Welcome, one and all, back to the polls for my next name! I have received a huge number of suggestions from you, the members, and now comes the chance to vote!

The rules for these polls are nearly identical to those for the last polls: every day, I will remove from the polls the six names with the least votes. There were twenty-six names entered, so tomorrow I will remove six and bring that number down to twenty. Day two will see that number brought down to fourteen, then eight, then two, then, finally, one.

You may vote once in each individual entry, voting for any name you choose.

Without further ado, here are the names!

I remembered that I would be able to change my name yesterday, but I totally forgot to make a blog entry about it! Anyway, let's make up for lost time and get started!

You may now suggest names for me to adopt for the next 45 days. I will accept any name, except for ones that break the rules, obviously.

There are no special stipulations this time, but keep in mind that I won't use names similar to ones I've used in the past! This means that strings of gibberish and [member's name] is awesome, among others, will not be accepted. Check out my display name history if you don't remember the names I've had before!

Of course, the name 'Eyru' is an exception to the rule. The winning name may have 'Eyru' in it, or even be simply 'Eyru', because that's my name!

Well, what are you waiting for? Get out there and suggest some names!

A brief note: seconding names will not help the chosen name in any way. Just so y'all know.

As was related in my previous entry, I am now an employee of an adorable little coffee shop. I have worked four shifts so far, and learned a little more with each shift.

My first shift, as you know, I started out washing dishes. My second shift saw me working the till and learning how to pull a shot of espresso.

My third and fourth shifts were interesting.

Saturday was my third day. I learned how to steam milk (which turned out to be way easier than I had thought it would be), and then began to make some simple drinks. Make some espresso, steam some milk, and suddenly you've got a latte! It's amazing! And it's only a short step from making lattes to making mochas, cappuccinos, and macchiatos.

I also learned how to make iced drinks (it was a big day). It's basically the same as making a hot drink, except you add ice and use cold milk instead of steamed milk. I made myself the best iced caramel macchiato I've ever had, which wasn't hard to do, because the majority of my coffee experience has seen me at Starbucks.

Yeah, I don't really care for Starbucks. But that's a story for another day!

Yesterday was my fourth shift, and it was so busy I didn't make a single coffee! We pretty much had a constant flow of customers, so I stayed on the till while my coworker (who just so happens to be a friend of mine) made the hot drinks. I poured ice for the cold drinks and made smoothies (which are delicious), and sold sandwiches, bottled drinks, and soup. My four hours went by like a rocket, and seemed as though I'd hardly started when my shift was over and I could go.

Now for a word about some of our customers.

I've gotten to know some of our regulars, and one of them is named Bill*. Bill comes in every morning and buys a medium coffee to go. He chats a bit, then leaves. Sounds pretty normal right?

Well, Bill actually comes back to the cafe every few hours to buy a refill. I'd estimate he comes in four or five times a day. My supervisor (who just so happens to be one of the coolest people I know) isn't really sure if she's supposed to sell refills to people who have left the building, but she sells them to him anyway. Bill has been frequenting the place for years, and he knows exactly how much everything costs. He pays for everything he buys with exact change, right down to the last penny. When he buys a coffee, he sets down two dollars and twenty-four cents on the counter. Every time he comes in for a refill, he places seventy-three cents down on the counter. He's amazing.

There are plenty of other customers with just as much personality as him, but they'll have to wait for another day. That's all for now folks.

    *not his real name.

As you may or may not know, I was recently hired as a barista at a local coffee shop.

I have no experience as a barista, if you're wondering. I have my foodsafe certificate, which means I'm licensed to work in the food industry, but the most experience I've had brewing coffee is dumping some grounds on the machine at home and making some drip coffee.

But I'm not an old dog yet; it's time to learn a new trick!

I started off yesterday washing dishes. Not very glamorous, but everyone has to start somewhere, right? The coffee shop that hired me is a very quaint little place where you can have your beverage brought to your table in nice ceramic cups. That means dishes to wash, but it's not difficult, and I don't mind washing dishes.

I quickly moved on to learning how to work the till. I've worked in retail before, so it's nothing new, but the machine is a little different than the one I used before, so it took some getting used to. I've already perfected service-with-a-smile, according to my coworker, so everything's good there.

Today was my second day, and I learned how to pull a shot. Exciting, right? My first shot was too slow, and the second and third were too fast, but after that I got the hang of it and started making some nice espressos. Granted, everything I made went towards mochas or cappuccinos, not drinks like americanos that are made or broken on the quality of the espresso, but it still felt good.

