I am unsure whether this chapter will work, so I'm leaving it up to you! Please tell me if there are any changes that YOU think should be made!

    » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « <Day 56, 12:00 PM>
Fate frowned. Things were going as foreseen, but a tiny push was needed for the full fulfillment of events to come. Destiny twitched, and the flow of time changed slightly, flowing into a new course in the riverbed of history.

Solara felt like she was slowly walking into a lit room, moving with her eyes squeezed tight from the growing glare. Slowly, painfully, she cracked her right eye open, hoping that the lens of her Akaku would filter the glare. She was flat on her back, gazing at the sun far overhead. “How long was I out?” she wondered. She remembered, with a mental shudder, being possessed by that horrible shadow creature and forced to combat that odd pair of Toa. She remembered the enormous blast of light that had seemed to fill her up completely, and then, she remembered the brief freedom of being free from her disgusting captor. “Why am I lying on the ground?” Solara tried to sit up, but could not coax a single muscle or piston to obey her commands. And then, she remembered the last thing the Shadow had said to her before it was forced out of her body.

<I leave,> it had snarled, <and you die!> Solara then realized that her heart was not beating.

Those who knew Solara well, both in her personal life, and in her job as a camera-Toa for a popular news telecast, could attest that Solara had a will of tempered protosteel. And, as she lay there, dead on the pavement, Solara decided that death, inescapable though it might be in the long run, was not going to keep her from doing what was right. Her will sliced though the dead nerves that controlled her muscles, and Solara lurched to her feet. It was a whole lot more difficult than it had been. She hadn’t realized how much her brain did automatically, until it became a dead-weight in her head.

Slowly, as Solara became more used to controlling her body manually, she reached into a pouch at her waist and pulled out a video camera. Clumsily, she unfolded the viewscreen from the side, and rotated it so that she could see video footage of herself as she shot it. She thumbed the record button.

When the INSF troops found her maskless body hours later, lying alone on the street, they immediately noticed several things. The corpse was completely unmarked, lying in a position of calm repose, and clutching a camera. When the forensics team arrived, one of the technicians took the camera, and played the video.

The dead Toa of light’s face, covered with an Akaku, appeared on the screen. “To whom,” she croaked. She shook her head, and cleared out her throat. “To whom it may concern: My name is Solara, and by the time you see this, I will be dead. I was possessed by a Shadow Elemental, and forced to fight The Gardener. The Shadow Elemental was on commission from The Leader to kill The Gardener, but it, and therefore I, was defeated. I was mortally wounded when the shadow left my body, but I wish to tell you that the Gardener is good! He never used a single deadly attack against me, consistently focusing on eliminating the parasite within me. I was only killed by the shadow elemental.” Solara paused, looked like she was forcing herself to take a deep breath. “Tell my family I love them.” The video stopped.

Please tell me what you think!

I finally got around to finishing the contest winning chapter for Toa Novu. I kinda like it - it's the longest I've ever written in a single chapter, over 2,600 words - and I think it will go over well. It is REALLY dialog-heavy, but it's got some funny and charming parts in it, as well as SERIOUS exposition of the history behind Iri Nui.

Toa Novu, I just want to make a public "thank you" for your entry. This thing will shape the rest of the story, I think. thank you!

  3. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I am sorry to report that, due to some circumstances that I feel unwilling to disclose, that I will be unable to write anything for quite some time. I am about half-completed with Toa Novu's chapter, but that will be all for an undetermined period of time. Rest assured, however, that I will update when I have the opportunity.

Keep an ocular receptor peeled upon the forums!
  4. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I am happy to announce that the winners of the blog contest are:

Toa Novu in City of the Toa

    Darth Makuta in Shadows Fall

You should see the respective updates by the end of this week - I have finals tommorrow and Tuesday, but I should be able to write in the latter half of the week.

To remind everyone, the prizes for winning the contest are:

Have your custom plot be the backbone of a chapter in its respective epic Have your custom guest star feature in your chapter, and possibly in successive ones. Get a PM with the chapter about a day before posting for editing and comments. My eternal gratitude, and accreditation in both the chapter and the reveiw topic. Just a question: Did everyone like this? Should I do other story related contests in the future? If anyone has any sugestions on future contests or how I can make ones similar to this one better, please drop me a comment.
  5. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
just posting to remind everyone that the chapter contest ends on the 15th of this month.

I was able to do some brainstorming over the weekend, and I have determined some possible future villians - if I can get out of this rut. and now, as an exclusive spoiler, I will reveal one in this post.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Name: Splinter
Ability: Can duplicate himself or another object exponentially. Has a hive mind if duplicated, but intelligence is split between bodies. Cannot duplicate other sentient entities.

