So I just found out that a new Spider-Man Saturday-morning cartoon had started airing in March, called The Spectacular Spider-Man. I've been watching it online. It's actually really good so far. Makes me realize how the movies could have been even better if they had been able to keep more of Spidey's battle banter.

Also, the show has come up with an actual legitimate reason for the existence of supervillains, one that not only makes logical sense (if you ignore the fake science behind it), but is actually very devious. And no I won't tell you what it is. Watch the show. 'Tis pretty neat.

I did get Watchmen, three Terry Pratchett books, Iron Man, the Dark Knight and a box set of all Pixar movies up to Ratatouille (and I already had WALL-E from my birthday!) on DVD. AND, I got a Hiro Nakamura bobblehead. Pretty good haul.

Still got an English essay to finish, and two science paragraphs. Doing nothing has never seemed more appealing, despite (or perhaps because of) the fact that I've spent the last two weeks doing little but that.

I'm reading The Odyssey for English class, and man oh man I will never disrespect Hermes ever again. Those Disney guys had some serious guts making him a tiny blue guy with little round sunglasses in the (grossly inaccurate in just about every way) Disney movie Hercules. The wrath of the giant-killer Hermes shall be upon them, if it is not already.

That's right. At least half the times they mention Hermes, they add the title "giant-killer". "Hermes, the giant-killer" - "The giant-killer Hermes" - they never tell you exactly what giants he killed, so I must assume that it was, eventually, all of them.

Yeah, you heard me. You have Hermes, Greek god of messengers, to thank for the current giant-less state of the world. Whenever you go around the corner to drop off a letter in the mailbox, it's Hermes that made it possible for you to not be stepped on and/or eaten by a giant on the way.

You just don't want to befriend with this guy.

EDIT: Darn word filter! *shakes fist*

I just finished the anime now, gonna watch the movie sequels and then move on to Code Geass next. There doesn't seem to be a topic for this in COT that I can find, so I'll jot down my final thoughts on the finale here.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «I've got to say, this was one of the most deep and complex animes (and episodes) that I've ever seen. The entire last two episodes were basically animated psychological profiles of the main characters. And the ending was just the perfect conclusion for that. I can really see how the show was sort of a metaphor for depression and that the very end was really getting over it and learning to value yourself and keep flyingliving. I loved the "normal" alt-universe near the end, and I also really liked how they used drawings as a visual metaphor for how the way others see us influences our self.
I clapped along at the end.

End of Evangelion is supposed to be really sad, right? Anyone who's seen it think I should look at it, or should I not bother? Because I like this ending.

Ah, the "f-word". It's not a good word. Just like they do on television, BZP filters it.

    Now, here's the problem:

They censor the word with a bunch of number signs, like this.

    ######

Now, that's boring. The word filter needs a little more pizazz. Now, what got me thinking about this was when I realized that the "b-word" (which can mean an illegitimate child or be used as an insulting term, and is also rightly filtered) is censored as this instead of the number signs:

    friend

Go ahead, try it. Never fails. Type in that word and it comes out as "friend". Now, you can't flame at someone by calling them your bestest buddy, right? Crisis averted. It works, and it's more creative than a bunch of bland, faceless number signs. So, I now propose the new filter for the "f-word":

    BEFRIEND! =D

Befriend you! Befriend that! Yippie-ki-yay, motherbefriender! Oh, what fun it could be!

I hope the administrators of this fair website take this into deep consideration, but make sure not to take it too seriously. Remember, I'm not some usurper trying to overthrow the word filter - I just want to make censorship fun!

    Thank you for your time.

OK, sorry I wasn't here yesterday, especially since I've been getting more active in the RPG forum recently after a long lull in posting. I was over at a friend's house, played SSBB for the first time (have to get that game at some point), and came back pretty late. Plus I have a cold that is making the contents of my nose outweigh the rest of my body.

So, today is Election Day in the United States of America. I won't bring politics into this innocent little site of ours, but I live in the state of New York, so you can probably guess who I'm supporting.

And, to make up for absence, here's a quote from my favorite new Western cartoon of this year, Spectacular Spider-Man:

Green Goblin: "You know the old saying - if you can't join 'em, beat 'em!" *throws pumpkin-boomerang thingies at Spidey*
Spider-Man: *dodging* "Took the words right out my mouth. Is that a felony?"
Green Goblin: "I certainly hope so. This goblin wouldn't be caught dead committing a misdemeanor!"
Spider-Man: "Ooh, nice banter." *dodges bombs* "Aim still needs work."
Green Goblin: "Practice makes perfect!" *throws more bombs*
Spider-Man: *dodges again* "Keep telling yourself that!"

The fact that I couldn't decide which of those six lines was better is a testament to the show's awesomeness.

Has anyone ever thought about how different anime theme songs are from American animation's?

Compare and contrast theme songs for, oh, Neon Genesis Evangelion, TTGL, FMA, Elfen Lied...

    ...with this:

    Spider-Man!
    Spider-Man!
    Does whatever a spider can!
    Slinging webs
    Can't remember this line!
    Spider-Man!
    Spider-Man!
    Look oooooouuuuuut
    It's Spider-Man!

I won't spoil anything, but I just got the last Bionicle comic of 2008 minutes ago, and let me tell you, even without the deeper and more expanded writing in the books - the ending is awesome. Not exactly unpredictable, but it's still awe-inspiring to actually see it for myself.

Oh yeah, and the Destral Cycle looks cool.
