  1. In an alternate Reign of Shadows timeline...

See? This plan is flawless. It was always going to work. Just like the dynasties that came before them, Mata Nui must eventually fall. It is plain destiny that Teridax was going to succeed in his ingenious plan. It has been so cleverly calculated over the course of thousands of years. It all pays off at this very point... for him, at least.

On the other hand, it's too good for me. Knowing that Teridax attempted to kill me and my brethren in the heart of the Matoran Universe is unsettling enough. Now, I'm stuck in a measly shack in the abominable island that is Xia. By the Great Beings, I despise this place. Now that Teridax is in control, this place bears a striking resemblance to Karzahni. We have everything here; the slaving Matoran, the uninhabitable, barren landscape, a dictatorial overseer... the list goes on. However, it has gotten progressively worse with the military boom, if you will. For every minute that passes by, another ten Exo-Toa roam the streets and the Universe. In fact, I believe the curfew starts now. Awaiting a thorough and brutal inspection by Exo-Toa in three... two... one...

The door is bashed down the towering enforcers with prejudice as they immediately start ransacking the claustrophobic room in a seeking frenzy for any weapons or artifacts. The Exo-Toa are aggressively proficient, managing to search through every chest and compartment in seconds. "Xia Citizen Number 895200, your personal room is free of any items that may pose a threat to our great Overseer. Thank you for your cooperation." says the commanding Exo-Toa in a monotonous, robotic voice. The Exo-Toa then proceed to exit the room in an orderly fashion and do a strip-search of another hundred thousand more personal rooms. Right as they see themselves out and are out of the room, the resident shapeshifts back into his original form. "Well, another day, another inspection," he groans. "That'll be my energy consumption for the day."

    Elsewhere...

"Alright, we're in Xia, now what? We can't just stroll in." says Hafu.

"Well, we... can... just stroll in. To them, we're just another bunch of Matoran for the factories to take," replies Garan. "We just need to find our mystery man."

"And why exactly do we trust him with this?" queries Idris. "I hear that he's unstable and cannot be trusted."

"See here... Idris. This mastermind has a pension for holding a grudge against the current ruler of this universe and having invaluable powers, so this bet is as good as any." responds Garan.

    "Still unstable though." says Faiyok.

"You know, Faiyok, I think it's best if we shut our mouths and go in. Agreed?" commands Garan.

Idris, Hafu and Faiyok nod their heads in unison. It was at that point that they stepped into a truly dangerous place. Garan and Idris had each experienced the nightmarish island of Karzahni, but this was far worse. Right as they were walking in the realm of oppression, they have no idea what's in store for them.

    * * *

"Well, back to work it is. Don't you just love supplying military equipment to the cruel Makuta that rules the Universe? Because I certainly don't. Speaking of tiny biomechanical machines that are oppressively ruled by Teridax, where are those Matoran? I thought we agreed on a meeting place. I guess it's back to the drawing board," thinks the resident.

He was going to have to establish a telepathic link again. It took a lot of searching and mind-hopping, but he was able to locate Garan in a armour factory. "Time to go," the resident whispers to himself. The resident, attempting to be as discreet as possible, navigates the bustling roads by shapeshifting into a random Matoran to make his way to the armour factory. In the eyes of the resident, all he could see was countless Matoran bumping into each other with the occasional sight of a comparably titanic Exo-Toa. He had been itching for the chance to teleport to the factory, but under the watchful eye of the Exo-Toa, there was no way that he could get away with it in the traditional way. His way involved projecting a being of shadow that acted as a decoy and then teleporting. Using this method, he teleported himself to the factory he was looking for and shapeshifted into an Exo-Toa following his transference. This form would allow him to escort Garan's group out and potentially help them escape.

"Ahhh... feels good to be in a body that boasts a fraction of the power of my original form. Glad my height was compensated for, though," the resident thought.

Now in an Exo-Toa's body, he marched in and spotted Garan crafting Protosteel gauntlets. After rattling off a robotic command to Garan, Hafu, Faiyok and Idris, the resident escorted the four out of the factory and forced them into a secluded room. Once the five were inside, the resident started speaking to Garan via telepathy.