Eye beams cause target to have his personality split into his or her pure good and pure evil sides, which then enter into a hallucinogenic debate. (Shoulder Angel versus Shoulder Devil)

    Description:

Pearl and light grey Skakdi of Sonics. Former Dark Hunter. (in this universe, the Dark hunters were dissolved about a thousand years after Pohatu destroyed their fortress.) Quite insane from splitting and reforming his mind countless times. Wields a simple dagger. Extremely good at tracking through hearing (an effect of being a Skakdi of Sonics).

    Well, wasn't that tantalizing?

Prisoner Diary Entry: 45 days since capture
I hate the one called Loc. He has stolen everything from me; he stole my freedom, my friends, even my bike. I despise him with every molecule of my being, and I hope to be the one to cause his corpse to shrivel in consuming flames. I hate the one called Loc.

I have not had a dose of Pump in over six weeks. The prison doctors tell me that that is a good thing, that Pump was destroying my body, but I feel weak. I cannot bear it any longer. There is a sheet on my bed that could make a noose; I think I'll use that route.

Today, I lost my sheet priviliges. The cruelty of the system that will not allow sweet release from captivity...

I have a new cellmate today. He claims that he was captured by a male Toa of Plantlife in a brown robe called "The Gardener." I didn't tell him why I was here, but now I know something that he doesn't. That's always good in prison.

I was examined by prison doctors today, but not the same ones that examined be when I was admitted. It was an uncomfortably thorough examination. I felt like a Mahi on the auction block. There was one Toa, though, that did nothing. He just stood against the wall and watched, his Elda expressionless. He looked vaguely familliar, but I don't know why. The doctors told me nothing about why I was being examined.

Nothing happened today except for my cellmate being taken away.

I feel happier than I have in a long time. The Toa that watched my examination the day before yesterday came into my cell and told me that I would be freed if I agreed to enter in a program! naturally, I consented, and then I was whisked off to a different part of the prison. this place feels more like a hospital than a prison. Everything is cleaner, and I even get a viewscreen in my room! The Toa that brought me here, the one with the Elda, still seems familliar, but I still can't remember.

Prisoner Diary Entry: 51 days since capture

That Toa walked into may room again and began to tell me about what they were going to do to me. I didn't understand most of it, something about surgery, but I did understand that I was going to be given Overpump again! I think I'm actually crying now in relief. He also told me that, thanks to my arrest report, he now knew who the Gardener was. I was glad to help him; I think he's actually my friend. I havn't had friends since I was a Matoran, one hundred and three years ago.

I still hate Loc for putting me in prison, though.

The Leader made an anouncement today. He said that a deluded troublemaker calling herself "The Gardener" had been captured in her home. This doesn't seem right. My Friend told me that my story had told him who the Gardener was, but the Leader says the Gardener was female, and I told him that I was captured by a male Toa of Plantlife. I'm so confused...

I remembered where I had seen my friend before! he was standing in the background when I was shown a horrible bug-thing and told to guess at it's weakness. I guessed water, but that was the only thing I could think of. That Skakdi scared me. Anyway, my freind was standing against a wall and silently watching, like he was during my examination. I seem to recall one of the testers calling him "minister." Maybe that's his name!

Minister came today and told me that I would be put under surgery tomorrow. he also said that I would have to stop writing in my journal. I'm a little excited. If I can't write in my journal, that means that I'm about to do something secret. I always wanted to be a secret agent, ever since I was a Matoran, but then I was made a assembly-line worker. I finally get to live my dream!

    No more entries.

  7. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I was THRILLED when I read the SSC4 topic, and saw that it was supposed to be writing a story for an illustration. If anyone remembers, my first few stories on this site were short, descriptive, emotional stories, so I feel that my entry, Go Away, really gets back to my roots.

In other news, I have decided to push back my Blog Contest Deadline to December 15, to accomodate the fact that NO ONE has entered anything for Shadows Fall.

    Current participants:

    City of the Toa:
    Matoran Kiydo
    Toa Novu
    Teebert

    Shadows Fall:
  8. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I have about half a chapter written for City of the Toa, but I am Uber-stalled in the middle, and not happy with what I've written so far. I don't know when I'll be able to get to it, as I will be EXTREMELY busy for the next few days. As for Shadows Fall....I have no idea what I have written, and haven't actually read the story in months. There's no telling when I'll actually be able to write in that epic again.

I think I'm saving my creative juices for the next short story contest.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

    Hey, I have an idea!

I'm going to sponsor a Blog Contest.

Give me an idea for a brief chapter or scenario in either (or BOTH) of my epics, and I'll include a character of your design in the epic, either in that chapter, or later in the story.

