Instead of putting on sweatpants over their shorts like most people are prone to do when they're cold, I put on knee socks.

It actually worked really well. And I was warm for the rest of last night, so it was probably one of the best ideas of the night. Yay, knee socks!

I think that it was hilarious. There certainly will be better Superbowl halftime shows, and there certainly will be worse, but XLV's was hilarious because of just how out of control it became:
Fergie: When you are combined with a bad microphone and trying too hard, you start to sound like Adam Sandler. You are a better singer than that.
The people or person in control of the sound board: Some of this is partially your fault. Weird lagginess and sound issues shouldn't be happening at an event that is viewed not only nationally but world-wide.
Weird transition from "I've Gotta Feeling" to "Boom Boom Pow": That was...weird. I don't know if that was supposed to be some sort of attempt to be cultural or they needed a quick transition or what, but that was very weird sounding, and I half expected Fergie and will.i.am to start salsa dancing to it.
The light up one piece outfits the dancers wore: Those were FUN and kind of really cool. Oh man.
The four giant green people arrows: I did not understand this. Yes, they imply a forward movement, but they were just random. I understood the giant while people arrow "clicking" on the stage when Slash showed up, but the green arrows were odd.
All five million dancers on the field: I'm guessing the choreographer was trying for a "Beijing Olympics opening ceremony" feel? There were too many of you and it didn't seem as if there was enough rehearsal time beforehand, and unfortunately it showed. If you are going to make giant concentric circles on the stage, you need to make sure you do it right.
Taboo: You point your finger and spaceship noises happen. Enough said.
apl.de.ap: Based on your voice modifier and your mention of Cybertron during "Boom Boom Pow", I have concluded that you are really secretly a Transformer. I feel as if this one-ups Tony Starks announcement that he is Ironman.
Slash: Uh...you just sort of showed up. Like, you just popped out of the stage. At that point I was honestly expecting more random musicians to show up out of nowher-oh hey, Usher just flew out of the sky on a chain!
Fergie (again): What are you doing while you walk around Slash. You look confused, like the little kid at the talent show who gets shoved out on stage with her older sibling and doesn't really know what to do when she's not singing. Mind you, he kind of had an air of indifference about him, and you both seemed slightly confused and/or lost, but he pulled it off loads better as he just kept playing. Though, as per my searching, you sing "Sweet Child of Mine" with Slash on a semi-occasional basis (news to me), but you can also can apparently sing it much more successfully than you did here. I guess there's a difference in singing on a stage facing one direction and a stage that is focused on a giant audience in central style staging.
The random drummers and trumpet players who showed up during "Pump It": You kind of added to the overall clutter of too many people. Shoo!
Usher: You were lifted up by several dancers in an almost cheerleader-like pose at one point, and then jumped over will.i.am and landed in a sort of split jump. Many manly points of hilariousness to you. There is also one point where you are dancing and all of your dancers sort of fan out and you pop out and say "oh myyy god". I really want to have this as a gif.
The stage: Actually kind of great seeing as it was designed to be put together and spell out "LOVE". That's pretty cool. The world always needs more of that. This would have been even cooler if there hadn't been five million dancers running around.
Lack of audience on the field: Half of the fun is the fact that there are several hundred raving fans who paid some absurd amount of money and probably had to go through a background check to get tickets to be on the field during halftime.
Watching every person on the entire field do the running man and then multiple heel clicks in sync: Ok. I'll give that one to the choreographer. That was pretty neat.
Whoever designed the outfits: I fully expect to see these for sale on various websites with two of the search tags being "Steampunk inspired" and "TRONish".

I think if they'd just had the magic transforming stage, the Black Eyed Peas singing, a proper number of dancers that were only on the stage and not on the field, an actual audience surrounding the stage, and I guess we could still throw Slash and Usher in there during their respective appearances, it would have been a lot more successful. It still was quite fun, regardless of how over the top-silly-funny-out of control-ridiculous-hilarious it became.

