I can't believe you stumbled upon this entry.

This index is a list of terms that I intend to give information on. Essentially, it is a directory for what will eventually make up Category 472 -- the reference section of my blog. The names will be linked to the places they are described in once they have descriptions. Feel free to comment for suggestions.

UPDATE for Summer 2008: I'm still working on this project, silently. Red text denotes that I have completed an article. The write-ups get very long and detailed, so I won't be adding anything online until I figure out what to do about that, probably at least not until the whole list below is in red.

UPDATE Aug 2009: Although this project is still on my mind, it is on hiatus for all the while I am in school this coming year.

    BARA MAGNA
    • There are six arenas on Bara Magna, and Atero is the main one.
    • Iconox is ice, Tesara is jungle, and Tajun is water.
    • The disaster involved in the Vorox and Zesk's regression is dealt with in 2009-2010 story.
    • The disaster is also involved with the downgrade of technology on Bara Magna.
    • The Glatorian system did not exist prior to the disaster.
    • Skrall are generally disliked, of course.
    • Nothing happens if someone takes his helmet off. The helmets are referred to as masks, but they do not function as Kanohi.
    • Tarix uses his tube to breathe underwater.
    • Tarix's and Berix's gold-colored weapons were most likely found in ruins near where Tajun is.

    GENERAL

    • Spherus Magna was, indeed, shattered.
    • Mazeka's swamp strider is destroyed.
    • Matoran language is programming language! Making it dissimilar to the language of Bara Magna.

    Farshtey Feed 1-year Anniversary!
It was one year ago today, on September 12, 2008, when I posted the very first entry of the Farshtey Feed. What a great response I've gotten over the past year! Here's a great big thanks to you guys for making the Farshtey Feed a pleasure to run.

Does movie Mata Nui have a mouth? \/

    GLATORIAN LEGENDS
    • Greg: "[The summer line is] being called legends because we had to call them "Glatorian something" to keep Glatorian in the name, and Legends tied in nicely with the name of the movie."
    • Mata Nui's new body will not be made of protodermis, since it is made of materials of Bara Magna.
    • The Ignika cannot share its thoughts or memories with Mata Nui.
    • A larger-scale version of the Mata Nui model will be released as a store exclusive.
    • Kiina is female and is older than Gresh.
    • Stronius is a Skrall.
    • Greg: "Stronius is part of a Skrall class that would be the equivalent of "special forces" who showed great heroism in battle, hence his having a name."
    • Ackar was the Glatorian champion in past years.

    GLATORIAN
    • Greg: "[M]ost Glatorian are more like Strakk than like Gresh -- Gresh is young and idealistic. Most Glatorian are military veterans and for them this is a job -- it's how they get their food and shelter and equipment. It's not being done for noble and heroic reasons. They are basically like boxers, they fight because they get paid to do so."
    • Greg: "Certavus was a Glatorian from Iconox, who perished some time ago from natural causes after thousands of victories in the arena. He is the Glatorian equivalent of Babe Ruth or Muhammad Ali, basically."
    • Certavus was a champion of the Glatorian tournament.
    • All Glatorian are allowed to participate in the tournament, and most of them do.

    GENERAL

    • Crotesius and Scodonius will be included in sets, but Kyry and Kirbold will not.
    • Greg: "Spherus Magna did not "turn into" anything and the Agori on Bara Magna always lived there."
    • Greg: "Matoran name themselves. Countless Matoran have come into being since the Great Beings created Mata Nui, and the GBs are not around to name anyone."

    BARA MAGNA
    • The Sea of Liquid Sand is like quicksand.
    • Greg believes Atero is south of the Bone Hunter camp.
    • Greg: "Beware the sand bat."
    • The giant mechanical body parts scattered throughout Bara Magna relate to future story.
    • The rock Agori have always been with Tuma and the Skrall, and they are essentially "support staff" for the Skrall. This is a militaristic group, where the army comes first before anyone else.
    • There will be other Glatorian sets this year.
    • Some Glatorian own the vehicles they use in combat.
    • There aren't a ton of Agori on Bara Magna. With the limited resources, villages can't support thousands of Agori, there just isn't enough food and water for that.
    • Bara Magna was never enormously populated nor as advanced as Metru Nui or our own society.
    • The Skrall only recently moved south; they aren't native to where they are living now.
    • The Glatorian and Agori are not artificial constructs.
    • It was not a natural evolution that made the sand tribe what they are, it was their reaction to a disaster.
    • There is a metal that is considered very valuable on Bara Magna, but it's valuable because of its practical use, not just because it is.
    • The Skrall that fought Gresh was the same one that relayed the informant's information to Tuma.
    • Agori from the fire, jungle, ice, and water tribes live in Atero.
    • Gresh, Tarix, and Strakk are traveling to Atero.
    • Malum has contempt for Raanu for exiling him.
    • Only a Glatorian's own tribe would exile him for crimes in the arena.
    • Inhabitants of Bara Magna cannot tap into inner light or shadow.
    • Greg, on Kanohi use on Bara Magna: "In this case, it is not a question of willpower. Kanohi were designed for Toa, Matoran, Makuta, etc., and we know that taking the masks off affects them in some way (weakening, going into comas, things like that). This is because the masks are linked to them mentally, which is also why they can be mentally controlled by the wearer (if they can use mask powers). The residents of Bara Magna are not Toa or Matoran or Makuta, they are not artificial constructs for whom these masks were designed, so if they did wear one, it would be just that -- a mask to cover your face. It would not be linked to their mind, so taking it off wouldn't bother them and they would have no way to trigger it. It would be like me handing you a spark plug and expecting it to power you up the way it does my car engine. But you're not a car engine, you're not built to use a spark plug, so it won't work."

    GREAT BEINGS
    • Spherus Magna no longer exists in the main universe.
    • Greg: "The AI of Mata Nui and the inhabitants of his universe was better than the GBs knew it would be or planned for it to be."
    • A second Great Spirit or synthezoid of Mata Nui's type was never created.
    • Great Beings will not be released as sets.

