You know, I think it’s time I changed my display name.

(This has absolutely nothing to do with the final story update of KHX and the Ursus Foreteller being unbelievably brutal. Nope. Not that at all.)

I’m not sure what to go with, though. There are the old ones I’ve been sitting on for a while:
    -Stained Glass Pahrak
    -Pahrak III.7 HD ReNAME
    -Sinnoh Slizer
    -Professor O’Pahrak

Though, if I wanted to go with something matching my current avatar, maybe:
    -Pearl Pahrak
    -Pearlrak
    -Bird Mom Pahrak

    Hm, it’s a tough one.

    For no reason whatsoever.

-Gen I: It's a difficult choice between Charmander and Bulbasaur, but as cool as Charizard is, I just really, really like Venusaur. I even defeated a Charizard with a Venusaur once, back when I was playing LeafGreen. Anyway, plant dino is best.
-Gen II: Cyndaquil. Without any doubt, it's Cyndaquil. My early days with Pokemon were a little weird, and to be honest I don't remember a whole lot of what I did before Diamond, but I clearly remember Blaze, the Cyndaquil I chose in Gold version who grew into a fearsome Typhlosion that wrecked everything. Not being able to transfer Pokemon from Generation II to III means that Blaze was lost, but all Cyndaquils since have been named in his honor.
-Gen III: Honestly they're all pretty equal. I can remember Blaziken showing up in the anime when Gen II wasn't quite over, so it left an impression on me. I legitimately enjoy the Mudkip meme and my OR Mega Swampert is super-cool. And then there's my AS Mega Sceptile, the sassy vampire lizard plant wielding the legendary Leaf Blade. I can't choose between them.
-Gen IV: I absolutely love my Platinum Infernape--his team was the first of mine to reach Level 100 without cheating Rare Candies. But, I chose Turtwig in Diamond, and Diamond is a game that still means so much to me since it was what brought me back into Pokemon after my interest faded in Generation III. Sprout the Torterra carries a lot of great memories with him, so Turtwig will always be my favorite. Again, plant dino is best.
-Gen V: Now, this is also pretty close. Really, really close. Because I love Oshawott--it was my starter in the first Gen V game I played, and the samurai unicorn it eventually evolves into is so ridiculous I love it. But, the two Serperior I've used were, well...sort of better. So, it's very close, but I'm giving this one to Snivy.
-Gen VI: Froakie, duh. It just looks better than its competitors at every stage, and then of course there's Smash Bros. Even before that, though, training Gali the Greninja in Y made it clear to me that I had made the best choice, and I maintain that after using the other two in my X playthroughs.

So, favorite Water starter is Froakie, favorite Fire starter is Cyndaquil, and I'm going to give favorite Grass starter to Turtwig. If a game made me pick between those three to start, now that would be a tough choice...

And while I'm at it, best legendary is Dialga. (But you probably saw that one coming.)

(Oh, by the way, Sceptile was announced for Pokken Tournament and Volcanion has been officially revealed. While we're on the subject.)

Whaddaya know, we’re already getting our first Gen VII Mythical! Magearna is available starting today!

So, to get this you need to have beaten the main story of Sun/Moon to unlock the QR Scanner. Go to Pokémon.com to find the QR code, scan it, and then follow the instructions to find an NPC who will give you Magearna!

So that’s 1 of 2 Mythicals already available not even a month after Sun/Moon’s release. That’s…slightly concerning in a way…

You may remember this idea I've been going on about involving magic Queens and all? I'm thinking the title of this story will be "Divine Strength", though that's subject to change. But more to the point, I've made a rough draft of a prologue I might use for it.

...But, it's rather long. If anyone's skimming the blogs here in dashboard format, they'd really hate me if I posted the whole thing here. So, instead, I'm going to give a link to the Tumblr post. You can find the prologue here.

It takes place a few decades before the main plot, and introduces the villain who sets everything off and the (previous) Queen of Light. I will definitely be editing it at a later date, but if you could provide me with some feedback on the current draft, it'd really help me know what to edit. If you have comments, you can either contact me here or on Tumblr--either's fine. I'd be very grateful for the help!

I use the term "epic" loosely.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but a while back I found an old Bionicle lore booklet and posted some of the interesting stuff that had been dropped from the canon. One such point was a mention of a mask missing from the Ga-Suva. I got really invested in this idea, so, after some tweaking, I wrote a brief story about it.

A Mind in Darkness follows Vhisola and Macku on their quest to reclaim Turaga Nokama's Kanohi Matatu. It will have four parts, and since I'm impatient in honor of BZP's anniversary, I'll post a new one every day until we're done! So, by Thursday it'll be complete. I'd be honored if you read it!

Also, I'm working on another project, but I don't want to say much about it just yet. Expect to see it in the Short Stories forum either late this week or next week. I'll make another blog post about it, so check back here if you want to see what it is.

And, of course, Happy Birthday BZPower!

(I know it's super-early but some stuff happened and today might get out of hand so I'm getting this up while I can)

It’s time to decide who’s going to represent in the next Technic Tournament, and that decision will be made by you! Please feel free to vote even if you haven’t played the previous Tournaments, and please don’t feel like voting means you have to play Tournament 3—the more votes the better! We’ll have eight lines with 2 fighters each, so there are several stages to this process.