Anyways, I am bogged down with photos (again). We took Shep, our very very old golden retriever, to visit my mom's school so her fourth graders could meet him, and I took (as usual) a lot more photos than I should. In the meantime, here's a random photo I took of a transient's kitten while in downtown Portland a few weeks back. It's kind of cute, but at the same time, kind of really sad, but it looks so happy playing with that bit of cardboard.

Three days until I head back to school.

    Packing time!

    'Tis very fun.

Edit: I feel as if people don't know what the differences between film photography, digital photography, and filming a video are any more. This worries me slightly.

The past few days have been the indoor national championships for NAIA, and all ten of the athletes from my university who qualified for it placed in the top fifteen in their respective events, with three of them placing in the top six in their events (thus reaching All-American status). Plus, they pretty much rewrote our school records doing all of this, which is phenomenal. AND, to add on to how well the team has done, one of our other runners competed at the masters indoor track world championships that took place in Canada this weekend, and she ended up taking fourth in the Pentahalon, second in the 800m, and third in a 4x200m relay.

So, what do I do to add on to all of these achievements that my teammates have had this weekend?

I go and dislocate my kneecap. Again. For the....what is this, the 14th time now? I'm losing count.

I'm torn on whether or not I should tell my coaches that it happened. I mean, they'll obviously notice that I'm suddenly wearing a knee brace and walking oddly, but I have a feeling that they'll probably be all "no outdoor season for you!" with no discussion of the subject, when it's really not something that would take me out of the entire track season. I guess it'll be back to wearing that confounded knee brace, more time trying to re-strengthen my knee, and becoming best friends with an ice pack for now.

Pardon my aggravated ramblings here, but goodness, this is frustrating. Almost made it three years without any knee problems and literally one misstep messed it all up again.

And excuse me while I go and contemplate ways to destroy my computer mouse, due to it's newfound glitch of randomly deciding to click on things that it shouldn't. Like RANDOMLY DRAFTING BLOG ENTRIES and causing MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF CONFUSION BECAUSE OF IT.

    Gah.

My friend called me this morning to tell me that "There's a LEGO thing going on downtown in Pioneer Courthouse Square, and it made me think of you, so you should go and check it out".

From the info I found on the LEGO site, apparently the LEGO summer tour is mainly for promoting the new LEGO games, as well as to "see all 10 new LEGO Games, play games against other familes for a chance to win cool stuff, and Guess the Number of Bricks in the evil Minotaur model for a chance to win a trip to LEGOLAND Park, California!", with the last stop being Portland.

I'm going to try to go and check it out, if not today, then some time this weekend, as it's going on until the 6th. It seems quite interesting, and if there's any other Portland or nearby area BZPers who are interested in this, you should go check it out!

    Watch out.

In other news, I am supposed to do a documentary photography project for photojournalism. It is supposed to last for the next nine weeks (until the end of term). Each week I am supposed to shoot at a minimum either one 36 exposure roll of film or the equivalent 75 digital images. The instructions talk about how we are not supposed to choose a subject matter that is too grandiose, or requires traveling (given the amount of bad weather we've been having). My professor gave ideas such as "activities in a campus group", "life in your apartment building", "life in the local laundromat, grocery store, etc." He also talks about how we owe our subjects honesty, honesty in our vision, in what we tell our subjects about our projects and its purpose, honesty in how we approach our subject, and honesty in what we present to the viewer.

In the end we will have proof sheets from each week, and 20-25 final photos chosen that are titled, as well as a several page paper of explanatory text about the project.

The problem is that I don't really know what to shoot. I would just go and say "I'm going to have my camera with me all the time for the next nine weeks and I will document my surroundings as I go along with each day, but that would mean one week on repeat times nine. I would do something with following the various athletic teams here and shoot photos at various games and meets throughout the term, but I'm trying to do something with that already for an independent photo credit thing, but currently that's sort of falling through, as neither side (the athletic department and my photography professor) seems to have the right info about it to get it started.

So, yeah. Any ideas? This town is small and boring as I'll get out. The last time I did a project about how the overall lack of anything in this town reflected on its surroundings, it kind of got shot down.

Yesterday I was at vault practice.

Which is all fine and dandy.

Except for the fact that one of my teammates snapped a pole during one of her vaults. Luckily, she's ok.

Which is somewhat all fine and dandy.