In terms of the idea, It needs to fit the general theme of the story, and not be essential to the plot. Essentially, the idea needs to be a side-story. I will pick a winner for each epic based on:

    1) the originality of the idea
    2) the ability to be inserted into the current plot, and
    3) the "coolness" of the idea.

For the Character, the requirements will change, based on what story you have an idea for.

    Shadows Fall Character Requirements
    Name: (something pronouncable)
Species: (NO TOA! If you are a DH, Vortix, Skakdi, etc., you WILL die. otherwise, be a Matoran)
Element/power: (Matoran are powerless and in the Big Six elements (I will permit Av-Matoran, but that's the only exception). Please don't make powers absurd. Limit is one or two per entity)
    Color scheme/description: (obvious)
    Kanohi: (once again, obvious)
Job description: (for matoran, this needs to fit the Metru-Nui style, but be specific. For anything else, this needs to be a motive for being in Metru-Nui.)
Personality: (If you want, provide catchphrases and/or accents)

City of the Toa Character Requirements
    Name: (something pronouncable)
Species: (Please no matoran, unless you actually want to be 12 years old. If you are a Vortix or Skakdi, state your allignment: Loc, or Leader. Otherwise, be a Toa (NO NUVA OR INIKA). Toa are asumed to be neutral)
Element/power: (pick a power level between 1 and 9 (where 1 is Turaga level and 9 is Nuva), and an element. In this city, there are the big six elements, the Kal elements, Plant-life, Power-scream, and Light. (If you want, you can make some power modifications to your character, at the expense of either the mask power or the elemental power) If you are not a Toa, please don't make powers absurd. Limit is one or two per entity)
Color scheme/description: (I will configure the colors to my needs, to match continuity. if it's a known element, or if it has been mentioned in the story, please use that as a basis. Include height, relative weight, physique, etc.)
Kanohi: (once again, obvious. Please stick to known names and mask powers.)
Job description: (for Toa, this needs to relate to the element, but be specific/imaginative. (E.g., a Toa of Electricity is a expert in circuit design.) For anything else, this needs to be a motive for being in Iri-Nui. also, enough backstory to provide REASONS for behavior. If I don't get it, I'll make it up.)
Personality: (If you want, provide catchphrases and/or accents)

The winner of the contest will be credited in the chapter for the idea, and mentioned in the first post of the review topic. Also, the GS character will be credited in the review topic and in the chapter or chapters they appear in. They will also get the chapter in a PM a day before it is posted.

I think this contest will end on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 11:59:59 PM, BZP time. This is subject to change, based on the number of entries.

Please PM me your entry, then leave a comment here.

I will be posting the appropriate content of this post in the review topics of my epics, along with a link.

I look forward to seing what kind of things happen to the heroes!

Long loading time, why does a
    Text file take forever
To open? I just want to
Write in my epic, but my
Laptop is as slow as an XP
    On 256 meg of RAM.
    My two Gigs of Random
    Access Memory fall
Into the pit of the Sarlac.
    Will Boba Fett find them
    Useful? I think not. Windows
Vista opens a Portal into an
    Institution of Criminal Insanity.
Why can't I convert to Linux?
The penguin scares my father, he
    Fears the wrath of corporate
Masters who will not permit us
    To compute efficiently. I cannot
    Convince him otherwise. Together,
We are birds smashed into clear
    Windows.

I think this effectively communicates my distaste for my current operating system.

    Well....

This is my first blog entry ever....

You know, I've never even really kept a journal, so this is kinda new. For the next year (and maybe later, if I get a source of income), I will have some way to communicate my feelings to total strangers on the internet. Somehow, this is easier than actually telling people about how I feel.

Anyway, I should be posting info about my depressing life, the phases that my epics and other writing are going through, and other, more random things. I like random things. They are so.... deliciously random. I might also disclose Mocing status, although I probably won't have time to do mocing...

I'm also thinking about making short-story entries in the persona of some of the characters from my epics, although I'm not sure about that.

Anyway, here's to bloggin' it up!

Well, just posting to claim life. a few updates:
I am now a member of the Epic Critics Club, but have been SO busy that I've only reviewed one epic. I wound up with Pohatu Newva, Photok, Hydraxon, and Kalmah for Xmas, and have revamped Kalmah and PN. I will upload and post pics ASAP - they're pretty cool. no progress on epics, due to being busy. Trying to cope with a move back to my old school for the last semester of my senior year, so kinda stressed at the moment. Parents confiscated my laptop....I'm posting from our desktop. I was able to get everything backed up, though. I'll try to start my epics back up as soon as I can. Also, I have dial-up now.
    dial-up stinks.