    MATORAN UNIVERSE
    • Mata Nui's body does have weapons systems.
    • Teridax probably teleported Axonn, Brutaka, and Keetongu to separate locations.
    • Miserix is not dead and may be subject to illusions of Teridax.
    • The southern islands are unexplored and full of dangerous Rahi.
    • The Mask of Intangibility cannot additionally turn someone else in contact with the user intangible.
    • A non-Nuva Toa could also link with an Av-Matoran.

    Tch, what happened this week?

    GENERAL
    • Element Lords will be illustrated in Legends of Bara Magna.
    • Kiina regards Gresh like a little brother.
    • Tuma and Metus used each other. Tuma was getting information and a go-between with the bone hunters, and Metus was getting a chance to survive the coming war.
    • The Agori of the united villages dragged the robotic head from Roxtus because the Rock Agori had fled the village at that point.

    SPHERUS MAGNA
    • The Great Beings ruled the planet of Spherus Magna as a whole as a group; they did not have an overall leader among themselves nor did they break up responsibilities by region.
    • The following occurred in this chronological order: the creation of the Element Lords, Sahmad's plague 103,000 years ago, the creation of the Mata Nui prototype.
    BARA MAGNA
    • Everyone except the Vorox can and does use vehicles.
    • The Glatorian probably received their mechanical implants during the war. As for the others' implants, since the war, a number of equipment caches left behind by the GBs have been looted.
    • Agori in vehicles can participate in the Great Tournament.
    • Fero most likely received his Skrall-style sword as payment for captives.
    • Greg, on the traitor's motivations: "My feeling is that he/she figures the Skrall will win in the end and wants to be on the winning side."
    • There are Agori who live in the wastelands.
    • Explosive Thornax are used only once in a while in arena matches, and most often in vehicle combat.
    • Only some of the villages were in Bara Magna before the Shattering. Others, like Iconox, were not.
    • There are female Vorox, who are essential to tribe life.

    GLATORIAN
    • Both Ackar and Gresh are friends with Kiina and would trust her with their lives.
    • Greg, on Vulcanus-Malum relations: "I don't think they hate him, but they are angry at him for not being able to control himself and so costing them a Glatorian, and I think they fear him as well."
    • Raanu's two best trainees get killed in Raid on Vulcanus, which is why there is no replacement for Malum.
    • Ackar feels his fighting skills have eroded.
    • Gelu plays a large role in Raid on Vulcanus.
    • Perditus is a Vulcanus Glatorian, who has chosen to specialize in vehicle combat rather than vie to be a Prime or Second Glatorian.

    SKRALL
    • Female Skrall have pretty much always been shunned. They do not live anywhere near the desert and are not involved in the Bara Magna social system; they live in the northern regions of the Black Spikes.
    • Skrall who are found guilty of wrongdoing are generally executed to make an example.
    • There have never been female leader-class Skrall.
    • Tuma's green Skrall shield is an invention of the movie animators.

    MYSTERY TRIBE
    • Sahmad sometimes stays in Roxtus, he is not from Roxtus. He does not belong to any of the six known tribes.
    • Exclusive BS01 info from Greg: "Sahmad was a member of one of the tribes of Spherus Magna prior to the Shattering. Around 103,000 years ago, his tribe was decimated by a mysterious plague, and the few survivors were shunned by all other Agori for fear of carrying the disease. Following the Shattering, Sahmad was left stranded on Bara Magna, where he took up residence in the wilderness, all the while developing an increasing hatred for other Agori."
    • Sahmad is not the only survivor of his tribe, although very few remain.
    • Sahmad is a slaver, selling captured Agori to the Rock Tribe.
    • Telluris is an Agori of the same tribe as Sahmad.
    • Since the plague destroyed Sahmad's tribe, its Element Lords was most likely killed since he or she had no army.
    • Telluris's Skopio XV-1 was created before the Shattering.

    MATORAN UNIVERSE
    • Skakdi are carnivorous, though they don't need to be. They do it more to frighten others, who find actually eating with your mouth repulsive.
    • The extra 2007-themed comic will feature Hydraxon vs. Pridak.
    • Greg would guess the inhabitants of the Matoran universe are all aware that they are living inside Mata Nui's body, since they all heard Teridax's speech.
    • The amount of EP Mata Nui was sent out with in order to power himself was insignificant in comparison with the amount on Spherus Magna.

    GENERAL

    • Greg says he knows the US release date for The Legend Reborn to be September 15.
    • Tarix and Vastus briefly show up in the movie. The Skopio XV-1 vehicle does not show up, but the creature that inspired it does. Sahmad does not appear.

Toa Pohatu was a Toa of Stone and one of the Toa Mata. He was gifted with the elemental power of stone; wore a Kanohi Kakama, the Great Mask of Speed; and had specialized feet that could be used for precision kicks. Pohatu and the other Toa Mata were a part of the legend of Mata Nui, a legend that the Turaga of Mata Nui often told to the Matoran during the millennium between the Great Cataclysm and the Toa Mata’s arrival. The legend itself was spawned by a mix of common Matoran legends, the past experiences of the Turaga as the Toa Metru, and Turaga Vakama’s visions.

The legend, as the Matoran of Mata Nui knew it, stated that the Great Beings sent the Great Spirit Mata Nui from the heavens into the world to care for all living things. Mata Nui brought with him the Matoran to the paradise that was the island of Mata Nui, named so in his honor. Mata Nui gave the Matoran the Three Virtues to live by: unity, duty, and destiny; and the Matoran lived happily under Mata Nui’s loving protection. Unfortunately, Mata Nui’s dark brother, the Makuta, had followed Mata Nui from paradise and coveted the world and all that his brother had. Makuta cast a spell over Mata Nui that caused him to fall into a deep slumber. Then, Makuta claimed the world as his own, bringing darkness and destruction everywhere. Fields withered away, sunlight grew cold, and the ancient values of the Matoran were eventually forgotten. However, all was not lost; for the Great Beings would send six mighty Toa to defeat Makuta and awaken Mata Nui once more; and one day, the Toa finally did appear.