First, Bionicle G1. This will be broken up into a hero poll and a villain poll. For the hero poll, you can vote for any one Toa (in their original form only this time) or Glatorian, excluding Tahu, Takanuva, and Mata Nui. For the villain poll, you can vote for any one of the following: Nidhiki, Krekka, any Piraka, Nektann, Brutaka, any Barraki (excluding Pridak), Nocturn, a Skrall, Stronius, or Tuma.

    Nominated G1 Heroes Kopaka (1)

    Nominated G1 Villains Tuma (1)

For G2, you can vote for any 2 characters who have been released as sets, except for Kopaka, Gali, Ekimu, and Kulta. Since this game will run in 2016, any Toa involved will be in their Uniter form, if that affects your decision, and the Creatures and Umarak are eligible. I’ll put the two characters with the most votes in Tournament 3.

    Nominated G2 Fighters Pohatu (1)
    Umarak (1)
    Akida (1)
    Ikir (1)
    Narmoto (1)

As for Slizers, there are only four who haven’t been in the previous two Tournaments. You can each vote for 2 of them, and the two with the most votes will be in.

    Slizers Ski/Ice Slizer
    Jet/Judge Slizer (3)
    Blaster Slizer (2)
    Spark Slizer (1)

Unfortunately, all canon RoboRiders (and one fanon Rider) have already been used! So, I’ll list them here, you can each vote for 2 of them, and whichever 2 get the most will be in Tournament 3. You can vote for Virus Rider if you really want to, but I’m not going to put them on the list until requested.

    RoboRiders Lava
    Frost
    Power
    Dust
    Onyx
    Swamp
    Boss (2)
    Virus (4)

Now for Hero Factory! For the Hero slot, your options are Furno, Evo, and Rocka. For the second slot, you can each vote for any one villain set, excluding Von Nebula and Toxic Reapa.

    Heroes Furno (2)
    Evo (1)
    Rocka (1)

    Nominated Villains Splitface (1)
    Core Hunter (1)
    Dragon Bolt (1)
    Vapor (1)

On to the new lines! The one with the most requests was, oddly enough, Galidor, so we’ll do that one first. Vote for any two of the Galidor characters listed below.

    Galidor Fighters Nick Bluetooth (3)
    Allegra Zane
    Jens (2)
    Euripedes
    Nepol (1)
    Gorm (2)

We’ll also be including Knights Kingdom II! Again, vote for any 2 fighters.

    Knights Kingdom Fighters Jayko (1)
    Danju (1)
    Santis
    Rascus (1)
    King Mathias (1)
    Vladek (4)
    Kentis
    Adric
    Karzon
    Dracus

Finally, we’re also bringing in Exo-Force! There are a whole lot of eligible sets, so I’m going to link you to the Brickipedia set list and let you vote for any 2 Battle Machines.

Nominated Exo-Force Battle Machines Hybrid Rescue Tank (1)
    Mobile Devastator (1)

There you go! The poll will be closed on December 17th!

The other day I saw a surprisingly, well…surprised reaction to seeing Megaman Star Force classified in the genre of “Magical Boy.” (I mean we all know the official name of the genre is “Magical Girl” but that’s not the point.)

Granted I missed it during my childhood as well, but looking back, Geo Stelar is without a doubt the mahou shoujo Mega Man, I mean look at the facts:

-Young main character meets a non-human entity who gives them the power to transform (with a transformation sequence every single time)
-Follows a Monster of the Week format like 80% of the time
-True power comes from The Power of Friendship

Was I listing aspects of the mahou shoujo genre or Mega Man Star Force? Trick question because they’re the same!!

And now that I’m finally watching Sailor Moon, I kind of want to write a crossover fanfic where Usagi and Geo team up or something and I feel like someone should stop me but it would work

Mahou Shoujo Mega Man dang now I feel like that would make a good screen name

I've made it to the second island and have cleared two of the three Trials there, just want to see if I can make myself level my team a little before taking on the last one.

Started with Rowlet, obviously. I named him Boko and he is simply phenomenal. Not only is Rowlet the cutest Pokemon ever designed, but it's pretty darn powerful too, and Boko's only grown stronger since evolving into a Dartrix. He was all I used for a while so he's a few levels ahead of the others. I'm trying to give him a bit of a rest, but I may need to rely on him in the next Trial too.

I was sure to catch a Mudbray as soon as I could. Luckily, the Pokemon I have named Onepu came with the new Stamina ability, which increases his Defense every time he is hit, which is pretty great. He came knowing Bulldoze, and it didn't take long to learn Highhorse Power (95 power, 95 accuracy); I didn't think he'd become a powerhouse until evolving, and now I'm almost afraid to see how powerful that'll make him!

I also spent some time getting a Cubone, Wargoyle. She's been pretty solid from the get-go too, though her typing is redundant with Onepu's for the time being. I need to be careful about evolving her--apparently Cubone from Alola only evolve at night, at level 28 and up, and since Moon inverts the time of day...I want to get this right so that she can evolve ASAP, and maybe take on the next (Grass-themed) Trial.

And just before logging on I caught a Wimpod, Podzilla. It was...simultaneously difficult and easy. See, to catch Wimpod you have to actually catch it. It appears on the overworld and runs into a hole in the ground as soon as it sees you, so I didn't intercept it the first time. But once I did, one Quick Ball was all it took, thank God, and though her moves aren't great I'm confident in saying she'll fare better than a Magikarp would, and I know she'll have comparable payoff.