"So there you are, Garan." says the resident.

"Yes, Mutran, I'm the Garan in question. Could we just leave the pleasantries for later and get out of this Mata Nui-forsaken place?" replies Garan.

"I believe I have the right to be skeptical, Matoran. As for the departure, just hang on for a few seconds." responds Mutran.

In an instant, Mutran teleports himself with the four Matoran to a slightly more secluded area. The Matoran were initially shocked at the realisation of such a sudden happening, but they eventually calmed down after looking around and noticing that they were near the entrance of what seemed to be a cave. Faiyok then looked up to Mutran in confusion, expecting an explanation.

"Good question, Idris. What is this place? This cave is more of a tuhhh..."

"Mutran! Did you just read my mind?"

"IDRIS!" Mutran snapped. "Your vocal processors are being unnecessarily disruptive. Let me do the talking."

"What could ever make my voice inaudible to you? I can still talk." sassed Faiyok.

"Yeah, I've had enough." moaned Mutran. In an instant, Mutran used his Shelek to render Faiyok's voice inaudible and hopefully calm her down. "You're always so... electric. Not a surprise, really."

"Enough foolery, what is this place?" asked Garan.

"This mountain is particular is known as The Mountain. Such an underwhelming name for a living, breathing rock that can literally eat things. It's also quite amusing that I'm standing at the foot of a mountain that was once my beloved sentient stone, don't you think?" added Mutran.

"More amusing that he held emotions for a rock though..." said Hafu under his breath.

Mutran gave Hafu a dirty look for his response before commanding the Matoran to go into the cave and through the tunnel. He could tell that they have more than a few questions about this undertaking, but he ignored them and kept signaling them to progress through the tunnel. Mutran had a bit of a distressed look on his face, but continued on despite possible hesitance. Faiyok was fed up at this point, however.

"Where is this going, exactly?" questioned Faiyok.

"I don't have much time to explain, Matoran. We're running through the oesophagus of the Mountain. Proceed with caution." explained Mutran.

Faiyok responded with wide eyes, which prompted her to run faster. Mutran, using his echolocation abilities, was mapping out the inner workings of the Mountain. They were going to have to go deeper into the stomach of the living rock in the hopes of ending up in a subterranean tunnel.

The winding oesophagus of the Mountain eventually led into the ‘stomach’ of the Mountain, which had turned out to be a gigantic pool of Protodites.

“Why protodites? Any idea...?” asked Hafu confusingly.

“Po-Matoran, I think it might be beneficial to beg the question: What would be their purpose?” replied Mutran.

“To act as individual assistant digesters?” added Garan.

“Spot on. Now, don’t you dare go into their without immediately not going in there. They will quite literally eat you alive.” condescended Mutran.

“So why are we here? questioned Idris.

“This is our best hope of finding a secluded tunnel. The last people that ended up here became Protodite prey. Won’t see anyone else down here.” said Mutran. “Alright, let’s go in.”

In an instant, Mutran had pushed himself and the four Matoran into the Protodite pit without warning. He knew that they would hesitate, so he just had to go for it. Just before the Matoran could reach the Protodites and meet their doom, Mutran had summoned a large-scale stasis attack and focused it down to the pit, freezing all of the billions of Protodites in place.

But only for a short moment. Mutran frantically rushes around to locate the Matoran and bring them together and explain to them what is happening.

“WHAT IS GOING ON?” screamed Faiyok.

“I pushed you four off and into the digestion pit.” responded Mutran. “But that wasn’t me.”

“It wasn’t you? Oh, it’s very ‘you’ to push us off.” sassed Hafu.

“No... I’m being controlled. Telepathically. Odd, since I have near impenetrable mental shielding...” said Mutran.

Just as Mutran had mentioned mental shielding, he had the sudden urge to undo his stasis attack. He had seemed a tad more murderous than usual. Mutran, knowing that he was being telepathically influenced, swiftly teleported himself and the four Matoran to a random location. Anywhere that wasn’t a pit of Protodites was a viable destination for him. This landed the five in a remote jungle in Daxia.