Like his fellow Toa Mata, Pohatu’s origin before coming to the island of Mata Nui is very mysterious. He probably came into being about 95,000 years before he arrived on the shores of Mata Nui. He had never been a Matoran prior to being a Toa, and it is possible that he and the other Toa Mata’s sole purpose was to serve as a failsafe for the Great Spirit Mata Nui should he ever have fallen into danger. As happens with every Toa, Pohatu’s spirit star came into being, which rested in the sky above Mata Nui. Whatever island that Pohatu and the rest of the Toa Mata came from, they were trained in the use of their powers as Toa: the use of their elemental powers, the use of Kanohi, and the ability to form Toa Kaita. A Matoran local of the island once described the place as the “world that feeds the world,” the “wellspring of flame that burns none but its bearer until nothing is left, not even ashes.” Some time later, on the same island, the Toa Mata willingly put themselves into transportation canisters that the local Matoran created especially for them to fall into a deep sleep and await a call to action.

The Toa Mata’s call came when the Great Cataclysm occurred and Mata Nui was cast into endless slumber. Their canisters were activated and rocketed up into the sky above Mata Nui to safely fall back down again into the ocean surrounding the island. Had their canisters been working properly, the Toa would have arrived on the shores of Mata Nui, made their way underground to Metru Nui, and found a way to defeat Makuta while he was still weakened and awaken Mata Nui. Unfortunately, an unintentional mechanical fault caused their canisters to malfunction. Instead of steering themselves toward the island of Mata Nui, the canisters floated freely in the ocean with the Toa inside of them for a thousand years. Due to their prolonged time sealed in the canisters, some of the Toa’s biological ligaments decayed over time, causing some of their mechanical parts to fall apart. Their memory faded during that time as well. All the while, on Mata Nui, Makuta harassed the Matoran for a thousand years with his Rahi beasts.

A thousand years after the Great Cataclysm, the adventurous Matoran Takua gathered the Toa stones from all over the island of Mata Nui and brought them together at the Kini-Nui. In doing this, he unwittingly sent a beacon to the Toa’s canisters that finally steered them toward the island. Pohatu’s canister washed up on the northern coast of Po-Wahi. The canister opened, and Pohatu’s loose body pieces flew out onto the sandy beach. Pohatu reassembled himself, his organic tissue regrowing once he fitted his mechanical parts back together. Once Pohatu noticed his Kanohi Kakama lying in the sand and put it on, he felt a surge of energy course through them that he had probably not felt for centuries. Just as the Matoran’s legends had foretold, Pohatu remembered nothing except dreams of darkness and his own name.

Pohatu promptly traveled inland to Po-Koro, where Turaga Onewa and the Po-Matoran lived. Pohatu’s arrival was greatly celebrated. Turaga Onewa told Pohatu of their situation: how Makuta had been using the Rahi to harass the Matoran for centuries, and how Makuta had cast the Great Spirit Mata Nui into endless sleep. Onewa informed Pohatu that, in order to gain the strength needed to defeat Makuta, he and the other Toa needed to go on a quest for the Kanohi masks of power that were hidden all over Mata Nui. Additional to his Kanohi Kakama, Pohatu would have to collect five other Great Kanohi – Hau, Pakari, Miru, Akaku, Kaukau; and retrieve five Noble Kanohi – Huna, Ruru, Mahiki, Matatu, and Rau – that had been stolen by the Rahi.

Pohatu set out from his village to find the other Toa. He used his mask of speed to run all the way from Po-Koro to the slopes of Mount Ihu. It was there that he found Kopaka, who had been searching for his first Kanohi mask, when he accidentally buried the Toa of Ice in rocks while testing his elemental power of stone. Kopaka, getting himself back up again, did not welcome Pohatu’s presence; but Pohatu still tagged along as Kopaka climbed to the peak of Mount Ihu. After Kopaka found a Kanohi Hau at the top of the mountain, he spotted the other Toa down below with his Mask of X-Ray Vision. Pohatu followed Kopaka as he started back down the mountain to meet them. As the two Toa made their descent, however, a Kane-Ra attacked the two Toa. Pohatu helped Kopaka defeat the Rahi beast.

All six Toa met each other at the bottom of Mount Ihu. Pohatu supported the idea of the Toa working together as a team to collect the Kanohi masks. After a heated discussion, however, the Toa decided to split up to find the Kanohi masks of power on their own rather than working together as a whole. The Toa then got a first taste of Makuta’s own power when he sent a brief combination of hail, lightning, and an earth tremor against them to disrupt the meeting.

Pohatu departed from the meeting alone. Over time, he battled his share of Rahi and other forces that Makuta used against him in his efforts to collect Kanohi masks. As Pohatu collected Great Kanohi, the masks were teleported back to the Po-Suva when they were not in use, and could be summoned back and forth for Pohatu’s use at any time. If Pohatu came across a Noble Kanohi, he returned it to Turaga Onewa when he had the chance. As Pohatu collected more and more Kanohi, he gained more and more abilities from the Great and Noble Masks.

At some point, Pohatu returned to his village of Po-Koro, where he found that the Po-Matoran had fallen victim to some sort of sickness. Pohatu connected the mysterious illness to the fad of popular Koli balls called Comets that the Po-Matoran Ahkmou had been selling. It turned out that all of Ahkmou’s Comets had been infected with Makuta’s darkness, which had started to spread to the Po-Matoran. Ahkmou fled Po-Koro before Pohatu and Turaga Onewa had a chance to catch him. When Pohatu searched the Po-Wahi quarry, he found Takua in a Nui-Jaga nest that held Ahkmou’s secret cache of infected Koli Comet balls. The resident Nui-Jaga temporarily blinded Pohatu with its venom, but Takua helped Pohatu destroy the nest along with the Koli balls. Pohatu returned to Po-Koro to help the Po-Matoran recover.

After the Toa realized they all had limited success in finding the Kanohi masks alone, Onua called a meeting near his landing site. Pohatu met up with Onua and Lewa. The rest of the Toa returned from all over the island to discuss their situation. After a great battle against the Rahi and Makuta’s power over the island, this meeting ended in one unanimous decision: the Toa would work together as a team.