Recently, I watched Shaun of the Dead, which happened to be my first zombie movie. I enjoyed it a lot, although the world might have been a little bit safer if Michael jackson showed up and lead the zombies away with the Thriller dance. The real reason I'm posting this is because I feel like a zombie. A braindead, shambling zombie. I have not slept well for the past few days, fallen asleep in several classes, and am just generally toasted.

I just need someone to "remove my head or damage my brain." Maybe then I can get some sleep.

I wish there was a zombie emoticon.
  13. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
Anyway, I actually wanted to talk about my favorite beverage: Coke Zero. I swear, this is the only diet or pseudo-diet drink I will ever like. It tastes mostly like Coke, but with a healthy dose of Fresca flavor thrown in, and with NO CALORIES! Of course, me being me, I had to call it something odd.

I decided that it tasted like the result of Coke and Fresca having a baby.... a zero-calorie baby. So now, I drink zero-calorie babies.

Anyway, I think that's pretty random...

    but that's me.
  14. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I have to admit, I am REALLY excited about the sheer quantity of new parts this year.

The only thing I am disappointed in is the Phanuva. The only one that really seems even remotely original is Pohatu, and he's essentially Kongo Mahri with funky arms. He pulls the look off better than Kongu, though. The weapons, particularly the skyblaster, look good this year, which redeems the Phanuva a little bit. I just wish Lewa had two swords...

Has anyone else contemplated the possibility of using Pohatu's 'copter clamps as toes, or something?

I do understand why the Nuva are so bland, though. The Phankuta are mostly new parts. thinkaboutit... new masks, weapons, torsos, ammo, feet, hipjoints, wings, etc. I don't really like chirox's wings, they kinda seem awkward, but that looks easily redeemable with a little creative MOCin'.

I LOVE the Tridax pods. I can just see the creepy batkuta ('nother coined word) swooping low over unsuspecting Av-Matoran, dopping energy balls full of thieir mutated essence, and flying away, leaving only ugly Kra-Matoran in their wake.

And, on the subject of the Phanmatoran...no, that doesn't work... the Av/Kra-Matoran...

    I LOVE THEM!

Do you realize that EVERY SINGLE PIECE (except for their weapons) IS NEW!?!

    Amazing!

The only gripe I have is that the bodies seem to be one-peice, but I can't be sure. I suspect, however, that the bodies are multiple peices that look good together, judging from the variations in body type in the pictures at our disposal.

In other words, I like this year A LOT!

    erm....

    kinda forgot about Toa Ignika.

He's ok, I guess. He's just a Inika w/fancy armor (the spiked armor IS nice), but the board is cool. It looks like we will see more complicated big sets this year. Of course, we haven't seen any others, but the board is promising.

    here's to '08!

  15. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
I have several things that I've been working on, but none of them are done...

The first thing is a MOC of Tech, the cyborg from City of the Toa. I have designed his natural arm, artifical arm, and head peice, and roughed out a prototype leg that I'm not too happy with. He will be an upscale model to give me room to moc him well, but he is just a little bit taller than typical Toa height in the storyline.

I also idly started on a larger-than-life hand, but that one is probably going to be scrapped.

the problem is that my parts are scattered all over the floor of my room at home, and I don't have easy access to anything. I think I will try to organize them over the holiday... but I won't be home until the 20th...
  16. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
Ok, so I was unable to turn in the paper that was due in English today, primarily because the interview I had to base it on did not have information I absolutely required. I'm a little upset, and quite depressed. Fortunately, the teacher will accept it tomorrow instead of today, and I have no other homework due tommorrow, so assuming that I can get some quick info from my subject, I should be able to finish tonight.

but right now, I just don't feel like doing anything. I think I'm going to go shoot some Nazis on Battlefield 1942. That usually makes me feel better.
  17. Soroc: Jedi of Stone
So, I'm a little less depressed than usual today, stuff has gone pretty well.

I got my big English paper done on Monday, so I don't have anything to do (which is why I'm posting this blog entry). I am currently attending a residential school for "talented" students (no, not hogwarts. I wish, though.), so if I don't have anything to do, I can just go back to my dorm.

I'm just generally cheerful today, although I'm a little bit tired. It's a beautiful day outside, although I probably won't leave the building. I got things done early, which always feels nice. It's just a good day today.

I'm not used to feeling happy...

but I could get used to it.

On a different note, don't you hate it when you're playing a First-Person shooter, and you are killed more often by your team AI than by the enemy? I was playing the D-Day level on Battlefield 1942 as an American Engineer, and I was killed five or six times by an AI on my team in an artilery position. It meant that I lost WW2, so history as we know it is toasted.