“Alright, you Brakas-mind of a Makuta, where are we now?” enquired Faiyok.

“I think we’re in... Daxia. Yeah, it’s Daxia.” answered Mutran.

“Wait... Daxia? The Order of Mata Nui Daxia? Well, we best...” responded Garan.

Mutran was stunned when Garan had mentioned this. For that, he had used his Shelek once again to keep Garan quiet. Mutran was utterly shocked when he heard mention of the Order of Mata Nui from a mere Matoran. Even he had no idea of the Order before the Karda Nui crisis.

“Enough of this. We need to find our way to the nearest settlement. Don’t want to be acquainted to a hungry Muaka, do we now?” commanded Mutran.

“But Muaka don’t live in jungles...” said Hafu.

Mutran, eager to move on and possibly meet another Makuta who wasn’t sided with Teridax, had commanded the four Matoran to advance forward in a random direction through the olive-green thicket. The jungle itself wasn’t quite as lively or dense as one of the rumoured rainforests of Le-Wahi, but it wasn’t a scrubland either. The jungle appeared to be spotted with either puddles of liquid Protodermis or minuscule veins of Protosteel, but in lieu of that, primitive-looking spears and discs were littered among the jungle. Hafu immediately took interest in the discs, picking one up to investigate.

The disc didn’t have any noticeable inscriptions or markings, but Hafu didn’t need a name. Even though he frequently made stone sculptures and not Protodermis sculptures, he could tell one type from the other. Upon closer inspection, Hafu felt that the Protodermis type was familiar. He wouldn’t be mistaken, as the Protodermis was a mass-producable, tools-grade Metru Nui Protodermis. Hafu couldn’t look for much longer, though.

“Alright, you Matoran, we have to go.” said Mutran.

To Be Continued In Chapter 2

  2. Good guy Minifigs in towers vs. huge constraction monsters.

Towers and constraction. Best theme ever. No humanoid constraction. Actual bricks. Exclusive minifigs. Maybe throw in a boat or plane in there somewhere.

Yep. Yep. Would totally recommend. Sounds a lot like the old Vikings theme though.

I guess there's two time periods for this and therefore different stories. One set in the Middle Ages would follow some hunters and soldiers fighting off creatures such as trolls and ents and another set in a sci-fi universe would follow some hunters planet-hopping to destroy the source of a monster infestation. Basically a fusion of Metroid and Evolve.

Either way, it would be a pretty fun theme.

  3. The legacy themes (Space, spies, pirates, knights, and sometimes mining) always come back in some form or another.

    I don't mind that.

Now that that's out of the way, I'm rather disappointed that BIONICLE is back, or at the very least, so soon.

It feels like LEGO just wanted to cash-in on fans of the series instead of bringing back a beloved theme.

Plus, BIONICLE had a good ending. A moon rock straight to the brain-bucket.

    Awesome!

On another note, I never really got into Exo-Force when it was out, but I'd love to see it come back!

I'd also like to see Mars Mission and a Crystalien Conflict 2!

And the #1 thing I want back? The fantasy novel style Castle theme! With Orcs, Dwarves, and Skeleton armies!

    That was awesome!

A Mars Mission reboot? YES. YES. YES. That must happen. I've been itching for a space theme for a couple of years now. Probably because I (regrettably) missed out on Galaxy Squad.

And with the Fantasy-style Castle theme, there's talk of a Fantasy Era castle theme returning in 2016. Not the Castle theme itself, but still in the vein of dwarves, skeletons, dragons and such.

  4. I've started playing it... or am I one of the few people who managed to pull $15 out of their Steam wallet and actually buy the game?

I've been having some slow performance lately, but the game is a lot of fun. Managed to find an elephant in an Autumn Forest...

  5. I don't think adventures would be rebooted any time soon, Lego has the rights to produce Indiana Jones sets, which adventures was always based off of. I'm all for rebooting all the others you suggested however. I would also like to see Slizers, but Bionicle kinda puts them out of the market, unless the Slizers are included into the Bionicle mythos or become the hero factory like replacement when G2 finishes.