I really, really want an Alolan Sandshrew, but those are on island 3 apparently, and then the last slot is reserved for Lunala. It'll be a Ghost-heavy team, but I'll cope.

One thing that bugs me though: when encountering wild Pokemon, they can now call for help from other wild Pokemon. This is involved in chaining for shinies and high IVs, which is all well and good, but when two Pokemon are out you can't throw Poke Balls. And once you knock out one, the other one can call out another Pokemon right away. And then do that again. And again. And. Again. It's really rather frustrating in practice, I've found. But the only other Pokemon I want to be absolutely sure to catch before beating the game is Alolan Sandshrew. Once I beat the game and start hunting to fill the Dex, maybe I'll have more capacity to be patient with this mechanic...and more powerful Pokemon who can wipe out reinforcements in one fell swoop.

So yeah, Moon is fun thus far! I'll make another post if I come across anything else I feel like saying.

Okay so I was cleaning my room and found that little lore booklet that came with one of the old Bionicle card games. I’m curious to see just how much was dropped/retconned/etc.

“Once a paradise, the island of Mata Nui has become a place of darkness and fear, ruled by the evil Makuta. But the islanders, known as Tohunga[…]”

    Well that didn’t take long.

“Onua, the Earth Toa, watches over the land and intervenes to restore balance when it is threatened.”

Onua is Zygarde’s new form for Pokémon Z it’s confirmed

“Tahu, spirit of fire, is the oldest of the Toa, having been created when the planet was forming.”

When the planet was forming? Well…sorta…

“With his fire sword, Tahu keeps the lava moving towards the ocean, much to the annoyance of his rival, Gali.”

    Tahu u little brat

“Lewa, the youngest of the six Toa, is the spirit of air.”

They have been hanging on to that for quite some time, haven’t they…

“The Tohunga believe [Gali] is the sustainer of life, and worship her more than any of the others.”

    Gali 4 fav goddess

They reversed the image of Kopaka in here. I could maybe deal with the sword and shield being on the wrong hands, but seeing the Akaku mirrored is just…*shudder*

“They are careful not to anger him, though, being fearful of the landslides an enraged Pohatu can unleash.”

Something about the phrase “an enraged Pohatu” just makes me chuckle. Like has he ever even gotten beyond “mildly irritated”?

(Kanohi Hau) “Provides protection against overhead attacks or falling objects.”

But you’re screwed if they attack from straight ahead.

    “[Matau] can also fly[…]”

    Wait what

    “Nokama’s tool is a fork-shaped staff[…]”

Apparently “trident” is too advanced a word for the target demographic

“[Nuju’s] closest friend among the Turaga is Nokama, and the two silent Turaga often pass their time in winter on frozen Lake Naho.”

I wasn’t aware that Mata Nui actually had seasons. Also I ship it now.

“Here Whenua and the rest of his tribe toil to quarry the great rocks that will eventually be carved by the Pohatu Tohunga.”

    Personally I prefer “Po-Matoran”

“[Le-Matoran] also show affection be imitation, a gesture that is often misinterpreted by those unfamiliar with their customs.”

Okay I don’t remember this and it sounds slightly freaking adorable

“Ga-Koro is also home to a great mystery—Gali’s shrine is missing a mask. Many would-be adventurers have set out to find the mask, never to return. Nokama has recently chosen new champions in an effort to locate the missing mask once and for all.”

Hello epic-sounding aborted arc, I am now angered by your non-existence
  10. Pahrak Model ZX
Here's the first of my lectures, the origins of Bioni-Lords. Even though parts of it are a little embarrassing, and it's not exactly epic or anything, I thought you might still want to know...ahem:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Actually it was the early 2000s, somewhere in the US I won't disclose due to paranoia. I was a kid in the age where Pokemon and Digimon were the big thing, but because my parents thought said shows were too violent my sisters and I weren't allowed to watch them, so...well, in my mind I had to come up with something to counter them. I came up with weird stuff like Claymon, Transformermon, Monstermon (before I realized that the "mon" in those titles was short for "monster"...), and, of course, Bionimon. Through the years the only one that really, really stuck was Bionimon, which saw several different incarnations which were all just kind of...there.

Eventually, after I was finally allowed to watch and play Pokemon (Gold version was the first I really got into...loved my Typhlosion...), I decided to make the next incarnation of Bionimon more defined--I gave each Bionimon types and stats, and a few got special effects (Tahu, Kopaka, and Makuta)--and put it on BZPower as a game. Said game was, of course, a complete rip-off of Pokemon: you would take your starter Bionimon, a Bionidex, and several Bioniballs, and have the option of entering grass to encounter wild Bionimon on your way to cities where you would take on the Gym Leader and win masks. I even thought up different types of Bioniballs, Nui Machines (think Technical Machines), and a bunch of sidequests, including one later on where you entered a different world and actually became the Bionimon.

Several members joined the game and seemed to enjoy it, and I also held a contest--the original list had only 119 Bionimon, and I wanted an even number. So, some members sent in designs for the 120th Bionimon, and in the end I chose one that towered over all others--Mairi, with an attack that could slay most Bionimon in one hit and an effect that gave it, effectively, twice the maximum HP. The game was rather short-lived, though; the Premier who opened the topic said he couldn't keep up and had the topic closed. Since I was younger at the time I was pretty angry, but I've since outgrown that--the closing of Bionimon is actually one of the greatest things that's ever happened to me.