Except the pole she broke was the pole that all four of us girl vaulters use the most in practice and competition.

Which is not at all fine and dandy.

Oh, and the mishaps link now has a fun, best way I've ever seen to break a pole animation. It's awesome and fits quite well with this entry.

I don't know why I'm posting this, but here!

Art History I: The last of three art history classes I have to take. Mind you, because of weird scheduling issues, I ended up taking them in the order of II, III, and then I. So, one more term of listening to Cory hate on paintings of ponies. Oh man, lol.

Principles of Marketing: I have to take this for my communication minor. I'm not entirely sure how it's going to go, but it seems pretty interesting based on the textbook.

Public Speaking: This class is entirely online. I have no idea how this is even supposed to begin to work. (actually, it might be kind of cool on the sole fact that on the discussion board, my professor titled one of the forums " Thoughts, questions, ideas, a place to distribute free kittens", but now I'm wondering if it's really Smeag in disguise )

Beginning Photography: Yessssssssss. Finally got into the class. So excited!

And then, of course, track workouts and stuff, hopefully working in the art gallery again, and possibly a radio show. We'll see.

(I'm writing this while sitting in our art department (yay, school wifi!). Freshman keep randomly walking by. I keep kind of wanting to scare them as they walk around the corner)

WHY HELLO THERE MY NAME IS ANA PPROPRIET AND I AM A SEVENTY-EIGHT YEAR OLD CAT LOVER. MY CATS ARE ALL NAMED AFTER DIFFERENT TYPES OF CORN. THEIR NAMES ARE POPCORN, SWEET CORN, SUPER SWEET CORN, FLOUR CORN, CORN FLAKE, AND BI-COLOUR CORN. THEY DON'T LIKE TO EAT CORN THOUGH. THAT IS A SHAME. I LIKE CORN. MY HUSBAND ALSO LIKES CORN. HIS NAME IS HANS OOTABULL. WE WERE MARRIED IN A CORN FIELD. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T TAKE HIS LAST NAME WHEN WE GOT MARRIED 52 YEARS AGO, WE ARE THINKING ABOUT NOW MAYBE COMBINING OUR NAMES. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE PPROOTABULL. THAT WOULD SOUND GOOD. MAYBE SOMEONE WOULD NAME A TYPE OF CORN AFTER OUR LAST NAME.

ANYWAY I MUST GO FIND HANS NOW. I THINK HE MAY BE LOST IN A FIELD. OR MAYBE COSTCO.

At least, that's what the temperature was the other night at school. Luckily, I'm home for the next few days for Thanksgiving Break, where it is slightly only warmer, but hey, at least home has electric blankets. Also! Black ice on the roads is scary, and almost crashing is even scarier especially when the freeway going from school to home has tons of wrecks in ditches, and you see them and it's like "Hadthemediannotbeentherewhenthecarstartedtofishtailthatcouldhavebeenuslet'snotfreakoutnowok."

On a related note, I am thankful for many things, though one thing I am not thankful for is professors who decide that making all 22 online chapter tests due Saturday and that informing her students six days prior to this due date would be a great idea, because hey, it wasn't like they wanted to spend time with their family and friends during the break or anything.

No, I'm not bitter about this, or any of the other ridiculousness going on in this class. At all. Neverrrrrrr.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    You guys.

    You guys seriously.

There is this thing. And it's in the sky and I don't know what it is but it's all shiny and bright and it hurts to look at so I'm not looking at it, but it's making everything else really brightomgomgwhatisitseriouslypeople.

And what is this feeling....it's like, not being cold?

The sky is also....blue? And not grey?

    What is going on?!

Anyways, I'm not really sure what's happening right now with the weather here, and I'm a bit freaked out about it right now, but you should check out the mosaic project for a bit of rather exciting update!

We're updating the Blog HQ: dusting it off, putting another layer of paint on it, getting some new furniture, the works. Once we're done, it should be much more streamlined, much nicer to look at, and overall more helpful for everyone.

So, go check it out! The blog staff will update a new entry with any new rules, and then after a certain amount of time, delete the entry and add the rule to the blog rules entry. Hopefully, this will keep the blog HQ as well as the rules and guidelines much easier to navigate.