Oooo... a Slizers reboot? I'd like to see that. Maybe even Galidor. Fair point on the Indiana Jones thing though. I mean, the new movie is two years from now, no point in cramming an Adventurers reboot in there.

  6. Personally, I think that a lot of the speculation that comes up around G2, his included, is minor variations on 'Do you think G2 will do X' or 'How should G2 do X' as if the new creative team has to work off G1's playbook to be accepted. This isn't G1. Throw your preconceived notions of BIONICLE out the window, and judge the new generation on its own. I'd love to see a speculation topic that goes with things like 'why haven't we seen the animals of Okoto and where did they go?' or 'What do you think the MoUP's powers are?'. 'Where do you think Makuta is?' can be another one.

As for the OP. I agree that there shouldn't be any more Toa introduced. Instead, let's have more Protector stories, like MNOLG was for the matoran. I've said this before, but a line with a round of animal mounts for villagers, protectors or Toa would be right up my alley. By which I mean I'd buy every one of them. There's nothing stopping the 'eventh Toa' arc people think is so inevitable being the story of the Protectors finding and calling the Seventh Toa to rescue the Masters, for example.

Fair point. I 100% agree with you when you say that you want to see some more stories based around the little people of Okoto who aren't fighting reanimated skeletal warriors or gigantic spiders. This topic was mainly made out of my concern for the sets. I'm not too keen on seeing a slight variation of the Toa every year like it was for Hero Factory.

I guess this topic will become a tad more relevant if G2 runs for at least a few more years. I like Okoto and the current characters and all, but my desire for a new location and new characters will always come up. It's not me yearning to return to G1, it's just a very effective gimmick that benefits the line on a story standpoint. Perhaps even sales.

  7. Remakes and reboots are kinds of buzzwords for disaster these days, aren't they? But... they sometimes work. Just look at Dredd and Batman Begins. The only thing is that you have to both respect the property and do something different with it. So, without further ado, I will purpose a few ideas for beloved themes that should be rebooted.

    #1: Alpha Team

Yeah, Ultra Agents would eventually have to move out of the way for this to be welcome, but I still believe that this theme deserves to see the light of day again. After all, it was the original Agents theme. The original story is nothing special and is frankly quite dated, but that's why I think it deserves a reboot. LEGO could breath some fresh new life into this theme that has been discontinued for eleven years as of now.

    #2: Exo-Force

Now, this is a beloved theme. This one may be the youngest of the very small batch, but it probably has the most potential. I don't even need to explain why this is a good idea. It's EXO-FORCE: The LEGO series starring mech suits, a mountain split in half and a golden robot, all in an anime style. Make it happen.

    #3: Knights Kingdom

Yeah, we kinda sorta need this theme to be rebooted. It is, without a doubt, the best Castle theme ever. And hey, it has a story. It's at the very least digestible.

Those were just some classics that I immediately thought of. Do you think LEGO should reboot younger themes like Atlantis, or really old themes like Adventurers? Tell me what you think.

  8. Seems interesting at all, but keep in mind that Ninjago is seemingly in the same world, or realm, as the Ultra Agents. There are several other connections from there. But... if we're assuming that, then why is the land of Ninjago seem so primitive yet so technologically advanced? If the First Spinjitzu Master had created the land of Ninjago and possibly the entire realm, where is in Mata Nui's name is Astor City on this map? If Astor City is a place where the Agents and even citizens have ready access to hovering technology, are quantum mechanics and theoretical physics even a thing?

I am absolutely confident through my findings that the franchises of Ultra Agents, Agents, Racers, City, Galaxy Squad, Atlantis, Ninjago, Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, Adventurers, Dino and Power Miners are connected in some way or another. In the same world. Perhaps this is the reason why the mythos of Ninjago is retconned all of the time. It might be because the stories are based on myth. I believe that the Serpentine War and everything happened, but there's so much more to the Ninjago universe. It couldn't just be crammed into the tale of the First Spinjitzu Master creating Ninjago and creating a comical amount of elements another day.

    Thank you.