I wanted to reopen Bionimon, but for some reason I thought that if I made another game exactly the same it would just get shut down again because the original one was. So I completely changed it. I took the idea of becoming Bionimon and expanded upon that, changing "Bionimon" to "Bioni-Spirits." I took away the need for Bioniballs as well, for these Bioni-Spirits would turn into glass Orbs filled with sparks of energy when defeated, and humans could then use these Orbs to merge with the Spirit and gain armor that carried the abilities and powers of said Spirit. I used islands instead of cities, "Element-Lords" instead of Gym Leaders, "Battlefields" instead of Gyms, and in place of masks I used "Ultima-Orbs," orbs that were entirely one color that activated the special effects of those select few Bioni-Spirits who had them and let humans use more than one Spirit in each battle. The idea of encountering Bionimon/Bioni-Spirits in the grass was taken out--Spirits would randomly appear on the bridges between islands and in the areas of the islands that were unpopulated. I even doubled each Spirit's HP and changed it to "Fusion Energy."

A new name was needed, of course, and I came up with "Bioni-Lords": "Bioni" for "Bionicle", "Lord" as in "Master," so the term roughly translates to "Master of Bionicles." That wasn't enough, however--I felt the need to protect Mairi, the first and, at the time, only Bioni-Spirit who was not designed by me. Mairi's creator bestowed the new name "Obscura" upon his Spirit, and one Premier Application later I opened Bioni-Lords: The Game here on BZPower. More contests were held and eventually I actually held a tournament or two, and I added in healing items and a few other tweaks to the system. Other members contributed more and more, sending in Orbs outside of the contests and, at one point, new Elements were even suggested. It lasted a while, but eventually I gave up on the game and it died...though I have been searching for a Phoenix Down to use on it as of late...

Early on during all this I decided to write a story to go along with Bioni-Lords, which was actually put on BZP before the game. Bioni-Lords: The Epic was originally very simple: a kid based on me, "Khadaz" (which is "Zadakh" beckwards, more or less; I was 12 at the time, so he was also 12), would go from island to island and gather the Ultima-Orbs, and since I needed something after that I made him the "Chosen One" (generic...), destined to defeat...hm, what could a generic final boss be called...how about "the 10th Level Bioni-Lord," since there are only 9 Elements? And his lackeys, the Team Rocket of this world, can be called..."the Shade-Gang"...yeah...I'll put up guest star forms just in case people get interested.

Quite obviously, the story underwent huge revision, since it went on for, oh...three years. I procrastinate, and then you throw in writer's block and...three years. Some story points were dropped, guest stars came in, my writing improved, characters got developed...you know, stuff like that. A lot of contributions were made by other people, and in the end Bioni-Lords became what I like to call my definitive work. Since I'm impatient, I planned out a whole eight book saga, but then with a litte encouragement and thought I cut three books out and came out with a five book saga. Right now, I'm on Book 2...but I don't think this one will take quite as long as the first, even with more islands and a frequently revesited Lost Continent.

There are a few points that can be expanded upon, but I'll save them for their own lectures. I think that about covers the origin of Bioni-Lords, so...thanks for your time; I don't want to keep you any longer, so off you go! Have a nice day!

TECHNIC TOURNAMENT 3 & KNUCKLES will launch Tuesday, February 2nd!

Make sure you collect enough rings before then so you can enter the Special Stage, we need those Chaos Emeralds!

Also you can reserve a spot in the comments if you want. You can even put together a profile now if you’d like, or you can just put down your name and wait until the topic is live to do the profile.

For the profile: you have 13 points to distribute between the four methods of promotion, and each line has a bonus for certain promotions. If you promote a fighter using the method their line is tied to with the below affinities, you will have a greater chance of success, but if you use a different method, you’ll make more Widgets if you do succeed.

-TV Commercial works best for Bionicle (both G1 and G2)
-Radio Ad works best for Hero Factory and Knights Kingdom
-Internet Campaign works best for RoboRiders and Exo-Force
-Magazine Ad works best for Slizers and Galidor

Kingdom Hearts Unchained X (with the X pronounced as “chi”) has just had a major update, now renaming itself Kingdom Hearts Union X (with the X pronounced as “cross”). First and most importantly:

Illustrated KHII Kairi is available in the new Epic Medal Carnival, guaranteed within 5 draws and coming with three dots! She’s a Curaga, all attribute buff, all attribute debuf, fixed damage to all enemies, and 10 gauge recovery all wrapped into one beautiful package! With Tier 5 Guilt! Get this, especially if you’re playing for free. And, if you make her your shared medal, the home menu music will change to Kairi’s theme!

…Hm? Oh, yeah, and you can log in to get a bunch of free jewels and enough Sora & Roxas medals to Guilt it. Plus fusing Medals now gives them passive skills. And there’s a bunch of new story quests with a new Keyblade and they’ve added a proper multiplayer mode now (which is…eh). Oh, and some new Avatar Boards and new chances at old Avatar Boards, and…was there some other stuff? I don’t remember at the moment.

Side note, the Japanese version recently gained a few new story quests that introduce a new character. A laid-back edgelord by the looks of it.

But most importantly, we’ve got a great chance at a fantastic medal emblazoned with the image of KH’s best girl. Don’t miss this chance!