The Toa turned to the Ta-Matoran for the location of the next hidden Kanohi mask to find. The Ta-Matoran told the Toa that Tahu’s Kanohi Miru was beneath the waves of the shoreline just south of Po-Koro. With this in mind, the Toa traveled to this location as a group, although they still wasted much time on petty disagreements. When they arrived, the Toa who already possessed the Kanohi Kaukau – Onua, Kopaka, and Gali – went underwater to retrieve the mask while Pohatu, Tahu, and Lewa guarded the beach. The Toa underwater encountered a Tarakava from which they removed its infected mask. The Toa retrieved Tahu’s Miru and returned to the surface successful.

After the Toa collected several more Kanohi with significant success, they split off into two groups to find Pohatu’s two last Great Kanohi. Pohatu, Lewa, and Kopaka went to Po-Wahi; and Tahu, Onua, and Gali went to Le-Wahi. Lewa successfully retrieved Pohatu’s Kaukau from halfway down the highest bluff in Po-Wahi. In the end, both groups were successful, and met up with each other once again.

The Toa’s quest for the masks finally ended in the drifts of lower Mount Ihu where they found Tahu’s Kaukau. After the Toa had collected all of the Great and Noble Kanohi and had for the most part freed the Rahi from Makuta’s control, they were uncertain of what to do next. They had heard rumors of Gold Kanohi, and both Kopaka and Gali had had brief, mysterious visions of the Toa Kaita and of a massive temple in the center of the island. The Toa, having each collected all six of their necessary Great Masks, returned to their Koro. When Pohatu visited the Po-Suva in Po-Koro, where his Great masks were kept, and placed his own mask on it, his six Great Kanohi formed a single Gold Kanohi in the shape of his Kanohi Kakama.

Armed with his new Gold Kanohi, which gave him the powers of the six Great Kanohi he had collected, Pohatu journeyed with the other Toa to the Kini-Nui. It was there that they met the Chronicler’s Company, who agreed to defend the Kini-Nui from the Rahi while the Toa were facing Makuta. The Toa then unlocked an underground passageway to Mangaia, Makuta’s underground lair, through the Kini-Nui with the Makoki stones. The Toa traveled through this tunnel down to Makuta’s realm. When, on their way to Makuta, the Toa encountered the Manas – Makuta’s two most powerful Rahi guardians – they could not find a way to defeat them until they merged their beings together to form two powerful Toa Kaita. Pohatu merged with Tahu and Onua to form Toa Kaita Akamai. The Toa Kaita were able to defeat the Manas and move on toward Makuta’s inner lair.

Once the Toa Kaita reached Makuta’s inner lair, they split apart once again into the six Toa. It was there that the Toa faced the Shadow Toa – dark essences of themselves given independent life by Makuta. The Toa were evenly matched against their Shadow Toa counterparts. The Toa, faced with essentially fighting themselves, still managed to triumph by acknowledging that the darkness was a part of them, just as it was a part of all beings. This realization enabled the Toa to reabsorb the Shadow Toa back into their bodies, ending their threat.

With the Shadow Toa defeated, the Toa faced the Makuta himself. Makuta revealed only a small part of his true form to the Toa, at first taking on the appearance of a pitted, scarred, infected Matoran. Then, after greeting the Toa, he transformed into a mass of tentacles that quickly beat back the Toa. Even with their mask powers, the Toa were rapidly caught up in an intense battle that did not seem to press on in their favor. It was only when the Toa used their elemental powers together against Makuta’s being that they were able to defeat him. Makuta, beaten, mysteriously disappeared. After their great fight, the Toa started back up to the surface of Mata Nui victorious. The Toa, it seemed, had saved the island of Mata Nui and its Matoran at last.

When the Toa reached the surface, they did not hear the sounds of peace but the sounds of turmoil all over the island’s landscape. They found a Ta-Matoran near the Kini-Nui who repeated one word over and over: Bohrok. The Toa used their Kanohi to speed their way to Ta-Koro to investigate, where they found mysterious creatures attacking the village. As it turned out, these new creatures were swarms of Pahrak and Kohrak. The Toa were able to drive away these creatures; but the Toa had just faced Mata Nui’s newest threat: the Bohrok swarms.

As the Toa stood around a single fallen Pahrak, Turaga Vakama told the Toa the legend of the Bohrok, which was yet another prophecy spawned by his visions. This legend stated that the Bohrok had slept a seemingly endless sleep for thousands of years. When they wakened, they would rampage throughout Mata Nui and devastate the island. The weakness of any Bohrok, however, was its Krana – a purely organic creature within the Bohrok’s head plate that guided the Bohrok on its mission and gave it extra power. Even the mightiest of Bohrok would be rendered helpless if parted from its Krana.

Turaga Vakama told the Toa of a new mission: to gather the eight Krana breeds from each of the six Bohrok swarms – a total of forty-eight Krana to collect. The Toa took a Krana Xa from the fallen Pahrak. As leader, Tahu ordered the other Toa to return to their Koro to make sure their villages were safe and to start on their mission to gather the Krana.

Pohatu was the first of the Toa to reach his own Koro. He arrived just in time to save the Po-Matoran Hafu from a Tahnok swarm closing in on the Path of Prophecies. Po-Koro continued to lay siege to the Tahnok. Pohatu later helped defend Po-Koro against a Pahrak swarm, collecting a few Krana in the process. Pohatu was unable to drive off the Bohrok; and after a swarm of Lehvak arrived at the gates of Po-Koro, the village was evacuated.

While the Po-Matoran fled to Ga-Koro, Pohatu met up with Onua, Kopaka, and Gali to prepare a Tahnok trap in the Tiro Canyon. Onua dug a tunnel from the canyon wall to the sea, and Kopaka froze the opening. Onua and Kopaka left, while Pohatu and Gali waited to spring the trap. When a group of marauding Tahnok marched through the canyon, Pohatu kicked a boulder that shattered Kopaka’s ice plug, causing the waters to gush out of the opening and flood the canyon. Pohatu watched as Gali quickly dove into the already boiling waters and retrieved four Krana from the submerged Tahnok. The two fled when the Tahnok started climbing up the canyon wall toward them. The Tahnok later caught up with Pohatu and Gali in another canyon in Po-Wahi. Pohatu stopped the swarm with a rock wall; and Gali flooded the canyon with her elemental power of water, dissuading the Tahnok from following them.

