  1. I know a lot of people on here are very open about their hobby(Bionicle of course), and it may be different in college, because form what I've heard, college is way less judgmental than high school, but doesn't anybody feel uncomfortable telling people that they like Bionicle? I personally have a Bionicle-Themed Instagram account, and haven't told anybody except for my friends that also like it. For me it is mostly the connection with a toy theme that leads me to not tell anyone, despite the extremely complex and mature storyline. What are other people's experiences with being open or closed about their Bionicle hobby?

(If this is the wrong forum, I'm sorry, it didn't seem to fit into any others)

  2. As has already been mentioned, making a custom mask of a mask that already exists is much easier if you have a copy of the physical mask. Making a silicone mould of it is the easiest way to go. I've been spending the last couple of weeks trying to produce transparent masks using silicone moulds and crystal resin, and while I'm yet to perfect the technique, it's producing some promising results.

What I basically do is make 2 silicone mouldings of the mask, one of the outside, one of the inside (alternatively one could apply the silicone completely over the mask and then cut it in half once the mould has cured to free the mask and make the mould useable). Make sure the two halves can sit flush so it can produce an accurate moulding. Then make a cast of it using your preferred material, you can use strong plaster (which might be sufficient enough for a 2008 Ignika but I'm not sure) but if you want strength and durability, pearl colours or transparent colours, go for an epoxy or crystal resin. Sometimes it's necessary to mould 2 or 3 times to be able to fill everything, and some trimming may be required, but it should produce at least satisfactory quality custom masks

I personally recommend Pebeo Siligum moulding paste - it's about £12 for a small pack where I live, but it's top quality stuff and perfect for making moulds of masks, and it cures in 5 minutes. For resins and plasters, I recommend Pebeo Resin Plaster (dries in an hour) and Pebeo Crystal Resin (can take 36 hours to harden but it's much stronger)

If you want to make one and you don't have a physical copy of an Ignika to hand, then I recommend polymer clay like Fimo or Sculpey (it's easier to work with than air drying clay). I can go through some techniques you could use for that particular route as well if this is what you are thinking of doing  :)

I too have been experimenting with making silicone molds of masks, and have produced some promising results. I guess bzp will be hit with some custom resin masks soon :P

  3.

In a bad RPG like Asylum, the players are railroaded and the plot is so dependent on being followed that there is no room for it to go in a different way.

Asylum itself wasn't bad, really. The concept was sound, it was well setup, and in the beginning, it was actually pretty good. It was just executed poorly, by inexperienced staff.

It wasn't dependent on railroading to any extent - the staff both had different ideas of where they each wanted the game to go, and failed to take into account the wishes of their playerbase.

How would I go about making my own rpg? What components do I need? Is there a guide?

I would strongly recommend having a look over some of the existing games on this forum - Corpus Rahkshi, the BZPRPG, Y60K, MuP and Bionifight - and perhaps joining some of them and playing for a while before attempting to make your own game.

that is good advice, I think I will do that, thank you!

  4.

Isn't that from the 8759 Battle of Metru Nui playset, released in 2005? If so, it's probably not too valuable.

EDIT: Bricklink shows it goes for as little as 10 cents USD.

That's the flat-gold variant, the Pearl Gold one is significantly rarer.

Hmm... how did that variant come about?

Same way the pearl gold kraakhan came about, the set was made midway through the transition from dark gold to pearl gold, resulting in half of the sets having dark and half having light.

I can confirm that I own (one, not too sure if it's the only) the gunmetal/gold Strakk helmet. There's also a greenish-gunmetal zamor too, although I'm not too sure whether or not people consider Zamor collectible (with all, like 7 colors or so?)

I can try and dig it out for better pics, if wanted though. I have it stored away with the other three prototype parts I won back in 2010, I believe. I don't know price estimates, but apparently I'm not supposed to sell them. Not that I'd want to anyway, it's pretty neat to have a potentially one-of-a-kind BIONICLE thing.

EDIT: It's the left-most one in the pics provided in the original post.

Very nice! I have exactly the same piece; got it from Black Six at BrickFest 2009. There seem to be three, as the post says, judging from this picture; there's one next to the Pridak head, and another in the pile to the left of the pearl gold Avohkiis. Then there's mine, which I got before this picture was taken. I've scoured the other pictures from Black Six, and haven't found any others. Good to know who another owner is! I don't know who owns the last one.

Price estimates are a tricky thing with Binkmeister prototypes, since they've only ever been sold once, and that was in the context of a large collection being sold that happened to include a couple prototypes so it's impossible to base an estimate off of that. But it's kind of irrelevant anyways, because like you say, they're not supposed to be sold anyways.

Holy cow, I would give the deed to my house for one of those pearl gold avohkiis Dx

  6. Nice! I really enjoy both of these, and sincerely hope they bring back the bohrok! I especially like those minigun hands, although the designs lack a sort of uniformity(they kind of look like 2 different species entirely). Very good job!

  7. I'm 27 and still have displays and I still build and collect. I've been to college, own my own home. All my partners have been completely cool with it or have their own.

I find this incredibly reassuring, Im glad theres hope for a Bionicle nerd.

I moved out for a year, realized I wouldn't have room for all my Bionicles anywhere, so I moved back to my house. And my house already ran out of room too .-. There's literally cases full of sets, and a few more random sets lying around the house. This is literally how my Baranus V7 has been displayed for the past year.

That picture is so glorious I actually considered paying $46.99 for it...

    Aesthetic??

As for my collection, I feel like i will end up selling off a lot of my redundant g1 parts (so. many. limbs.) and build my collections of CCBS. In the future, I can see myself keeping and displaying them, and letting my children play with them.

  8. Guns are somewhat taboo in the MU. Guns, paper, and wheels.

But then again, they have exosuits and giant robots that we don't have. So they are waaay off our technological development spectrum and on another one entirely.

That is something kind of interesting about the MU, is that they are in somewhat of the stone age in their world, but in our world they would be technologically superior (at least we have paper though).

  9. Hello everyone, I think about this topic a lot so I figured I would present it to you:

We all know that through human history certain breakthroughs in technology are made that allow for the creation of more advanced machines and such. Beyond the canonical storyline, what breakthroughs do you think were made by the Matoran/Agori/any other species? And what point in advancement is spherus magna in? I saw a tumblr post about a mechsuit for krana appose to a bohrok body, and I thought that would be pretty cool. There is also the typical gun/laser gun thing, but have those already been invented in the bionicle/MU universe?

    Tell me what you think!