So Vegeta got a new form. Not unusual, in and of itself, but I’m kind of taken with the way it happened this time.

Last week, Vegeta stepped up to take on Jiren the Bland and got his butt kicked. He gave it his all and managed to look pretty cool doing it, but in the end he got knocked flat. Still, near the end of this week’s episode (after Goku doing only marginally better against the same guy), he got back up, screamed his lungs out, and vowed to defeat Jiren, win the Super Dragon Balls, and use them to fulfill his promise of wishing back the Saiyans of Universe 6. And then, new form. No name has been given yet and the explanation was incredibly vague, so I’m just gonna go with New Blue Vegeta as a placeholder.

And I mean, it was kind of a surprise. This arc’s been hyping the heck out of Goku’s new Ultra Instinct form, and Vegeta’s been trying his hardest to attain the same power so he can show him up, but in these two episodes he’s declared that he doesn’t need Ultra Instinct and will surpass his limits in his own way. You could probably still have a debate over how these two forms compare, but the bottom line is that Goku and Vegeta attained different new transformations at roughly the same time. For starters I think this is a great step in the direction of variety—rather than everyone rushing to climb the same tier list of forms, we might actually see the major characters each pursuing and attaining their own unique types of power, and that sounds a lot fresher. Gohan said something similar way back near the start of the arc, so I’m really hoping.

More than that, though, it feels like we’re seeing a subtle yet significant shift in Vegeta. He’s been spending so much time recently so fixated on one-upping Goku that many people felt his character was regressing, but now he’s saying he doesn’t need to do that. He doesn’t need to chase Goku, he can find his own way. And what helped him find that way was his determination to save someone close to him, and a few (maybe more?) others he hasn’t even met. That’s a selflessness he hasn’t shown since he fought Buu. Combine this with the early part of this arc, where he refused to train or even enter the tournament because he needed to be there for his wife when she gives birth, and we’ve got a huge shift in the guy’s priorities.

I mean, this is Dragon Ball we’re talking about, it’s never been a work of fantastic writing and it’s not meant to be, but the way Vegeta leveled up this time around just felt kind of…poignant, I guess. It was a nice surprise and it leaves me optimistic for where the series may go from here. So that’s cool.

Wow, it’s December. 2016 is virtually over, we’re in Gen VII…but there’s one last Pokémon being distributed for XYORAS!

Access Mystery Gift for Meloetta, the last of the anniversary Mythical distributions! You probably forgot about this one, since they were in the anime instead of a movie, and people don’t really watch the anime anymore. Well, except for those folks who got super into the XY series and immediately started whining when we got one look at the Sun and Moon series. They should get over it.

These are all tips that have been submitted by players. Some may be redundant, so I'll organize it later when I have the time.

Thanks to Canis, Keizah, Ninja, Pulsate, Zakaro, and Vox.