Pohatu traveled up the foothills of the Mangai Volcano with Gali, where the two met up with Tahu and Kopaka, who had discovered the entrance to the Bohrok nest. Onua and Lewa soon arrived; and when the Toa summed up the Krana they had collected, they realized that they had gathered all they needed. At Lewa’s suggestion, the Toa wasted no time in traveling with their Krana to the entrance of the underground Bohrok nests. The Toa descended into the tunnel, trying their best to avoid exiting Bohrok and fighting past them when they could not. After the Toa traveled into the tunnel for some distance, Tahu descended down an opening in the floor that sealed itself shut once he was inside Tahnok nest below. Meanwhile, a slab of stone suddenly came down and sealed the tunnel ahead of the Toa waiting up above. The five Toa then faced a surge of lava flowing down the tunnel they had come just down through. Desperate to escape, Pohatu and Onua worked on shattering the stone slab while Kopaka tried to slow the lava flow. Despite all of Pohatu and Onua’s strength, they could not produce even a scratch in the stone. It was Lewa, who had survived the experience of having a Krana attached to his face, who realized that the stone slab was an illusion. Once the Toa stopped believing that the stone was actually there, it dematerialized. The five Toa escaped from the tunnel and met up with Tahu once again when he burst through the floor, having heated the air in the Tahnok nest until the air pressure blew the nest apart.

The floor gave way under the Toa, sending them falling into a large chamber below. The Toa used their mask powers to cushion their fall and landed safely. They noticed special niches in the ground specialized for the Krana they carried, so they placed in them the Krana they had worked so hard to collect. Once the Toa did this, the ground shook, causing six doors in the walls of the chamber to crumble. The doorways revealed six entrances, and each Toa went into his own passageway. The Toa discovered Exo-Toa armor in the new chambers, which gave them more power than ever before.

Coming back to the larger chamber and occupying the suit of Exo-Toa armor, Pohatu watched as Tahu encountered Cahdok – one of the Bahrag, twin queens of the Bohrok swarms. Tahu drove Cahdok back into the larger chamber as Lewa and Kopaka drove Gahdok into the area as well. The Toa quickly surrounded the Bahrag and drove them into the center of the chamber as a strategic move. However, the Bahrag’s symbiosis allowed them to grow more powerful as they came closer together. When the Toa attacked the Bahrag with the new weapons of the Exo-Toa, they had no effect. Despite the new power that the Exo-Toa gave the Toa, their battle with the Bahrag did not seem to be in their favor. Most of the Toa were promptly overcome, and they found themselves once again fighting a battle that did not seem to move along in their favor. Cahdok’s illusions tricked Pohatu and Onua into fighting nothing but empty air. When Tahu faced a stone barrage from Gahdok, Gali called out to Pohatu to help him. Pohatu came back to reality and threw a huge boulder between Tahu and Gahdok that cut off the attack. Tahu finally reasoned that the only hope to win the fight was to get out of the Exo-Toa, which hindered the use of the Toa’s elemental and Kanohi powers. After he ordered the Toa to shed their Exo-Toa armor, the Toa attacked the Bahrag as one, this time combining their elemental powers in a single beam against the Bahrag. This beam of the Toa’s six elemental blasts combined created a barred cage of indestructible solid protodermis around the Bahrag, imprisoning them. Because of this, the Bahrag’s mental link was cut off from the Krana, and in turn cut off from the Bohrok. The Bohrok all over Mata Nui ceased their rampages at once, and the Toa had saved Mata Nui once again.

Immediately after the Bahrag’s defeat, the Toa were drawn into tubes in the floor of the chamber that were filled with energized protodermis. As destiny would have it, the Toa were transformed by the substance into something more powerful than any other Toa had ever been, with greater elemental powers, stronger Kanohi masks, and shiny new armor. No longer were they Toa Mata. Forever after, they would be known as the Toa Nuva. Pohatu became known as Pohatu Nuva.

Throughout his existence, Toa Pohatu possessed the elemental power of stone, which essentially allowed him to create and manipulate stone by using elemental energy. Pohatu could also absorb elemental stone energy from his surroundings to replenish it in himself. Pohatu had considerable physical strength, particularly in his legs; but he also disliked water, as he sank like a stone. Before he received his gold Kanohi, he favored to wear his Kanohi Kakama, which he had possessed even before the time he arrived on Mata Nui. Pohatu also had enhancements on his feet that allowed him to make very precise boulder kicks. Pohatu had always been the most easygoing of the Toa, believing that the Toa would be better served if they all got along with each other. He upheld this attitude even in the face of such extreme personalities as Tahu and Kopaka. Pohatu was widely regarded as a loyal and reliable comrade, a good friend to have beside oneself in a fight.

A specific group of Toa named the Toa Mata – Tahu, Toa of Fire; Pohatu, Toa of Stone; Onua, Toa of Earth; Lewa, Toa of Air; Kopaka, Toa of Ice; and Gali, Toa of Water – was simply known to the Matoran of Mata Nui as “the Toa.” Just like all Toa, they were gifted with amazing elemental powers and Great Kanohi masks. Their name referred to the Great Spirit Mata Nui, as it was their destiny alone to awaken him. Led by Toa Tahu, the Toa Mata were a part of the legend of Mata Nui, a legend that the Turaga of Mata Nui often told to the Matoran during the millennium between the Great Cataclysm and the Toa Mata’s arrival.

The Toa Mata’s past before coming to the island of Mata Nui is very mysterious. The Toa probably came into being about 95,000 years before they arrived on the shores of Mata Nui. They had never been Matoran prior to being Toa, and it is possible that their sole purpose was to serve as a failsafe for the Great Spirit Mata Nui should he ever have fallen into danger. As happens with every Toa, their spirit stars came into being, which rested in the sky above Mata Nui. Whatever island that Tahu and the rest of the Toa Mata came from, they were trained in the use of their powers as Toa: the use of their elemental powers, the use of Kanohi, and the ability to form Toa Kaita.