Tomorrow I'll learn how to steam milk, and maybe even start making some drinks from start to finish. We'll see! I'll make sure to bring back some stories for you guys- I've already met some very interesting people.

You know when you're watching a bad movie, but it's so bad that it's good? As in, the acting is wooden and the dialogue is terrible and everything sucks but it's stil an enjoyable movie?

Why is that? It's seriously so weird.
  9. Eyru
holy cow my mind has been blown over the past two days. seriously.

My brother was in a production of Les Mis, so I went to see it on Saturday night. It was incredible, to say the least. I've seen the movie but I've never seen the play, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was brilliant. I've actually never seen anything like it. I couldn't sleep afterwards becasue it was simply so glorious and my emotions were all jumbled up.

    hurgh

Then, as if I hadn't blown my mind enough, I went to see TDKR on Sunday, and wiped out every last trace of my brain. I won't spoil anything, but, suffice to say, it too was glorious. I didn't know how Chris Nolan was going to pull it off, but he did. It was amazing.

So now here I am with an empty skull because I've overdosed on awesome.

I'm also eligible to vote and own property, but who cares, right?

So, yeah, my birthday was on the 24th. Didn't do anything for it, as I was actually busy being a counselor at a kids' camp that I volunteer at every year. I did get some cake, though, which is all anyone really needs on their birthday.

I'm also an AFOL now, which is really neat. It's definitely an odd feeling to be an adult; it's always been that thing you think about but it's so far off in the future you can't imagine it happening.

Aside from no longer being a minor, not much has changed. I live in BC, Canada, where you can't get your full driver's licence or purchase certain things until you're 19. So next year will probably be the more exciting birthday.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my joy with all of you.

July 13th, two days ago, marked my eight-year anniversary of joining BZP.

It's really, really weird to look back on those eight years, because I've changed so much. For one thing, I've gone from being eleven to seventeen, which is pretty huge by itself. I remember my first short stories and how terrible they were. I remember the noobish stuff I did, like posting topics in the wrong places, spamming emoticons, and even PMing Bink asking to be a Moderator.

I remember trying to join the BZPRPG at one point, but not understanding exactly what it was (to be fair, the person who explained it to me called it a "collaborative epic", so it might be understandable). Instead, I wrote my own epic (which actually wasn't too bad). I remember logging on to BZP every few months for over two years; not posting, but not quite able to stay away.

I was there for Vahkipower and Kimpower. I was there for the plushies fad, the iN uR bAsE fad, the BURN STUFF fad, and the Kanoka collecting fad. I was there for most of the staff promotions that we see today. And I am still here, having seen dozens of friends leave BIONICLE and BZPower over the years.

Again, it's a really weird feeling looking back on these last eight years. It's a little nostalgic to look back and realize just how much has changed. Day-to-day, things look pretty much the same, but eight years? Well, you might say things have changed.

The cool thing is, I've never felt as much a part of the community as I do now. BZP has never been as much fun as it is now. Each year has been better than the one before. And I know it sounds cheesy, but I've gotta say it: the best is yet to come.

Love ya, BZP. Here's to many more awesome years together.

So, yeah, been majorly ill the past couple of days. Sick as... well, a dog. As I write that, I'm wondering where that expression came from. When people use the expression 'sick as a dog', it means you were extremely ill. Do dogs have a penchant for terrible sicknesses or something? No idea.

In search for answers, I'm turning to the almighty master of information: Da Google.

Apparently, the expression was first recorded in the early eighteenth century, in what was probably nothing more than an attempt to make sure people understood that the guy he was talking about was very sick. Interestingly enough, there are various other expressions having to do with being sick as a ___, with an animal filling in the blank, but sick as a dog is the only one that has stuck around. Sick as a cat and sick as a horse have long since passed away as popular expressions.

A possibility I found for this is that the tendency of dogs to eat just about anything means that they will sooner or later come across things that disagree with them, and when they do, the results are usually tossed cookies.

I have not had the pleasure of owning a dog long enough enough to see it disgorge the contents of its stomach, but apparently the results can be quite dramatic. So it makes sense that the expression sick as a dog would apply to someone who is quite ill, and quite possibly vomiting, perhaps violently (not a pleasant image, but that was me yesterday).

So the next time someone says "Man, I was sick as a dog," you can impress them with your knowledge of English expressions. And tell them to stay out of the roadkill.

Bought a ukulele the other day. Took it on the ferry and had a blast (because what else is there to do on the ferry?). It's so fun because you can whip it out anywhere and start giving it.

Stoked on life. Ukuleles are awesome.

My chemical makeup just gained half a kilogram of music, and I already had a rather large amount there to begin with.