Don't buy items. All you need is two, as Onua showed us. BUY TRAINERS.
Fight in your class range. IF YOUR FIGHTER IS CLASS A, DON'T CHALLENGE A CLASS E. YOU WILL LOSE.
Put down large amounts for sponsoring. IF YOU PUT DOWN SMALL AMOUNTS, YOU'LL GET SMALL AMOUNTS.
Do not buy upgrades early game. Wait until late game. THE SPECIAL ABILITIES THEY PROVIDE AREN'T WORTH IT EARLY ON.
Look at the first three of the four fighters I reviewed. Notice anything about them? A VERSATILE ELEMENT IS KEY TO THIS GAME.
Get an item that let's you fly. FLYING IS A HUGE ADVANTAGE.
No number of stat trainers or items can make up for a lack of creativity. Don't stick to the base applications of your powers; try using them in new and exciting ways. Virtually any element can become fairly versatile if you experiment with it a bit. Pahrak will pull you back if you go overboard, so try everything you can!
Two words: lurk more. Unless you're in a match against them, you've free to look at people's strategies as much as you want. Find out what people like to do, what works, and what doesn't. I can't even count the number of times Electro's beaten a fighter with much better stats by predicting that fighter's moves.
The most important super-secret tip to succeeding in the coliseum: HAVE FUN. I know that sounds basic, but the game's kinda pointless if you take it too seriously. A lot of players have gotten frustrated and left because they were too fixated on winning. Enjoy meeting other players, coming up with new strategies, and seeing your fighters grow.
Buy items and trainers that compliment your fighting style - I cannot stress this enough, don't buy items just because they seem strong. If you're going to toss in Widgets for an item, make it something that works with your style, something you think will really come in handy. Flying items fit with just about any strategy, but other things may require you to think about how you fight.
Use your powers to their fullest - If you go too far, Pahrak will tell you. Just try out unique ways to use your powers- I've won myself several matches with Furno by using his control over fire to heat up the ground. You should find ways to use your powers in the least predictable way- use things like control over water to dehydrate the area, manipulate the arena, go wild.
Have a lot of fun - This is really important. This is just a fun forum game, so don't get mad if you lose a match or don't have a lot of Widgets. If you lose, then it was still fun to make a strategy, and you can say you learned something from the match and congratulate the winner. Just have fun with the game, don't take things too seriously, and you'll have a great time here.
As has been said before, when you have lots of widgets, don't spend it all on items. Spend at least some of it on stats, which are a permanent addition to your fighter (unless you stop sponsoring them), unlike items, which can be sold so you may end up buying something that was never really worth it. When you do buy an item, make sure you'll use it. For example, if your fighter is a Roborider and your fighter has a very high agility and you think about purchasing the item 'Handling Patch', do you really need it?
In addition to the above, when thinking about buying an item, are there any items that your fighter is particularly weak against and that you are currently bad at countering? Think about what other items your fighter could buy that could counter it. For example, fighters with high minds get one of their biggest advantages stripped away when going up against a Toa with a Suletu. To counter it, you could buy a Staff of Molecular Disruption, which destroys 1 item in a battle. This was my very reasoning behind getting one.
Try to make up for any weaknesses your fighters have with your fighters' strengths. For example, your fighter might not have a high toughness, but if you have a high agility, instead of tanking the hits, try making them dodging them instead.
Flight is a huge advantage. Especially if your opponent is grounded. This alone allows you do so much more than you can on the ground in certain situations, though in underwater arenas (if there are any) flight is useless as all fighters can swim as far as I am aware.
Try not to focus on too many stats at once. For example, some fighters focus solely on one stat like Mind whereas others focus on stats like Agility and Toughness. However, try not to leave one stat behind too much, or it will me one of your glaring weaknesses.
When going up against a fighter, try to remember their inventory of items, whether it's none, one, or ten, and make a counter for each one. If you can't counter it, at least try to resist it. If you can't resist it even a little, try to interrupt it.
Variety is a very good thing. Keep that in mind. Don't make yourself too predictable. Many others said this, and I reiterate this too.
Try to fight other fighters of your class. If there are few fighters in your class (unlikely in Classes A and B, not so much for classes above), try fighting fighters at the lower end of the class above and at the higher end of the class below, depending on whether you're in the lower end of your current class or in the higher end of your current class. It does not have to be said that a Class F fighter is going to mop the floor with a Class A fighter... ten times over.
Use your element in creative ways, in unpredictable ways, in new ways. Experiment with it. If you're having trouble thinking of examples for your element, try finding an example of a creative use of it in the Bionicle story. For example, for fighters affiliated with the fire element, at one point in Journey's End, I believe when grabbed by the throat, Tahu used his power over fire to melt Nektann's armour.
And on the lines of elements... get the elemental reforge if your fighter does not have elemental powers by default. It is by far the most useful upgrade any fighter will ever get, allowing them to do so much more. It only costs a cheap 5,000W, too!
Weapon Reforge: This is the first thing you want to get if you begin sponsoring a new non-Toa fighter. This allows your fighter to use elemental abilities, which are like the best thing ever. Also, you can have their weapon change to anything you want. Onwards to the Level-Up Upgrades!
"Level-Up!" Upgrades: If you haven't figured it out already, the 'Level-Up!' Upgrades are the set of Upgrades that add +1 point to all stats, allow your fighter to gain an extra point with a trainer after a tournament, and give you an extra ability to boot. (A.K.A Energized Proto, Core Transfer, OS Update, Meteor Armor, Legacy Gateway, Illegal Refit, and Antidermis Infusion.) These Upgrades are best for those who think that they're going to stick around for sure, and keep this specific fighter. If that's the case, I'd recommend getting a 'Level-Up' Upgrade as soon as possible, or at the least before the fighter's first tournament. These Upgrades are like loans, in a way, but can prove to be quite profitable in the long-run. I'll give you an example. Each of these Upgrades is 30,000W. The +1 to all stats with the initial purchase is worth 12,000W. Subtract and what you're really paying is 18,000W for +1 point per tournament and an extra ability. If you had bought one before the first tournament, like I did with Breez, than with 4 tournaments that's another +4 free, with each point counting as -3,000. Therefore, currently it's like I paid 6,000W for an ability. After Tournament 8, however, I will have paid nothing, and am actually being rewarded for sticking with Breez and the Coliseum for so long, in a way. TL;DR: "Level-Up!" Upgrades are like loans, buy if you plan to stick with the fighter and Coliseum.
Hordika Venom: Straight forward and simple. +1 point to all trainers you buy from now on, but you can't train in Mind. Again, quite like a loan. I feel this is best to get right after you've amped up your fighters Mind to a level that can be acceptable for the next few Classes, and then grab this and go wild with Strength, Toughness, and Agility. If you plan to eventually get Keetongu's Cure, get working because it'll take 17 separate uses to break slightly over even. If you don't, after 10 uses you're making profit.
Inika Charge: Only use this if you plan to be going BIG. Otherwise, just not worth it.
Shadow Leech: Use if you like the character, but dislike their element. It's quite cheep so it really won't be an issue.
Effect Removal: (Keetongu's Cure, Klakk's Scream) When you're done being Shadowy or a Hordika, get this.
Distance, Distance, Distance!!! My first tip is that if your fighter is the type who has high mind stat and low strength Such as my von nebula or kopaka when he began rely on distance. Try to create a strategy around keeping a distance from your opponent. You will notice that kopaka tends to rely on his ice daggers, This is because they allow him to keep a distance from his opponent and yet still deliver heavy damage. Use attacks that do not depend on you being upclose and personal with your opponent
Tip 2 goes hand in hand with Tip 1. If you have a fighter who relies on the above tactic use items that supplement that. My most favorite example is using The skakdi spine (any will work but i like the impact vision version) and Axonn's axe. These two allow you to fire energy that relies on the mind stat, which supplements the above tactic well. Many times i have used those two together along with Kopaka's ice daggers to deliver a three attack combo from a distance. That means you deliver 3 times the mind stat energy at once. Plus if you fighter does tend to have some strength Axonn's axe allows you to throw the weapon and have it return to you, And as an added bonus you can coat the blade in energy allowing a mix of mind and strength stat damage...Even better. So remember items that supplement distance
For tip number 3 i will be veering a bit. Think of strategies that will increase a stat without at item. By this i mean using your powers. For example i used to use a tactic of coating the ground of the arena with ice then using Kopaka's ability to slide on said ice, I would have him slide to increase his agility for you can move faster skating than you would running. Along similar lines i would also use momentum to try and increase strength.
For tip 4 well not quite sure for tip 4. I guess this one would be that if you do have a character that becomes a nuva remember that your fighter loses the ability to use alot of kanohi. I know i had hoped to buy the kanohi kadin item only to discover that if i bought it it would not serve any purpose for Toa nuva can not use non-nuva masks. So i guess the summary of this tip is do not waste widgets
My last and final tip is by far the most important. Never give up. Even if you challenge a fighter that is so high above you remember that there is always a chance you could win. Never be discouraged. If anything buy the Rahkshi staff of silence and use this only when fighting a fighter who is so above you. eliminating a fighters element does offer quite a huge advantage and can sway a fight to you side.