A thousand years after the Great Cataclysm, the adventurous Ta-Matoran Takua gathered the Toa stones from all over the island of Mata Nui and brought them together at the Kini-Nui. In doing this, he unwittingly sent a beacon to the Toa’s canisters that finally steered them toward the island. The Toa Mata’s canisters each landed on the coast of their Toa’s corresponding Wahi. Each of the canisters opened, and the loose pieces of each Toa’s body flew out onto the beach. The Toa reassembled themselves, their organic tissue regrowing once they fitted their mechanical parts back together; and once they put on their Kanohi masks, they felt a surge of energy course through them that they had probably not felt for centuries. Just as the Matoran’s legends had foretold, the Toa remembered nothing except dreams of darkness and their own names.

The first thing the Toa did after arriving was to travel inland and find their Koro (except Gali, who found Ga-Koro later), where the Turaga and Matoran lived. The Turaga told each of the Toa Mata of their situation: how Makuta had been using the Rahi to harass the Matoran for centuries, and how Makuta had cast the Great Spirit Mata Nui into endless sleep. The Turaga informed the Toa that, in order to gain the strength needed to defeat Makuta, they needed to go on a quest for the Kanohi masks of power that were hidden all over Mata Nui. Additional to the Great Kanohi that each of the Toa already wore were the thirty Great Kanohi that were hidden all over the island and the thirty Noble Kanohi that had been stolen by the Rahi. The types of hidden Great Kanohi were Hau, Kakama, Pakari, Miru, Akaku, Kaukau; and the types of stolen Noble Kanohi were Huna, Komau, Ruru, Mahiki, Matatu, and Rau.

The six Toa all met each other later at the bottom of Mount Ihu. After a heated discussion, they decided to split up to find the Kanohi masks of power on their own rather than working together as a team. They got a first taste of Makuta’s own power when he sent a brief combination of hail, lightning, and an earth tremor against them to disrupt the meeting.

Each Toa battled their share of Rahi and the forces of nature that Makuta used against them to collect a few Kanohi masks. As the Toa collected Great Kanohi, the masks were teleported back to the Toa’s Suva shrines when they were not in use, and could be summoned back and forth for the Toa’s use at any time. If a Toa came across a Noble Kanohi, they returned it to their Turaga when they had the chance. As the Toa collected more and more Kanohi, they each gained more and more abilities from the Great and Noble Masks. After the Toa realized they all had limited success in finding the Kanohi masks alone, Onua called a meeting near his landing site. The Toa returned from all over the island to discuss their situation.

With this in mind, the Toa traveled to this location as a group. The Toa wasted much time over petty disagreements. When they arrived at their destination, the Toa who already possessed the Kanohi Kaukau – Onua, Kopaka, and Gali – went underwater to retrieve the mask while Tahu, Pohatu, and Lewa guarded the beach.

Both groups were successful, and met up with each other once again.

The Toa having each collected all six of their necessary Great Masks, they returned to the Koro. When they visited their Suva shrines, where their Great masks were kept, and placed their own mask on it, each of their six Great Kanohi formed into a single Gold Kanohi.

Armed with their new Gold Kanohi, which gave the Toa the powers of the six Great Kanohi they had collected, the Toa journeyed together to the Kini-Nui. It was there that they met the Chronicler’s Company, who agreed to defend the Kini-Nui from the Rahi while the Toa were facing Makuta, and then unlocked an underground passageway to Mangaia, Makuta’s underground lair, with the Makoki stones. The Toa traveled through this tunnel down to Makuta’s realm. When the Toa encountered the Manas – Makuta’s two most powerful Rahi guardians – on the way to Makuta, they could not find a way to defeat them until they merged their beings together to form two Toa Kaita: Akamai and Wairuha.

Faced with essentially fighting themselves, the Toa still managed to triumph by acknowledging that the darkness was a part of themselves, just as it was a part of all beings.

It was only when the Toa used their elemental powers together against Makuta that they were able to defeat him. The Toa started back up to the surface of Mata Nui victorious. The Toa, it seemed, had saved the Matoran at last.

It turned out that these new creatures were swarms of Tahnok, Pahrak, and Kohrak. The Toa were able to drive away the Bohrok swarms, but the Toa had just faced Mata Nui’s newest threat: the Bohrok swarms.

As the Toa stood around a single fallen Pahrak, Turaga Vakama told the Toa the legend of the Bohrok, which was yet another prophecy spawned by his visions. This legend stated that the Bohrok had slept a seemingly endless sleep for thousands of years. Whenever they awakened, they would rampage throughout Mata Nui and devastate the island. The weakness of any Bohrok, however, was its Krana – a purely organic creature within the Bohrok’s headplate that guided the Bohrok on its mission and gave it extra power.

As leader, Tahu ordered the other Toa to split off and return to the Koro to make sure their villages were safe and to start on their mission to gather the Krana.

After many struggles against the Bohrok in gathering Krana and defending the Koro, the Toa finally gathered the forty-eight Krana necessary for their mission. All six Toa later met on the foothills of the Mangai volcano. At Lewa’s suggestion, the Toa wasted no time in traveling with their Krana to the entrance of the underground Bohrok nests in the rocky wastes between Ko-Wahi and Le-Wahi. The Toa descended into the tunnel, trying their best to avoid exiting Bohrok and fighting past them when they couldn’t. Desparate to escape, Pohatu and Onua worked on shattering the stone slab while Kopaka tried to slow the lava flow. The five Toa escaped from the tunnel; and they met up with Tahu once again when he burst through the floor, having heated the air in the Tahnok nest until the pressure blew the nest apart.

The doorways revealed six entrances; each Toa went into their own passageway. The Toa discovered Exo-Toa armor in the new chambers, which gave them more power than ever before.