(oh my gosh, so much editing and re-editing and moving of things around, though. Wowzers)

I walked after a bus through an airport parking lot for 15 minutes in order to see EW for about eight minutes, much to the amusement of my brother and EW's troop and probably EW as well as we were on the phone with each other the whole time.

Picture ('cause this actually happened (that's right, I'm lookin' at you, Sumiki)):

I'm not really sure what he's doing here, but look at the crazy LEGO people from Oregon!

I might have outsprinted a small child at one point tonight in order to win at Bingo at my dad's company picnic. But, now I have a hand mixer and a cookie press/decorating kit, so if I ever learn how to make food or spritz cookies in a proper sort of fashion, I can put those to good use!

Crazy weekend. Oh man. So tired right now. Though, I just saw the birthday topic, which was very nice. Thank you!

(proper BrickFair entry that still needs writing that will get done one of these days, because it was AWESOME and I need to write wonderful things about it)

You've only used the cookie press kit one time. Way to go.-FN

YOU BROKE THE COOKIE PRESS. > But you got a better one, so that's ok. -FFN

So (if anyone cares to know), I decided to enter the Pimp your Blog competition (despite my better judgement as I'm leaving tomorrow to go work at a summer camp until August third, and don't really know just how much time I'll have to use the internet each day for updates and such).

But, why radio for my blog design for the Pimp Your Blog competition? I could have gone with numerous band-themed designs (U2, lady danville, Barenaked Ladies, Death Cab for Cutie, etc.) but once again, I seem to have stumbled off the map of wherever I was and into who knows where.

Radio's always been in this weird little part of my life. While every other kid in my age was off watching TV, I was listening to the radio. I love how really good DJs can make it sound like they're talking to you and only you, which is a wondrous thing at two or three in the morning when you're working on some project and desperately need some company but no one else is awake. And, in the time before social networking sites where every band and the singer's mother had their own profile page, radio kind of was the way (at least for me) to get updates on new music and upcoming artists.

I'm really lucky to have lived in Portland all my life, because there are some great stations around (not to mention some of the phenomenal bands that have came out of the Northwest), and KINK, the station that I grew up listening to had some awesome DJs working there, including one, Les Sarnoff, who pretty much is the reason I ever got interested in being a DJ in the first place. Almost everyday when I got ready for school, I would listen to his morning show. Unfortunately, he passed away from cancer this past spring, which is extremely unfortunate, as I never got to meet him and say thank you for inspiring me.

All of this sort of balled up into one big mess which eventually tumbled to college with me last fall, where lo and behold, they had a FM broadcasting class that I took so I could become a DJ at the college station, KEOL. I don't have a snazzy DJ name like some people I know do, I just go by Maddison, and my show's name isn't that great either (it's "The Random Eclectic". Our station manager Brian thought that up at the last second), but working at KEOL is still like the coolest job in the world. So much music in one place. Sometimes people call in and sometimes they don't, but taking requests and playing what the listeners want to hear instead of my eclectic mix of music is great. And the other DJs are such a great, off-the-wall group. It's wonderful!

    Hence, the radio theme.

Once upon a time, there was a little five year old girl. You could consider her relatively normal and such, except for the fact that unlike the majority of five year olds, she absolutely loooved the band The Beatles. She had a Beatles calendar (but that will be another story for another time) and would always go and listen to her parents Beatles CDs and would also eventually have several years where she annoyed many DJs at the local radio stations with her constant phone calls requesting Beatles songs.

So, anyway, this little girl had a friend, and one day, the little girl was hanging out at her friends house. At one point, her friend asked her what her favourite band was, and the little girl said The Beatles and asked her friend if she liked The Beatles as well.

Her friend replied with "Yeah, I do. I really want to put some beetles in my sister's cereal bowl one of these days."

Being so shocked by this, the little girl decided to never be friends with this girl ever again.

    The end!

And, before anyone says anything....I was five at the time, okay? In my mind, not knowing who The Beatles were was an absolute atrocity. Nowadays, I'll let it slide, but really? I was five for goodness sake!
