  1. Laughing Man
    [originally published 3/14/14, updated 6/25/14]

decided to update and republish this, since yesterday I picked up the band's newest album. still missing the Call of the Mastodon compilation of early tracks, but I'll get that eventually.

from the top to the bottom:

    - Remission
    - Leviathan (Ozzfest Edition, sans slipcase which the used copy I got sadly didn't include)
    - Blood Mountain
    - Crack the Skye
    - The Hunter (unfortunately the version with "Blasteroid" censored, which I was unaware of when I bought it)
    - Once More 'Round the Sun
  2. Laughing Man
    coming in 2015.

directed by Zack Snyder, written by David Goyer.

will take inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns.

going to be considered the sequel to Man of Steel.

this has the potential to be either really amazing or really disappointing.
  3. Laughing Man
swung by FYE, scored a couple things but not much overall

got Making Mirrors by Gotye for $7 and placed a special order for the 2-disc reissue of Spiritual Healing by Death since they were out of stock

    Machinae Supremacy!

an interesting band from Sweden, Machinae Supremacy employ the use of a Commodore 64 SID chip to fuse electronics with power metal, and top it off with anime and video game-inspired imagery and lyrics.

while not everything they've released is free, they do have a handful of albums available that you can download in either 192kbps MP3 or FLAC format - one full-length, Deus Ex Machinae, as well as three compilations of demos, promotional tracks, and re-recordings: Origin, Arcade, and Fury (unfortunately, when you download the latter three and throw them into whatever media player library you use, they're completely unorganized and jumbled up).

those who are curious and wish to check out a couple tracks, I recommending looking up the songs "Origin", "Winterstorm" (which is currently serving as the intro music for the Yogscast Top 5 videos), and the instrumental "Hybrid".

UPDATE: I've converted the albums from FLAC to 320kbps MP3 format, which is higher quality than the MP3s they currently offer to download, and I have also sorted and organized the albums with the proper information and good-quality embedded artwork. if anyone is interested in downloading these MP3s instead, PM me and we'll work out a way for me to get them to you.

UPDATE & BUMP 06/20/13: I've once again converted the albums, this time from FLAC to VBR MP3s encoded with LAME, providing for high quality sound as well as smaller filesize. as I used LAME (considered the best MP3 encoder available) rather than the generic, built-in encoder I had previously used for the FLAC-to-320 conversion, the sound quality is audibly better than before. I may find a place where I can host a .zip file of these albums and link it here for those interested.

I got their new album and completed my collection of their only good ones.

nope, I'm not missing any albums at all. third and fourth albums? what third and fourth albums?

    from top to bottom:

    - Burn My Eyes
    - The More Things Change...
    - Through the Ashes of Empires (US edition with bonus track "Seasons Wither")
    - The Blackening (2-disc special edition with two bonus cover tracks)
    - Unto the Locust
    - Bloodstone & Diamonds

no, but seriously, this collection is technically incomplete. you couldn't even pay me to buy The Burning Red or Supercharger.

..aaaaand that might just have been one of the best episodes of the entire series, old and new. we're off to an inconsistent start, to say the least.

now that the two-night premiere event is over, we're back to a weekly schedule for the next four weeks. shame it'll all be over so soon.
  7. Laughing Man
a fine example of one of those bands that I never really liked much but then one day they just sort of clicked and I became something of a fan

100 points to anybody who get gets the title reference

anyway so I guess I didn't have to sneak, but I was in and out of the hospital this evening

it's ok I'm ok everything's ok, I just had kind of a potentially brain-damagingly high fever that refused to go down

they pumped me full of meds and fluids and did every medical test known to man

so far as they can tell it's just some kind of virus that should go away within a few days with the proper medication

was absolutely gutted when I heard the news last night, still finding it hard to accept even now.

Stone Temple Pilots are one of my all-time favorite bands and at least half the reason why was Scott. talented as heck and when he had it together, he was truly one of the greatest frontmen in rock. it felt inevitable that it would end this way given his history, but it's still hitting me pretty hard.

I was just in the middle of finishing up my STP collection, too. I just got one of the last albums I needed on Monday. there were a couple others I was going to put off for a while longer, but maybe now I'll go ahead and pick those up in his honor.

haven't posted anything here for a while. figured this was worth posting at least.

a couple of weeks ago I got the 3-disc collector's edition of Interstellar. comes in a really nice case with an art book and an authentic IMAX film cell.

    case 1 - case 2 - case back

got my pre-order copy of The White Album in the mail yesterday (a day ahead of the actual release date), and it has easily dethroned Everything Will Be Alright in the End as my new third-favorite Weezer album. didn't disappoint at all and it feels like they've really recaptured the magic after a string of mediocre-to-awful albums throughout the 2000s.

as such, I figured it was time to update the ol' Weezer collection post.

    from top to bottom:

    - Weezer (blue album)
    - Pinkerton
    - Weezer (green album)
    - Maladroit
    - Make Believe
    - Weezer (red album, deluxe edition)
    - Raditude
    - Hurley (deluxe edition)
    - Death to False Metal
    - Everything Will Be Alright in the End
    - Weezer (white album)

also pictured below are my Weezer T-shirt and officially licensed Weezer Snuggie™:

sup dudes, dudettes, and wonderful in-betweens

that annoying thing known as life that some people may or may not have experience with is catching up with me and as a result I've found it necessary to cut some things out of it, BZP being one of them

there's no hard feelings or anything, it's just time for me to move on

I'll still probably lurk every once in a while and I may pop back in on special occasions (my 10th BZPversary coming up in a few months, for example) but for the forseeable future I won't be active

if you wanna keep in contact with me I've got a tumblr (scythey) and a twitter (scytheyyy) which I still regularly use. be warned that both contain NSFBZP language and content, however

it's been real BZP, I wish you all the best (those of you who aren't backstabbing sociopathic scumbags, anyway~)
  13. Laughing Man
    from top to bottom:

    - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (US edition with bonus disc)
    - Before the Dawn Heals Us
    - Saturdays = Youth
    - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
    - Junk

also owned digitally: the Oblivion original motion picture soundtrack. pretty dull soundtrack for a pretty dull movie, although the title track featuring Susanne Sundfør is still one of my favorite M83 songs.

I'm currently missing Digital Shades Vol. 1, which is a short instrumental ambient album and not really a full-blown studio album, as well as the self-titled debut which is just kind of okay and probably the least interesting thing they've ever done.

the new album Junk is easily the weakest M83 album yet from a songwriting standpoint, and it's getting extremely mixed reviews. while it's definitely a huge disappointment coming 5 years after the near-masterpiece Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, I personally enjoy it for what it is: a collection of schlocky, tongue-in-cheek pop songs that pay tribute to the cheesiest aspects of late-70s/early-80s music and culture.

..Adaline looks like a terrible film. sad to see Harrison Ford waste his talent like that.

this was just something I observed when I saw its poster while at the cinema to see a far less popular film that I'm sure nobody here has seen nor cares about, Avengers: Age of Ultron. great film. liked it better than the previous Avengers movie, although both certainly fall short of the first one.

interestingly, it would seem that Ultron has decided to take a different route in his plan to fight humanity, as he parked a (presumably stolen) S.H.I.E.L.D. truck in front of the cinema and started making rude hand gestures at people. Iron Man was there too, but I guess he didn't see a problem with this because he mostly just stood around in the lobby and did absolutely nothing.