The Toa returned in their new Exo-Toa to the larger chamber, where they met the Bahrag – the twin queens of the Bohrok swarms. The Toa quickly surrounded the Bahrag and drove them into the center of the chamber. The Bahrag’s symbiosis allowed them to grow more powerful as they came closer together; and when the Toa attacked the Bahrag with the new weapons of the Exo-Toa, they had no effect. Despite the new power that the Exo-Toa gave the Toa, their battle with the Bahrag did not seem to be in their favor. Tahu finally reasoned that the only hope to win the fight was to get out of the Exo-Toa, which hindered the use of the Toa’s elemental and Kanohi powers; and so he ordered the Toa to shed their Exo-Toa armor. The Toa surrounded the Bahrag once again, this time combining their elemental powers in a single beam against the Bahrag. This created a barred cage of a type of indestructible solid protodermis. Since the Bahrag were imprisoned, their mental link was cut off from the Krana, and in turn cut off from the Bohrok. The Bohrok all over Mata Nui ceased their rampages at once. The Toa had saved Mata Nui once again.

Simultaneously, the Toa were drawn into tubes in the floor of the chamber filled with energized protodermis. As destiny would have it, the Toa were transformed by the substance into something more powerful than any other Toa had ever been, with greater elemental powers, stronger Kanohi masks, and shiny new armor. • Malum had a reason to try to kill Strakk in the arena.
    • Greg, on Vastus's paralyzing venom spear: "It's only an unfair advantage if he is allowed to use it in the arena, when his opponent has nothing to counter it. What weapons are allowed in a match is determined beforehand. So, for example, Vastus might be allowed to use the spear in a given match but not to trigger the venom."
    • In order to tame a Rock Steed a Bone Hunter must subdue it in single combat.
    • Greg, on the baterra's targets: "In general, Agori were not out fighting battles, and the baterra were focusing on armies on the move during the war. After the Shattering, some Agori did get victimized as the baterra were more likely to hit cities and settlements then."
    • The Great Beings were, essentially, scientist-kings, but they didn't want to be bothered with the day-to-day business of ruling. That is why they created the Element Lords, so they would be free to create and the ELs would handle the grunt work.

    • SPIRIT: "When exactly did the Skrall move south? In the new comic, Strakk mentions that they were at the tournament last year, but I thought they left after that tournament, especially since Tarix won it (which he couldn't have done if there were Skrall in attendance)."
Greg: "No, he doesn't. He says "just like they did last year," not "in last year's tournament." Think of it like this -- we have a tournament in January of 2008. You win. Binkmeister shows up in February and beats us both all year long. January of 2009 comes around, we have another tournament, and you can honestly say that Bink stomped us last year, since he did, from Feb. to December. So the answer is within the last year."

    • The Glatorian Legends characters (Ackar, Vastus, Gelu, Kiina) were also present at Atero to fight against the Skrall.

"What could be better than small pieces of metal flying undetected across a classroom until they make an annoying snapping noise at the far wall?"

Hey there, ! Today's entry is a very special entry. Right now, I am pleased to have a place to finally post the simple instructions of my one truly, incredibly ingenious invention: the Portable Staple Firing Mechanism, or PSFM for short. This is a staple-shooting device whose structure I came up with back in my late grade school days. You may have heard of the highly ineffective mechanical pencil staple shooters that work by shooting a staple out of the mechanism that holds pencil graphite. My invention is something entirely different. My PSFM is simply something that my creative mind conjured during boring classes in school. But its so cool, I just have to share it.

    RECOMMENDED AGES 13+

The materials needed to build your own PSFM are incredibly easy to obtain. It is very simple to put together, and in the end it is a very discreet staple-shooter. Oh, and you'll pretty much never run out of ammo. What could be better than small pieces of metal flying undetected across a classroom until they make an annoying snapping noise at the far wall? (However, every shooter of staples must be responsible in the use of his tool .)

    MATERIALS:

To make your own staple launcher, you must gather the materials shown above. You will need a stapler. A mini-stapler like the one shown above is highly recommended. The stapler must be able to fold out to form a straight angle (this is a common feature in all staplers). Mini-staplers are discreet enough for the job and are sold at most (if not all) office supply stores.
You will need staples. There are different kinds of staples with different properties, believe it or not. You will see which kinds you like best -- the kinds that are soft and that are not adhered together very tightly so they come out of the stapler with little force, or the inverse. Staples are sold at all office supply stores, of course.
You will need dental rubber bands. Not regular rubber bands, but the ones used in braces. In order to obtain these special rubber bands, you can simply ask someone who has braces for a spare bag (that's what I had to do), or use the ones you have yourself if you already have braces. There is a great variety among dental rubber bands, so I'll give you what's printed on the front of my bag of rubber bands, which seem to produce optimal performance in the PSFM launcher:
    AE-36-2 --- 5/16" --- 2 Oz.
    (BROWN) ---- 100 PRE PACK
    --appco
You will need any regular wooden pencil. Easy to obtain. Use one with softer wood, if possible. It will make construction easier. CONSTRUCTION:
Anyone who is reading this probably plays/has played with LEGO Bricks. That building experience will help you in this procedure. It's even better if you presently play with LEGO Bricks. I don't really play with LEGO Bricks at my age, naturally, but I can still get the job done.

If you play with LEGO Bricks, you're most likely used to pinching yourself accidently and developing a kind of caluss while working on a Lego project. Similar thing here, only with staples. Just be careful. I've never had a staple injury, but because the construction of the PSFM involves handling small, wiry metal objects, I feel that I should give a word of caution.

    Okay, the procedure:

Your objective in this step is to shove a staple into the far end of the pencil right next to the metal eraser holder. For the safety of your fingers, do not do this in mid-air but on a table. Hold the pencil in place while you use the stapler to push a staple about halfway into the wood of the pencil.

Darn! Sometimes this happens. Even if it does, you still have the holes in the pencil wood.

Just pop out one of these bad boys...

...push it in with your fingers (at least position it in there, then press it against something to move it in deeper -- it might mess it up again as shown above, though), and you should get this result:

Your job in step two is to stick a rubber band under the staple you just put in the pencil. Carefully yank one end of the staple out of the pencil like this.

