhood on their conquests. They're currently engaged in guerrilla attacks on various islands. The Protectors of Mata Nui, assembled from the ranks of the Order of Mata Nui, assorted Toa, the Voya Nui Matoran, and the old Koro guards, are desperately attempting to hold back the Brotherhood and the Hunters on many different fronts. The tide of battle seemed to be turning, and they were planning an assault on Destral itself, when the shock betrayal of the Toa Mahri sent them into disarray. The Order of Mata Nui itself will deal with any traitors that are found guilty by the ruling council, consisting of Turaga Dume, Toa Helryx, and Keetongu. Traitors are sent to the newly repaired Pit to await further judgement when the war is over. Players can create a character from any of these factions, or even a neutral non-participant in the war. The storyline will be centered around the Battle for Mata Nui, and well as the Shadow Hunts, and they have come to be called. Every character can be potentially suspected of treason; the Makuta may deliberately spread false rumors about this in an attempt to weaken their opponents. Any player accused of treachery will be brought before the ruling council for trial. As such, the game is one part giant war between the two sides, and one part courtroom drama. Other than Karda Nui, every location in the Matoran Universe may be visited, and canonical characters may appear briefly. Character Template Name: Should be Bionicle sounding. 13. IC: Lepidus, Le-Koro Lepidus looked at the warriors around him, and smiled with pride. The Rahkshi attack had come suddenly, as the evacuation preparations were just getting underway, and they had been taken by surprise. But they had fought hard and they had made it through the bloody day, until the Rahksi formation collapsed. He had stayed on the sidelines because of his size, but he had fought hard regardless, and he had even struck down a Rahksi that was battling a Toa. He was glad for the ear muffs that Kehuri had given him moments before the attack began; they had saved his life, certainly. He walked up to Litozen, who he was beginning to see as an older brother, and spoke to him. "That was...amazing." He breathed. "You were amazing. You're a true hero." He smiled. "...do you know where you're going from here?" And then, boldly, "Maybe I could come with you?" His face was full of hope and joy. OOC: This is going to end sadly, I know it ;-; Also, apologies if I'm assuming too much...I'm guessing that Litozen stayed and fought, though if that seems out of character, considering his secret allegiance, I can always edit my post...
  14. IC: Lepidus Lepidus fastened the ear muffs around his head as best he could; he realized with some dismay that he'd have to press them against his head constantly for them to stay on. A though struck him. "Seeing as Litozen can listen in this area, perhaps I should go some distance away and listen in the other direction. Otherwise, my hearing will be wasted." He pointed out. "Uh, maybe someone can come with me? I can't exactly hold my own against a Rahksi if they find me." He looked at Syvra, who was using his plant life powers. "Perhaps you can come with me?" He asked. OOC: Here's your opportunity.
  15. IC: Lepidus Lepidus glanced up at the Toa of Sonics. He was quite impressed. The Toa - Litozen, he thought he was called - was really something. He could tell that Litozen was a model Toa, always devoted to his cause. "It'd be an honor to work with you!" Lepidus made a little salute with his small blade. "How do you think we should go about this?" He asked. Surely Litozen would know the best way to utilize their sonic abilities. OOC: Poor guy, this is gonna be heartbreaking when he finds out ;-;