Hey, all newcomers/lower ranked players. I thought you might like it if I took the top four fighters, profiled how they got to the top, and gave out some tips on how to win: Kopaka: Vox's strategy with Kopaka has been simple. Raise your Mind Stat to extreme levels. He has also been playing for a long time; Onua: So many new players have done the opposite of Onua, the first big scary fighter. Dual Matrix bought two items, and then solely raised his stats; Millennium: Light is one of the most versatile elements. That, combined with a high Mind can make you a force to be feared; Electro: Keizah has minimized his weaknesses of horrible strength and decent toughness by making use of the fact Electro can fly, and maximizing his agility.

Asterisk Holder: Praline à la Mode

Origin: Final Fantasy V (called “Dancer”)

Was It In Bravely Default?: Yes

Overview: The Performer Job is purely supportive. They don’t have any decent methods of attacking nor the stats to make use of other Jobs’ abilities, and their defenses can make keeping them alive difficult to boot. Still, you definitely want to book them a gig, because they can give solid party-wide buffs and provide ever-handy BP boosts. Taking care of them gets easier once they learn the Buff Up support ability, which gives them a slight boost to all stats at the end of every turn, but you should still look into some abilities like P. Def Up or Armor Lore for their own safety.

Personal Thoughts: Talk about silly-looking! Try going into the most heartbreaking scene you can with two Elvis impersonators and two rabbit-eared idols and see if you can take it seriously. Well, it may seem gaudy, but Performer is actually a really nice Job to have around. Their innate ability to Save Singing MP makes all those buffs pretty cheap to maintain, allowing your healer to focus on, you know…healing, while the Performer keeps everyone strong. There’s also a simple pleasure in giving up a few measly MP to boost the BP of your physical powerhouse in preparation for one giant massacre. I’m glad we’ll still have these super-useful idols hanging around in Bravely Second. Besides, those goofy rabbit ears will actually make some sense on Magnolia!

I feel like the next anime I watch should be a mecha series, since it’s been a while since I really enjoyed a mecha series. Gurren Lagann was overhyped, and even if you count Robotics;Notes it was disappointing, just so, so disappointing.

    Anywho.

Does anyone have mecha anime recommendations? And if you recommend something big like Gundam please also recommend a starting point, I get overwhelmed easily and require directions.

Technic Tournament 3 & Knuckles is on its Title Match right now, and I’m laughing.

Partly out of rage at how the RNG seems to highly favor that wretched, boring, Sue-like shark over our challenger, I’ll admit.

But mostly over this other thing.

So, this time around, each player only gets one attempt at promotion during the Title Match—that’s it. You have one chance to bring in money for your fighter, and after that, all you can do is wait. Most people are doing what they’ve been doing even before this rule went into effect: throwing all their money in at once. Because of the additional multipliers I’m using on Title Match rolls, nearly every attempt is bringing in millions—Lucina brought in over 21 million alone.

And then there’s this post, and the fact that it resulted in a whopping 4 W.

Keep in mind, Luroka is the entire reason Pridak is in Technic Tournament, requesting the fighter when I announced the first tournament even though I had already decided on the roster so I decided to put him in Tournament 2. (A mistake, I now realize, but that’s neither here nor there.)

So I can only envision all these investors meeting up at the Tournament facility, waving around giant wads of cash, and then Luroka walks in—Pridak’s number one fan, they think, the one who will ensure the shark’s victory. And he just pulls out one dollar. Sets it down on the table. We all stare at him as the ad airs, and we find out that it has sold almost half a ticket.

And it gets better, because this is actually a great tactic! Because if Pridak wins, then all 50 million-ish Widgets this match has made is going to get divided up equally amongst Pridak’s supporters, most of whom currently have no money to their name and will be tied. But Luroka, who only sold half a ticket, has a 700,000 W lead on them.

I’m not kidding when I say this has renewed my passion for running this game. Technic Tournament 4 in 3D just got moved up.