Now you can put the rubber band in:

    IMAGE

Push the loose end of the staple back in:

This step completes the launching mechanism itself. Pull the rubber band down the length of the pencil as seen above so that it is fairly taut, determining where you will place the second staple in the pencil. Don't make the band insanely tight. Just use your judgement -- remember, this thing is gonna fire staples.

Use a procedure similar to steps one and two...

    IMAGE

    ...to get this result:

Notice how I somewhat bent the staples inwards so that the rubber band stays apart from the pencil surface. If the rubber band is touching the pencil, it's not gonna work.

    Finished product USE:
Squeeze some staples out of the stapler. You need to pinch the staples in such a way that one end is hooked while the other is folded in.

This allows you to hook them onto the rubber band, pull back, and launch!

    Don't forget to sharpen!

    It's just an innocent-looking pencil...

    COMMENTS:
I'm very proud of this invention. I love the little sound the rubber band makes when you launch off a staple, I love the way you can shoot a staple at an obscure part of the room to make a disturbing noise during class, and I love the way it just looks like an ordinary pencil. Use it responsibly. As LEGO puts it,

    That said,

*Hopes no one notices that "pencil" is spelled wrong in the first sig*

    UPDATE: New sig!

Figured it never hurts to ask -- I need to transfer a certain file for a computer game from my Windows XP to a vintage Mac OS computer. If you're a geeky computer game/tech kind of guy (or gal), you could really help me out. For any replies: thanks!

The Feed is back. Also, read the new comic here.

    GLATORIAN
    • There are occasionally vehicle matches between a Glatorian and an Agori, since skill in the vehicle is all that matters.
    • Greg: "Glatorian generally do not escort caravans on a regular basis. They do it if the caravan happens to be going the same place they are. If Vastus has a match in Tajun and the caravan is going from Tesara to Iconox, he goes to the match, not with the caravan, because fighting in the arena is his main job."
    • Greg, on the most skilled secondary Glatorian: "Probably Kiina or Gresh. Gelu is no longer a Glatorian and was okay when he was one, and Malum relied mainly on brute strength. Kiina has fought longer, but Gresh has more natural talent, so it evens out."
    • Greg: "Gelu probably could have been Prime Glatorian if he had applied himself, but he never much liked being a Glatorian so he didn't develop his skills the way he might have."
    • If Mata Nui's current body is damaged, he feels it. If he has a severe injury, the Ignika could regenerate it. If the body is damaged sufficiently, Mata Nui could be killed.
    • Greg thinks that Click would not feel blows when he acts as Mata Nui's shield, believing that he has no nervous system in that form.
    • All of the Glatorian we know of were associated with the same tribes during the Core War as they are now.
    • Greg: "Ackar is a veteran warrior who has seen a LOT of combat. He has fought long and hard for his village, but has reached a point where he's a little older and a little slower. But he keeps going because he feels he owes it to his village, even if they don't always appreciate him anymore."

    SPHERUS MAGNA
    • The Element Lord's power hungry ways were realized more after the EP surfaced. Prior to that, while the ELs did not always get along, they co-existed and they took care of their people. But the war they unleashed over the EP was incredibly destructive even before the planet shattered.
    • As referenced in the alternate reality visited in Brothers in Arms, there existed a southern mountain chain on Spherus Magna.
    • The Agori always organized themselves into element-based tribes.
    • The civilization on Spherus Magna was "very old."
    • All of the residents of Iconox originally lived up north before the Shattering.
    • Bara Magna, the endless ocean planet, and a third, unknown planet are the remnants of Spherus Magna.
    • The endless ocean planet is, in fact, named Aqua Magna, and it once existed as the Great Sea on Spherus Magna.
    • Greg, on the origin of Aqua Magna's organic birds: "Well, on our world, the albatross could fly for three years without landing ... and the SM birds are not birds from Earth. It's entirely possible they could breed in the air or in the water, incubate live young or lay aquatic eggs, and live on fish, therefore not having any reason to land. You don't get birds evolving without any land, but they came from a place where there was land, so that's not a problem."
    • The only living things on Aqua Magna are birds, fish and other sea creatures, and the inhabitants or natives of the Mata Nui robot.
    • The prototype Mata Nui robot was not designed with the same body cavities that support nanotech like the Matoran.

    SAHMAD AND TELLURIS
    • Sahmad's plague was a natural phenomenon afflicting that particular region; Sahmad and Telluris are simply surviors who did not catch the plague and die.
    • Sahmad captures Agori traders or anyone else traveling out in the desert.
    • Sahmad and Telluris do not know each other's whereabouts.
    • Sahmad does arena battles only with villages he has stolen Agori from, to give them a chance to "win them back." He also does not steal Rock Agori.
    • Greg: "Telluris is a little arrogent, sure of himself, and who wouldn't be with Skopio at your command? ... Telluris doesn't like anyone, including Sahmad."

    SKRALL
    • The Skrall have a good water supply, being close to the headwaters of the Skrall River, and hunt and forage for food.
    • Greg, on the Sisters of the Skrall: "They are, if anything, nastier than the males are, but they go about things in different ways and their goals are different. Tuma and the Skrall are pretty much "in your face" ... the women are subtle and more likely to manipulate into destroying yourself than attack your city by force of arms."
    • Branar is being illustrated for Papercutz Graphic Novel #8 and may be given a different secondary color to distinguish him in story from the warriors he rides with.
    • Greg is sure that Branar participated in the fall of Atero.

    MATORAN UNIVERSE
    • Toa were based on the look of Glatorian.
    • When Mata Nui was infected with the Makuta virus 1,300 years ago, he was aware of the attack but had lost the control to land somewhere safely due to the virus's effects. The Order of Mata Nui became aware of the Makuta's betrayal about the same time Mata Nui did, although they had never trusted them before, on the principle that power corrupts.
    • The inhabitants of the Red Star had no control over and were not responsible for the lightning which struck the Toa Inika. It is possible that some were aware when it happened.
    • The inhabitants of the Red Star are presumably made out of protodermis.
    • Greg, on Mata Nui's attitude toward Teridax: "No, I don't think he fears him. He fears for his people who are at Teridax's mercy, but he does not fear Teridax."