  9. If Generation 2 of Bionicle runs for a few more years, we will inevitably see another team of six elementally powered heroes guide us through another year. I mean, we only tagged along with the Toa Mata/Nuva for three years until we were thrown back one thousand years with the will-be Turaga in G1. But my question is: who's going to be in this Toa team?

    Idea #1: The Protectors

I had a few ideas that rushed to my head when this topic came to mind and the first one was the Protectors. From an attachment and engagement standpoint, it would make the most sense as the Protectors have already been named and their characters have developed. Whether their story will be prequel-driven or not is up to you, the reader.

    Idea #2: Bingzak and Company

So, we know about the character of Bingzak and that he will be some sort of lead for one of the books... and that's about it. Again, similar to G1, we might end up following a team of powered-up characters that we are familiar with and have grown an attachment to. Granted, we still have five or so more characters to develop, but just Bingzak would be fine, if not better. The story for the year could follow Toa Bingzak and five strangers, with the trials and tribulations bringing the six together. That could be the year that builds on the virtue of Unity.

Idea #3: One Of The Toa Okoto Leading A New Team

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Insert some tragic event that separates one Toa (I'll just use Kopaka as a placeholder) from the rest of his beloved team and we can have the Lesovikk-centric story we never had (I know about Dreams of Destruction, hold your Rahi). Kopaka would be in shambles after this tragedy, but would have to resurface to father a new team of Toa. Not only would we experience a dark twist in the story, we would watch Kopaka go through an arc of recovering from grief and learning how to guide and support people in lieu of shutting them out. If you ask me, this would be my preferred option.

But those were just my suggestions. Tell me what you think!

  10. It's sort of a shame that you have to buy these packs despite the minifigures being already available, but I guess that's how these things work. Hopefully there's nothing special about the figs themselves (like glue) that make them hard to integrate with standard figures.

But even though I don't have much interest in the game I'll definitely be buying up those Wizard of Oz packs if we don't end up getting regular sets.

True, true. As for the possible tampering of the minifigures to make them unusable, that would be unlikely. They managed to compress the AppBrick into a 1x1 brick, and it's still compatible with any other brick. Given the similar nature of the AppBrick to the system that Dimensions will be using, I think the minifigure's legs will be the only part that will be changed noticeably or at all.

  11. Greetings!

Right above this, you will see a poll. Personally, I think Master Chen and Pythor are the best Ninjago villains we have seen so far, and that the Overlord is a horrible villain and character. My reasons:

Master Chen and Pythor P. Chumsworth are such unique and enjoyable characters, which is part of the reason why I love them as villains. They are also great plotters and manipulators. Master Chen owns a noodle franchise, has a presumably French assistant, loves theatrics, and controls an Anacondrai cult, whilst Pythor is basically a snake version of Sideshow Bob. What's not to like?

On the other hand, the Overlord is an awful character. He has this silly grumbling voice that makes him sound more like an eight-year-old doing an impression of Dr. Claw than an intimidating master of darkness, needs everyone around him to help him to have a mere physical form, and needs the power that almost destroyed him in order to resurrect him... wait... what? Oh, and, he was defeated by both an outdated robot and a teenager wearing a golden kimono. Pathetic.

  12.

If you look at the 70743 Airjitzu Morro Flyer, Morro seems to have a tattered green uniform with Lloyd's symbol on it.  So maybe he does get an Airjitzu... but he's just possessed while using it?

    :music:

That's just Morro, not Lloyd. Lloyd does get turned into a ghost, but he's not Morro. The finale of season 4 confirmed that.

Then why does Morro's uniform have Lloyd's symbol on it? Perhaps the Green Ninja is a role passed down from generations...

  13. If the Avatar: The Last Airbender theme came back (or hadn't folded all those years ago), battle packs would have suited that theme well. Most of the factions in that series had a fair share of generic troops.

And I guess if Bionicle ever features minifig-scaled sets again (like last year's Hero Factory sets or the classic Bionicle playsets), battle packs wouldn't be totally impractical for that.

Otherwise, I've got nothing. Most of the themes I'm currently interested in (Ninjago, Elves, The Lego Movie) don't really have many large-scale armies of generic troops, at least not for both good and evil factions.

Let's respond to these in order...