What? This is my 50th blog entry? Well woo-hoo.
Actually, I do have some semi-interesting stuff to post about.

First of all, I can't believe I forgot to wish everyone a Happy Easter last week!!
Related to forgetfulness, BIONICLE: The Forgotten Bond is officially over. I was considering turning it into a trilogy, but since so few people like it, I'm probably just going to drop it.
Oh, and while The Legend of Korra already has two episodes online, the first two episodes air on TV tomorrow at...10 AM, I think? I'll be more excited next week when they air an episode I haven't seen yet.
And for those of you interested in Pokemon, we FINALLY have info on Black and White 2!! It took them long enough...I have things to say about this, but I think they deserve their own blog entry. Might do a special entry tomorrow.
Tying into that--I think I'm going to go ahead and make the Kyurem Spirit. I can always edit it later...oh, and I was able to complete the Spirits of the summer Hero Factory sets! Due to this, I think I'm going to start on HERO Model 2012...yes, I know it's early, but if the hour-long special is all the story we're getting for this year, why not?
HOWEVER, I don't think I'll have time to put all these Spirits online for a while. It's final project season, so I'll be busy until, oh...the second week of May.
And don't forget: I'm planning to post Kako next Thursday and Friday!! Since I've only typed up to Chapter 4, I think I'm going to try posting one chapter every Friday for now...that should get us up to finals week, and after that I can probably get more typing done. Although I will need to spend time finalizing VRHS for its June release...

Speaking of VRHS, I have updates! First, I finally thought up specific restrictions for those 'special' Spirits:
Exo-Kohrak Kal Abomination, Undead Cicada, Nikila will be treated as 180 FE Spirits, meaning you can't Track them until you're Level 5.
Trynahk will be treated as a 200 FE Spirit.
Exo-Barraki, Seeker of Darkness, Obscura: Angelic Paladin, Freeshooter, Silent Hero, Fading Memory, Luna Diviner, Graceful Assassin, Destined Key, Savage Thunderbolt, Shadow Toa Kopaka, and Locutus cannot be used alongside other Spirits or have their effect activated until you are Level 7.

Also, I came up with some preliminary rosters for the Element-Lords in VRHS, and I wanted to run them by you guys. I should first note that since VR players can fight Fire, Stone, and Earth in any order, and HS can fight Ice, Air, and Water in any order, their rosters are somewhat variable. When dealing with these Element-Lords, whoever you fight first will only use the first Spirit in the roster below; if you fight them second, they'll use the first two; and if you fight them third, they'll use all three. Otherwise, order is not important. Numbers included in case you want to look them up in the Spirit Index.
Fire: #1. Tahu, #1390. Splitface, #1320. Sir Adric
    Stone: #3. Pohatu, #1169. Evo 2.0, #1445. Tyranitar
Earth: #5. Onua, #1453. Toa Onepu, #1443. Garchomp
Ice: #7. Kopaka, #28. Toa Nuju, #1298. Nepol
    Air: #9. Lewa, #1388. Thornraxx, #178. Zaktan
    Water: #11. Gali, #942. Vapor, #860. Blastoise
Jungle: #840. Venusar, #760. Gresh, #799. Vastus, #1458. Petrified Forest, #1268. Frost Lion
Light: HERO Model 2012 (unfinished), #1280. Son Goku, #1243. Melding Teridax, #923. Water Apprentice, #953. RoboRider Nui
Shadow: #1240. Heartless Composer, #1387. Black Phantom, #1270. Toa Akhmou, #648. Makuta Miserix, #618. Mu Warrior
    Psionics*: #1441. Shiki, #485. Suletu, #955. Orde, #710. Noise Fox, #1311. Danju
Steel: #1401. Mountain Warrior, #956. Zaria, #1325. Lunar Convoy, #1377. Frenzied Swordsman, #1379. Omega
    Thunder: #1385. Surge 4.0, #1442. Thunder Lion, #954. Chiara, #1214. Fleeting Flash, #1278. Zekrom
Rahaga: Stringer 4.0 (not on the list yet), #378. Zodiakai, #1001. Ikhav Warrior, #742. Chronicler 08, #229. Jovan, #1253. Perfect Program, #1302. Avatar Roku
Dragon: #500. Ryurei, #1378. Shinryu, #1460. Singing Dragon (with a 180 FE host Spirit), #744. Crimson Dragon, #240. Kardas Dragon, Kyurem (unfinished), #682. Lance Dragon

*Because of how Shiki works, I'm not sure if I should just have the Psionics-Lord summon the other Spirits in her roster, or give her several other Spirits to use for this purpose. Any preferences?
On a side note...I was thinking that the Dragon-Lord may just start with Crimson Dragon and keep using Noise Change on each of her Spirits until they were all transformed into Parasite types. Of course, that could be unfair...any thoughts on that?

Oh, and in case anyone's wondering about the Petrified Forest Spirit, I didn't like the Hero Factory combiners this year and decided to make my own. ZMoC-15 Petrified Forest is a combination of Evo 4.0 and Rocka 4.0. He has a crossbow, a plasma shooter, a tank arm, toxic resistant armor, Hex Shield technology, and projectile Hero Cuffs that can extend from his arm, lock onto the target, and pull them in so Forest can kick, punch, or throw them.

I think that about covers it. I probably will make that Pokemon Black and White 2 post tomorrow...