Yeah, I would also like to see the return of the Avatar: The Last Airbender sets. Perhaps if the Legend of Korra show gets really popular, LEGO will churn out some sets. But I wouldn't count on that happening, as LEGO doesn't really produce Nickelodeon show sets for a long time.

Yes! Bionicle playsets should come back! I would love to see a few sets based around the Ancient City. They could combine together in a similar style to Helm's Deep or Dol Guldur.

I agree with you on the Ninjago army statement, as I would already have a considerable Anacondrai warrior army if I collected all of the first wave. Same thing goes with The LEGO Movie.

  14. Battle packs. Oh, how wonderful they are.

Since the battle pack's inception in 2007 with the Star Wars Clone Trooper and Battle Droid Battle Packs, we have gotten a Star Wars battle pack every following year, and they have been great sets for the collectors wanting to build a Clone Trooper, Mandalorian Trooper, Battle Droid, Assassin Droid, Shadow Trooper or Sith Trooper army, just to name a few. Later, in 2015, we got some Legends of Chima Battle Packs, and those were pretty good.

But if there's one theme that needs battle packs, it's the Lord of the Rings. Or the Hobbit. Sure, the smaller Helm's Deep set in got in 2012 was kind of a battle pack, but it's not quite right for me. I've always wanted to recreate Saruman's army of ten thousand Uruk-Hai, but I've only got four. Same goes for pretty much every other army in the six movies we've gotten so far that are set in the land of Middle-Earth. I would personally like to see battle packs for Uruk-Hai, Elves, Rohan soldiers, Gundabad Orcs, and Dwarves.

What other battle packs would you like to see?

  15. I would definitely recommend the Thunder Raider. You get both a tread vehicle and a mech, each belonging to the included Cole and Jay minifigures, all for $30 USD.

Other recommendations would be the Dojo Showdown and the Titanium Dragon. If you end up not liking the Ninjago line after buying the set, you at least have a cool dojo and/or dragon.

  16. Since we already know that we are going to be getting books based on the G2 storyline sometime around December, we can put that on the list. Perhaps the comics can come back, but the web serials are doing the storytelling job just fine.

But I don't want to see a Bionicle TV show. Judging by what we've seen from LEGO in terms of television material, it's not what I think Bionicle should be. Just leave it to the books and web serials.

  17. While I don't know about the Mask of Creation and Makuta could have possession of his Mask of control, the Mask of UP may be too powerful to destroy. At least by the Protectors it seems. So in order to keep the mask(s) out of the wrong hands they hid them in different corners of the Island.

Yeah, the Mask of Ultimate Power would be very hard to destroy, since it's... y'know, powerful. The Mask of Creation's hiding place being the jungle wouldn't be too bad, as the jungle around it looks denser than what we've seen from the Region of Jungle so far. The Mask of Ultimate Power is probably hidden under a volcano that's above a maze that's above a tomb.

  18. I'm sure that someone has probably picked up on this already, but the fact that the Masks of Creation, Control, and Ultimate Power have little pedestals dedicated to them sparked my interest. Why do they have pedestals? Who built them? I have a theory.

    The Protectors Hid Them Away

The Protectors are obviously Turaga figures in the Generation 2 story, and they seem like the kinds of elders that know pretty much everything. So, I propose that the Protectors found two masks in Ekimu and Makuta's abandoned forge, and found Ekimu's body and the Mask of Ultimate Power nearby. They later kept their location secret to protect the villagers. If the Protectors are so loyal to the Prophecy of Heroes (which details the threat of the Skull Spiders), they would have hidden the immensely powerful masks away from anyone who isn't a destined hero. I have potential evidence from the Prophecy of Heroes story episode:

"On the mythical island of Okoto, ancient masks were hidden away, for only the strongest to find and claim."

Notice how the sentence states that the masks were hidden away, not lost. Another thing of note would be that only the strongest are to claim them, which is definitely referring to the Toa. The Turaga of G1 even did this. They scattered the Toa Stones all over the island of Mata Nui for Takua to find and summon the Toa with.

Let me know what you think of this. Sure, this isn't groundbreaking news, but it's a little something.
